The Psychologist Episode 22 Recap
> The Psychologist Recap
Zhan Lu and her daughter, Coconut, arrived at the radio station to express their gratitude to He Dun and Qian Kaiyi. Inside, Qian Kaiyi and He Dun were discussing potential topics for their live show, with Qian Kaiyi reading about Ms. Wang's struggling animal shelter. He Dun confirmed that their colleague Dongzi had already verified the contact number for donations.
Qian Kaiyi then jokingly commented on the "mysterious creatures" visiting He Dun's house at night, implying himself, to which He Dun retorted, detailing his snoring, teeth-grinding, and drooling during sleep, a claim Qian Kaiyi laughingly deflected. Coconut presented He Dun with a gift she had chosen herself, which He Dun gladly accepted. Qian Kaiyi offered to get Coconut a drink, and as they walked away, Coconut loudly revealed that Qian Kaiyi liked He Dun, prompting him to quickly silence her.
He Dun and Zhan Lu chatted about Zhan Lu's recent job search. Zhan Lu shared that while she had submitted several resumes without immediate responses and even had two interview opportunities fall through, she maintained a positive outlook, understanding the challenges of finding work at her age. Just then, she received a call for an interview. When Coconut expressed her desire to go to the amusement park, Zhan Lu initially hesitated.
However, Qian Kaiyi insisted on taking Coconut, dismissing He Dun’s concerns about professional boundaries by saying it was his idea, and He Dun would simply be accompanying them. Zhan Lu, with her interview looming, entrusted Coconut to their care and left. At the amusement park, He Dun reminded Coconut to seek out a police officer if she encountered danger, gently correcting Qian Kaiyi's earlier jest about police. Coconut, in turn, urged He Dun and Qian Kaiyi not to argue.
As they approached the dolphin pool, the sight of the water triggered distressing memories for He Dun, causing her to visibly pale. Qian Kaiyi playfully teased her about being afraid of dolphins, but Coconut, sensing He Dun's distress, declared she no longer liked the area and steered them towards the Ferris wheel. Meanwhile, He Dun's mother was strolling in a park when she overheard neighbors praising He Dun's skills as a psychological counselor, likening her to a divine physician.
They also spoke highly of another therapist, Wen Liang, who had helped a man in his thirties, previously unemployed, not only recover and find a job but also bring home a wife. He Dun's mother explained to the neighbors that psychological counselors adhere to ethical guidelines preventing them from treating family members or close acquaintances, citing "dual relationships" and the inherent knowledge of their clients' backgrounds and privacy as reasons for this restriction.
Inside the Ferris wheel, Coconut tearfully confessed her sadness, feeling that while her father, mother, and grandmother all protected her younger brother, no one protected her. She admitted to both loving and resenting her brother, calling herself a "bad big sister." He Dun reassured Coconut that her mother's decision to seek therapy was also a form of protecting her. This revelation instantly brought a smile back to Coconut's face.
He Dun then playfully asked Qian Kaiyi who was the cutest, to which he promptly replied, "He Dun is the cutest," though he quickly added that Coconut was also very cute. Later that evening, He Dun and Qian Kaiyi took Coconut to a cake-making workshop. As the pastry chef directed parents to a resting area, Qian Kaiyi asked He Dun about her childhood and whether her parents took her to amusement parks.
He Dun recounted that her mother was too busy working and raising two children to afford such activities. She then asked Qian Kaiyi if his good nature was a result of being pampered by his parents. Qian Kaiyi shook his head, explaining that his parents had given him far more than amusement park visits. He deeply admired his father, a man of integrity and versatility who could fix anything and was always ready to help neighbors.
In times of difficulty, Qian Kaiyi often reflected on what his father would have done. Qian Kaiyi revealed that his father, a firefighter, died during a mission. His mother, heartbroken, fell ill and later passed away as well. He shared that he had always wanted to be a firefighter and even got admitted but lost the opportunity.
He found a similar sense of purpose and mission in hosting "Night Talk to Your Heart," realizing there are many ways to be a hero like his father. He then asked He Dun how she became a therapist. He Dun smiled and explained that her younger brother had once told her he wanted to invent a medicine to make everyone happy. Lacking in chemistry skills herself, she decided to pursue a profession that could help alleviate people's worries.
