Ordinary Greatness Episode 18 Recap
> Ordinary Greatness Recap
Chen Jiajia desperately pulled away from Chen Xincheng, refusing his interference. She listed his many neglects due to his busy work, causing Chen Xincheng deep self-reproach. He apologized profusely and offered to send her to Beijing to study art, even proclaiming he would "sell his kidneys and liver" to support her. However, Jia dismissed his offers, insisting on returning to the nightclub to support herself. Enraged, Chen Xincheng picked up a roadside trash can, threatening to smash the nightclub.
Jia, heartbroken, cried that she had no home and no other choice before running off, leaving Chen Xincheng in anguish. Chief Wang Shouyi was unable to reach Chen Xincheng and, concerned, asked Li Dawei for information. Li Dawei also felt Chen Xincheng had been behaving unusually. Wang Shouyi surmised the issue involved Chen Xincheng's ex-wife and daughter. Li Dawei offered to look for Chen Xincheng and first went to Aunt Shang's home, Chen Xincheng's ex-wife.
Aunt Shang informed him that Chen Xincheng had gone to find Jia, but Jia was not home either. Aunt Shang was reluctant to talk further, hurrying Li Dawei away. After numerous attempts, Li Dawei finally reached Chen Xincheng by phone. He immediately drove to a small restaurant on Bangpeng Street, where he found Chen Xincheng deeply inebriated and unconscious. With great effort, Li Dawei brought Chen Xincheng back to their shared apartment.
Zhao Jiwei and Yang Shu, witnessing the scene, learned of Chen Xincheng's troubles and expressed their sympathy as Li Dawei carefully gave his master water and settled him into bed. Later, Aunt Shang called Chen Xincheng's phone, which Li Dawei answered. Aunt Shang was frantic, stating Jia had returned to the nightclub and asking if Chen Xincheng would "do something or not." Learning Jia was again working there, Li Dawei immediately left to find her.
At the nightclub, he saw the boss lady pressuring Jia to drink with a guest. Li Dawei pretended to be a customer and booked Jia, then used the opportunity to urge her not to descend into self-destruction or spite her father. Jia defiantly claimed Chen Xincheng couldn't protect her, leaving her to rely on herself.
After much persuasion, Jia feigned agreement to go home with him but then hailed a taxi and sped away as soon as they exited the club. The next day, Li Dawei brought Zhao Jiwei and Sun Qiancheng to the nightclub. He tasked them with patrolling the entrance, while he confronted Jia, trying to prevent her from entering for work. Jia resisted fiercely, and other club girls reported the commotion to the boss lady.
When the boss lady came out to confront Li Dawei, he identified himself as a police officer and falsely claimed Jia was his sister. Not wanting trouble, the boss lady paid Jia 200 yuan for her day's work and fired her on the spot. Jia's pleas were in vain, and Li Dawei seized the opportunity to take her back to the shared apartment.
Meanwhile, Xia Jie received a call from her mother, who was enjoying a trip in Lijiang and Xishuangbanna and planning to extend her stay. Xia Jie transferred 5,000 yuan to her mother's account, urging her to spend it freely and offering to cover an extra month's rent for her lodging. Back at the apartment, Li Dawei chastised Jia. Xia Jie, hearing the commotion, came out and recognized Jia as a childhood friend. She took Jia to her room to talk.
Xia Jie then called Li Dawei, who was at the supermarket buying snacks, asking him to also purchase sketch pencils (3H, HB, 2B, 4B) and sketch paper for Jia. Jia drew a portrait for Xia Jie, and when Li Dawei requested one, Jia mischievously depicted him as a dog. Just then, Jia's mother, Aunt Shang, and her stepfather, Mr. Yu, arrived to take Jia home.
Li Dawei and Xia Jie reassured Aunt Shang that they would take good care of Jia, and after some hesitation, Jia's mother agreed to leave her, asking Jia to listen to her "brother and sister" and not cause trouble. Later that night, Jia was jolted awake by a nightmare, crying out, "Don't touch me!" Xia Jie, comforting her, was horrified when Jia tearfully confessed to being sexually harassed by her stepfather and presented video evidence she had recorded.
Xia Jie immediately woke Li Dawei. After watching the video, Li Dawei was furious and threatened to "kill that brute" as he stormed out to confront Mr. Yu. Xia Jie desperately restrained him, reminding him of his promise to be calm and the importance of not escalating the situation, as Jia wanted the matter kept private. Despite Xia Jie's pleas, Li Dawei left before dawn. Zhao Jiwei, concerned, woke Xia Jie and Yang Shu.
Yang Shu and Zhao Jiwei then rushed out to pursue Li Dawei, while Xia Jie remained at home to watch over Jia. Li Dawei found Mr. Yu during his morning run at Riverside Park and violently attacked him. Yang Shu and Zhao Jiwei quickly arrived to pull Li Dawei off, leading to a scuffle. Back at the apartment, Xia Jie tried to convince Jia to tell her mother, but Jia, afraid and pessimistic about her mother's reaction, refused.
