During a lab experiment, Gu Weiyi was caught using his phone by Zhou Lei, who immediately reported him to Prof. Jiang. Gu Weiyi casually informed Zhou Lei that the CET4 and CET6 results were out, prompting Zhou Lei to quickly check his score. Upon seeing his excellent result of 639, Zhou Lei proudly flaunted it to Gu Weiyi.
However, Gu Weiyi then showed his own score of 671, which was even higher, leaving Zhou Lei speechless and deflated, much to Prof. Jiang's amusement. Later, Fu Pei received a call from his roommate, who was trying to get Meng Lu's phone number. Fu Pei responded gloomily, saying that Situ Mo would likely never answer his calls again. Meanwhile, Situ Mo was at Ori Advertising, her dream company, accompanying her company's Director Li.
While working, she received an unexpected call from her mother, who was already on her way to Situ Mo's workplace. Her mother announced her intention to invite Gu Weiyi to dinner that evening, a suggestion Situ Mo emphatically rejected, warning her mother she would be angry if she did. That evening, after Situ Mo and her mother had dinner together, they went to Gu Weiyi’s apartment. Situ Mo’s mother immediately started asking Gu Weiyi if he had a girlfriend.
She fondly reminisced about holding him as a baby, even recalling he had once peed on her. Gu Weiyi politely answered all her questions. Situ Mo’s mother, expressing concern over his thin frame and demanding studies, offered to cook him some brain-boosting black sesame and walnuts from her hometown. Situ Mo subtly shook her head at Gu Weiyi, signaling him to decline, but when he tried to politely refuse, Situ Mo's mother misunderstood, thinking he found her meddlesome.
To avoid upsetting her, Gu Weiyi reluctantly agreed. At a street stall, Fu Pei was drowning his sorrows in alcohol when he encountered Wang Shan, who was working part-time and being hassled by difficult customers. Fu Pei intervened, helping her resolve the situation. Noticing he was drinking alone, she asked why. Fu Pei lied, claiming he had failed his CET4 exam and was feeling down.
Wang Shan, who knew Situ Mo and realized Fu Pei was one of her friends, offered to tutor him in English as a way to repay his kindness, and Fu Pei agreed. Back at Gu Weiyi's place, while Situ Mo's mother was preparing the black sesame paste, Gu Weiyi ingeniously used the door to crack walnuts. Situ Mo found this entertaining and joined in, turning it into a playful competition.
Situ Mo’s mother observed them, a satisfied smile on her face, feeling they were well-suited for each other. After enjoying the homemade walnut and black sesame paste, Situ Mo’s mother declared she was tired and would rest. Situ Mo suggested they get a hotel room, but her mother dismissed it as wasteful, pointing out there was plenty of space. She then asked Gu Weiyi if he minded them staying over, and he assured her he didn't.
The next morning, Gu Weiyi was already awake when he heard Situ Mo and her mother bickering loudly from the next room. Situ Mo’s mother was trying to wake her up for breakfast, while Situ Mo adamantly refused to get out of bed, insisting her alarm hadn't gone off yet. Their playful yet loud argument made Gu Weiyi smile to himself.
At breakfast, Situ Mo's mother continued her matchmaking efforts, teasing Situ Mo about her "cranky" personality and discussing various breakfast options in an overly elaborate way, all while Gu Weiyi listened with an amused grin. Later, in the lab, Xie Yu Yin asked Gu Weiyi for a pen. As he opened his pen case, he discovered a bag of walnuts, evidently placed there by Situ Mo, which brought a smile to his face.
He shared the walnuts with Xie Yu Yin and Zhou Lei. While the three of them were cracking walnuts, Prof. Jiang walked in. Seeing them distracted from their work and eating in the lab, he became furious, sternly reprimanding them for their unprofessional conduct and lack of focus, ordering them to redo the entire experiment. Meanwhile, Situ Mo saw a recruitment advertisement for Ori Advertising, reigniting her aspirations for her dream company.
Later, Fu Pei was supposed to be studying with Wang Shan, but he was lazy and easily distracted. Wang Shan motivated him by promising to take him to see Situ Mo if he diligently memorized 40 English words. Fu Pei, with newfound motivation, agreed. Upon returning home, Situ Mo sprawled lazily on the sofa. Her mother immediately criticized her posture, warning that Gu Weiyi might see her and be turned off.
Situ Mo defiantly said she didn't care if "he" saw, but when Gu Weiyi walked through the door moments later, she quickly sat up straight. Situ Mo’s mother then enlisted them both to help prepare dinner. Gu Weiyi, true to his meticulous nature, used a ruler to precisely measure the carrots before cutting them into one-centimeter cubes.
Situ Mo openly mocked him, but her mother quickly interjected, scolding Situ Mo for disrespecting a "pillar of the nation" and praising Gu Weiyi’s scientific approach to cooking. After dinner, as Gu Weiyi studied and Situ Mo worked, her mother happily fed them both, but then expressed concern that they spent too much time indoors.
To get them out of the house, Situ Mo's mother took them to experience "the healthy and happy living of the elders," which turned out to be a mahjong game in the community area. Gu Weiyi, being a novice, initially watched the others win.
However, his "studybug" instincts kicked in, and after just a few rounds, he quickly grasped the rules and began winning consistently, much to the exasperation of the other players, and Situ Mo's delighted encouragement as she demanded the winnings. Everyone at the table praised Gu Weiyi's intelligence, and Situ Mo's mother beamed with pride, as if boasting about her son-in-law. Gu Weiyi, in turn, gave all his winnings to Situ Mo. Back at the apartment, Gu Weiyi thoughtfully placed slippers for Situ Mo at her feet. Situ Mo's mother watched them, observing their natural chemistry and tacit understanding with great satisfaction.