Over time, she discovered that the insights and growth she gained from her visitors often surpassed what she offered them. Coconut proudly brought over the finished cake. She then innocently asked He Dun and Qian Kaiyi if they were in love, secretly advising Qian Kaiyi to be more proactive.
Afterwards, Qian Kaiyi attempted to buy cotton candy for Coconut, only to be told by the vendor that it was not for sale but was given as a prize for participating in a "family portrait challenge." Seeing Coconut's hopeful gaze, He Dun agreed, and the three cheerfully posed for comical photos. While Coconut enjoyed a ride on a tour car, Qian Kaiyi approached He Dun, confessing something he hadn't told her before.
He admitted that initially, he had only sought her out for the show to create "topic appeal" and "a gimmick." However, he eventually realized that she was "more important than any gimmick." He Dun stood still, processing his words, her mind replaying all of Qian Kaiyi's recent actions. As she watched his back as he ran off, his figure seemed to merge with memories of his younger self from their school days.
Later that night, Qian Kaiyi drove He Dun home. Dongzi called Qian Kaiyi to inform him that the radio station's new psychological support channel had been named "Bridge of Hearts." He Dun woke up as they arrived at her house and insisted on going in alone, without Qian Kaiyi escorting her. Qian Kaiyi playfully suggested she adopt the same tough attitude with Ye Jiahui, to which He Dun laughed and told him to stop messing around before going inside.
As she reached her doorstep, she heard a sound in the bushes and, expecting Qian Kaiyi, called out his name. Instead, Mo Yu suddenly lunged out, screaming that she had "ruined everything" and violently grabbed her by the throat. Inside the house, Ye Jiahui heard the commotion but remained undisturbed, continuing with his work. Fortunately, Qian Kaiyi rushed back and kicked Mo Yu away. Unfazed, Mo Yu picked up a brick.
He Dun pushed Qian Kaiyi out of the way, taking the blow herself, which left her bleeding from a head wound. Mo Yu fled, but He Dun stopped Qian Kaiyi from pursuing him, urging him to get his own wound treated first. Qian Kaiyi dismissed his injury as a minor scrape, but He Dun insisted and retrieved a first-aid kit. As she treated him, she noticed a large, old burn scar on his back.
Qian Kaiyi explained it was an old injury from a house fire many years ago, the same fire where his firefighter father had died saving him. He shared that although the physical pain had faded, the emotional scars sometimes resurfaced. He expressed gratitude for the "family" he found on Wenchang Street, his radio colleagues, and He Dun, all of whom gave him a renewed sense of purpose. Qian Kaiyi then invited He Dun to visit Wenchang Street.
She accepted, though she stated she could go by herself, but Qian Kaiyi remained concerned for her safety. They pinky swore that she would be careful, with He Dun believing that Mo Yu was not inherently bad and that there must be some misunderstanding. Meanwhile, Mo Yu met with Ye Jiahui. Ye Jiahui demanded to know why Mo Yu hadn't followed his instructions.
Mo Yu explained that he had initially intended to expose He Dun but claimed she had severely wronged him. He further stated that after taking the medication provided by Ye Jiahui, he would lose awareness and become enraged whenever he perceived that his personal information had been shared. Ye Jiahui handed Mo Yu the last bottle of the medicine, instructing him not to seek him out again, despite Mo Yu's plea about their friendship.
The following morning, Ye Jiahui drove He Dun to Professor Ji's house. While they were picking vegetables, Professor Ji struggled with a malfunctioning automatic irrigation system, which had burst. Ye Jiahui, ever resourceful, offered to fix it, impressing Professor Ji with his handiness. Just then, a neighbor's chicken flew into the yard. Qian Kaiyi called He Dun, who had forgotten their plan to visit Wenchang Street.
She invited him to Professor Ji's house to help them catch the chickens, mentioning that Ye Jiahui was also there. Qian Kaiyi, annoyed, commented on Ye Jiahui's ubiquitous presence and seemingly endless skills. Simultaneously, He Dun's mother, acting on her neighbor's advice, located Wen Liang's psychology counseling studio.
