Sunshine by My Side Episode 3 Recap
> Sunshine by My Side Recap
Pan Rou explained to Sheng Yang why she had not shown up for their meeting the previous night, stating she was unwilling to be forced by her parents into an awkward chat with a stranger. Sheng Yang, however, was not convinced, questioning her commitment to their upcoming six months of collaboration. He probed why she was so sure she would leave after six months, noting his own determination when he started as an intern.
Sheng Yang suggested Pan Rou was merely there to earn credits through connections, a suspicion supported by the fact that the company had no recent intern recruitment plan. He warned her about the demanding nature of their industry and advised her to quit if she lacked genuine passion.
Pan Rou then asked Sheng Yang if he ever regretted choosing his career path, to which he responded that his major was dictated by his college entrance exam scores, leaving him feeling directionless. She admitted that her mother had arranged the internship and that she hadn't studied design, but she wanted to try and promised to work hard and not be a burden. Sheng Yang offered words of encouragement.
Afterward, Pan Rou offered to treat Sheng Yang to dinner that night, but he politely declined. Pan Rou countered that it was a team rule for newcomers to have a welcoming dinner, as dictated by their team leader. Later, Sheng Yang’s phone rang. Song Chen, curious, urged him to answer, suggesting it might be a client, though Sheng Yang believed clients would use WeChat.
It was Jian Bing, calling to thank him for the previous night and to apologize for her intoxicated state. She informed him she had added him on WeChat to transfer money. Sheng Yang tried to refuse, but Song Chen, close by, insisted he accept the friend request. Jian Bing transferred 5,000 yuan, explaining it covered dinner, the hotel, and a deposit, with the rest as gratitude for his "courageous behavior."
Sheng Yang denied any heroic acts, but Jian Bing insisted that keeping her safe all night counted. As Sheng Yang persisted in refusing the money, Song Chen, listening in, interjected. He lied to Jian Bing, claiming Sheng Yang had sustained a large, bleeding gash on his head that morning, was dizzy, and possibly concussed. Song Chen then dramatically suggested Jian Bing take Sheng Yang to the hospital.
Jian Bing, expressing concern, sent Sheng Yang her home address and invited him to come there so she could take him to the hospital herself. Song Chen playfully commented on Jian Bing’s "domineering" voice, noting that he and Sheng Yang seemed to have similar taste in women. At home, Jian Bing was packing her things to move out and live separately from Xue Yiming. He confronted her, accusing her of having a one-night stand for revenge.
He tried to stop her from leaving, reminding her he hadn't agreed to a divorce, but Jian Bing asserted that if he didn't agree, they would proceed with a lawsuit. When he suggested she was seeing someone else, Jian Bing confirmed it, playfully hinting it was "the one from last night" before adding, "There are so many of them," to provoke him.
She argued that he was the one destroying their family, not an outsider, and criticized his "degraded" mindset as a director. When Xue Yiming challenged what could have happened with her and a man alone for a night, Jian Bing calmly revealed she had given Sheng Yang their home address and he was coming, daring Xue Yiming to wait for him. Feeling trapped and unwilling to remain his "accessory," Jian Bing rejected Xue Yiming's plea to talk things over.
When he advised her to be a "bigger person" and a "good wife and mother," Jian Bing retorted that if a word only described women, it was a "guilt trip," explaining she wasn't the type of woman who found happiness solely by dedicating herself to family life. Regarding their company, Jian Bing stated that if Xue Yiming respected her and stayed out of her projects, they could continue as partners.
She referred to their company, Jian Yi, as their child, since they had none of their own, emphasizing it was their collective creation. Xue Yiming then confessed his deep love for her, admitting he had "crossed the line" and felt directionless, like a "walking dead" from his repetitive work. Jian Bing acknowledged his struggles but stated she couldn't solve his problems. She decided to go to the beach, asking him for time to make his own decision.
Sheng Yang arrived at Jian Bing's address, finding her leaving with a large box of items she intended to throw away. She briefly offered to take him to the hospital, but Sheng Yang assured her he was fine and his friend had been joking. Sheng Yang then offered to dispose of the box for her and carried it away. Clearly preoccupied, Jian Bing quickly dismissed him, telling him to be careful on his way back.
Later, Jian Bing was drinking heavily at a bar when Liang Shanshan arrived. Jian Bing informed her that she and Xue Yiming had broken up. Concerned, Liang Shanshan asked how they would divide their assets. Jian Bing explained they would split everything equally. Liang Shanshan called her generous, noting Xue Yiming was the "guilty party" in their marriage, but Jian Bing philosophically mused on the difficulty of assigning blame.
Liang Shanshan then expressed deep concern for their company, stating she would hate to see it fall apart due to their divorce, as it represented years of their collective effort. Jian Bing reassured her that the company would not be affected. As Jian Bing celebrated her "new life," Liang Shanshan acknowledged the pain of a divorce after more than a decade but promised to support her.
As Jian Bing became increasingly intoxicated, Liang Shanshan went to the restroom, only to return and find Jian Bing had disappeared. Concurrently, at a team dinner welcoming Pan Rou, team leader Wang Youde formally welcomed her. Pan Rou, curious, asked about Sheng Yang's work style. Wang Youde described Sheng Yang as capable and quick-witted, but "immature" and "opinionated," with a "not-so-great personality."
He lectured Pan Rou on the importance of being "observant" and "adaptable" in the workplace, citing Song Chen as a good example. Pan Rou argued that work capacity should be the priority, but Wang Youde insisted on his point. When Sheng Yang arrived late, Wang Youde chastised him for being absent that afternoon and demanded he drink three glasses as punishment. Pan Rou tried to intervene and offered to drink for him, but Wang Youde dismissed her.
As Wang Youde continued to pressure him, Sheng Yang received a message from Jian Bing asking for her trophy. Sheng Yang promptly finished his drinks, announced a "family emergency," and abruptly left, much to Wang Youde's fury. To placate him, the team suggested going for karaoke, where Wang Youde asked Pan Rou to sing "The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau." Meanwhile, Liang Shanshan, unable to find Jian Bing, called Xue Yiming for help.
He confessed he was planning a business trip to avoid the divorce conversation. Scolded by Liang Shanshan for his infidelity, Xue Yiming defended himself, claiming that long-term relationships are difficult and that socializing and facing temptations were normal for a man. He insisted he would never divorce Jian Bing because she was the closest person to him besides his parents. Outside the bar, in the heavy rain, Sheng Yang found a heavily intoxicated Jian Bing.
He had brought her golden trophy, explaining that he hadn't thrown it away as she'd requested because his own mother often threw things after arguments with his father, only to ask him to retrieve them later. In the taxi, a very drunk Jian Bing repeatedly questioned who Sheng Yang was and why he always appeared when she was intoxicated. Sheng Yang then asked if she remembered a public service advertisement about sanitation workers she had filmed ten years ago.
He showed her the trophy, which his family humorously used as a bottle opener, and a video of the ad on his phone. He recounted meeting her at a bus stop a decade prior and confessed that he chose his current profession because of her. He shared how he used to be ashamed of his father, who was a sanitation worker, but watching Jian Bing's advertisement made him understand the true value and greatness of the profession. Jian Bing, however, was too drunk to fully comprehend his heartfelt confession.
