> The Psychologist Recap

He Dun was rushing to the radio station early in the morning to revise her script, with a counseling session scheduled for two in the afternoon. Lili observed her busy schedule and mentioned that she had seen Ye Jiahui heading to Auntie Zhao's house to perform acupuncture therapy. He Dun was surprised, as Ye Jiahui had not informed her.

At Auntie Zhao’s home, Ye Jiahui inquired about her leg, and she enthusiastically reported feeling much better after his last session, now able to move freely. Auntie Zhao expressed her disappointment that He Dun had not informed her of Ye Jiahui's visit. Ye Jiahui explained that he intentionally kept it from He Dun because she "dislikes owing a favor to others" and he wanted to prevent her from feeling a "mental burden" or obligation to reciprocate.

Auntie Zhao was touched by his thoughtfulness and encouraged him to boldly pursue He Dun, assuring him of her full support. As Ye Jiahui began the acupuncture treatment, Auntie Zhao praised him and spoke of He Dun's excellence as a psychological counselor, a "magical profession" where people share their life stories. Ye Jiahui subtly probed if He Dun had ever shared "particularly interesting cases."

Auntie Zhao replied that while He Dun used to share textbook cases during college, she now respects patient privacy, a stance Auntie Zhao completely understood. During their conversation about He Dun's career, Auntie Zhao began reminiscing about her son, Junjun, and consequently told Ye Jiahui that He Dun had a younger brother. Ye Jiahui, feigning surprise, then stated that He Dun had never mentioned him. This question triggered a traumatic flashback for Auntie Zhao, recalling Junjun drowning.

Overcome with emotion, she asked Ye Jiahui to remove the needles so she could use the bathroom. While Auntie Zhao was away, Ye Jiahui discreetly searched He Dun's room and found a photograph of He Dun and Junjun. Meanwhile, at the radio station, He Dun and Qian Kaiyi were finalizing a script when Lili arrived with lunch. Lili again mentioned Ye Jiahui performing acupuncture for Auntie Zhao. He Dun, unaware of this, immediately called her mother.

Auntie Zhao initially tried to shield Ye Jiahui, but eventually admitted she had called him because her leg was aching. He Dun, concerned, asked her mother to inform her in the future so she could take her to a TCM hospital, preferring not to bother Ye Jiahui repeatedly. Auntie Zhao reassured her that Ye Jiahui would not be troubled again.

Feeling a surge of competitive spirit after learning of Ye Jiahui's visit, Qian Kaiyi decided to go to Auntie Zhao's house as well. At Auntie Zhao’s, Ye Jiahui, sensing the delicate situation, feigned remorse and apologized for mentioning Junjun. He then shared a fabricated, heartbreaking story about his mother abandoning him at age seven, making Mother’s Day his most dreaded holiday. His emotional tale moved Auntie Zhao, who almost revealed more about Junjun before Qian Kaiyi's timely arrival.

Qian Kaiyi presented Auntie Zhao with various health tonics: ginseng, Chinese caterpillar fungus, and bird's nest. However, Ye Jiahui, leveraging his medical knowledge, systematically discredited each gift as unsuitable for Auntie Zhao's specific health conditions, much to Qian Kaiyi's annoyance. The two engaged in a subtle but intense verbal sparring match, each attempting to impress Auntie Zhao and diminish the other. Later that afternoon, Ms. Zhang, Jing's mother, visited He Dun's office.

She reported that Jing was much improved and currently attending a concert, subtly suggesting that further sessions might not be necessary. After Ms. Zhang left, He Dun tried calling Jing three times, but her calls went unanswered, which raised an alarm for He Dun. He Dun then revealed to Qian Kaiyi that Jing had sent her a suicide note.

She explained to Lili that personal safety is a "supreme principle" of counseling ethics and a "confidentiality exception," so she "cannot leave her unattended" and "must pay a visit" to Jing. He Dun then asked Qian Kaiyi to accompany her. Jing, in a state of distress at home, was seen smashing a violin. She confronted her mother, Zhang Lizi, accusing her of being trapped and yearning for freedom.

Jing confessed her hatred for her mother, blaming her for forcing her to live a life she didn't want and for projecting her father's "mistake" onto her. She declared she no longer wished to be "trapped in a besieged city." In the car, He Dun suggested Qian Kaiyi record a special message for Jing on his radio show.

Qian Kaiyi then broadcast a story about Def Leppard's drummer, who continued playing after losing an arm in an accident, adapting his drum setup to his needs. He used this powerful story to inspire listeners facing despair, encouraging them to find "new fighting spirit" and embrace life, asserting that "all the pains and sufferings will be set aflame with hope because of love and care." Jing heard the broadcast, and a heartfelt conversation followed with her mother.

Jing expressed her deep love for her mother, but pleaded with her to stop fearing mistakes and trying to control her. She emphasized that "growing up or being independent" didn't mean abandoning her. She wanted them both to start new lives. Her mother, tearfully, embraced her, affirming her desire for Jing's happiness and success. Shortly after, Jing sent a voice message to He Dun, thanking both her and Qian Kaiyi's "late night radio" for helping her "find my courage again."

Seeing He Dun, Qian Kaiyi was reminded of his father's words from childhood: facing difficulties requires "strength" and "experience," but the "most important" element is "bravery." His father had taught him that bravery is a quality that can "generate a force to dominate you" and "pump out a stream of hot blood," enabling one to "press ahead without hesitation." He had impressed upon young Qian Kaiyi the importance of learning to be brave if he ever wished to protect someone.

Qian Kaiyi then visited his empty childhood home, reminiscing about his firefighter father and his shining heroism. He pondered if he, too, had "saved others today," and vowed never to be "left behind" by his father's legacy. Later, He Dun received a phone call from Professor Ji inviting her to dinner. Professor Ji suggested He Dun join the Psychological Society, envisioning her as a future leader given her "level-headed" and "resolute" nature, and her lack of self-interest.

He Dun politely declined, stating that such a pursuit was "not what I want to pursue." She found contentment in her current counseling office, where she could help "one or two people every day," considering herself "just a small potato" in the industry. Professor Ji accepted her decision and entrusted He Dun with an archived file belonging to her senior fellow student, Li Yun.

Professor Ji explained that Li Yun had recently requested the file back, but she had kept its whereabouts secret. She asked He Dun to "keep it safe." He Dun was puzzled why Professor Ji wouldn't simply return it to Li Yun herself.

Professor Ji, with a knowing glance, remarked that after years of teaching, she could discern "big things" her students were hiding just by "looking into your eyes," and advised He Dun not to guess but to hold onto the file, as "there will be an arrangement when the time comes." The file was marked "F's client file."
