A video of Li Dawei pushing and shoving his father on the street quickly spread online, becoming the city's top trending topic overnight. Wang Shouyi was already furious and sent someone to bring Li Dawei back. Li Dawei’s superior, Chen Xincheng, confronted him furiously. Li Dawei insisted he could handle the "personal matter" himself, but Chen Xincheng argued that wearing a police uniform made it official business.

He lectured Li Dawei on responsibility, stating that as his master and like a father, he shouldn't be kept in the dark. When Li Dawei refused to explain, simply saying he wouldn't say anything if Chen Xincheng spoke that way, Chen Xincheng called him a "bastard" and declared he couldn't mentor him anymore. Chief Wang Shouyi then called Li Dawei into his office, demanding to know the identity of the man and the details of the incident.

Wang Shouyi pointed out the public outrage and the attention from the district bureau, emphasizing that despite Li Dawei's claim of it being a private matter, his actions while in uniform and on duty constituted a disciplinary violation. He listed the possible disciplinary actions, from a warning to dismissal, to pressure Li Dawei. When Li Dawei remained stubborn, Wang Shouyi ordered him to reflect and write a 3,000-word self-examination.

Wang Shouyi then instructed Ye Wei to report to the district bureau that the incident was Li Dawei’s private matter, that the station was investigating, and that Li Dawei had already received severe criticism and was preparing a profound self-examination. Meanwhile, Zhao Jiwei brought red-braised spareribs and steamed buns for Li Dawei, who, feeling wronged, refused to eat.

Zhao Jiwei shared stories of his humble past, dreaming of eating meat regularly, to encourage Li Dawei to eat, but Li Dawei insisted he wasn't hungry. Separately, Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu responded to a call from Ms. Ma, whose husband had left home after a heated argument. Ms. Ma, unable to leave her child, asked the officers to check their suburban villa, specifically requesting that they only confirm her husband's car was present.

She stressed not to call or knock, explaining her husband suffered from severe insomnia and should not be disturbed. Upon arriving at the unlit villa, Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu located an Audi A6 with the reported license plate, Ping E58080, in the yard. Yang Shu immediately called Ms. Ma, who reiterated her instructions not to disturb her husband.

Yang Shu then received a series of urgent messages from Xia Jie, informing him that Li Dawei was in serious trouble and might even face resignation if he didn't reveal the identity of the man he pushed. Concerned, Yang Shu asked Cao Jianjun to drive them back to the station so he could investigate. Back at the station, Zhao Jiwei, seeing Li Dawei’s inability to write, offered to help with the 3,000-word self-examination.

He boasted about his experience writing official documents from his civil servant exam preparation. Zhao Jiwei dictated a highly eloquent and "soul-touching" self-examination, which Li Dawei wrote. Ye Wei later presented the completed self-examination to Wang Shouyi, remarking on its depth. Meanwhile, Yang Shu, using his police PDA and the intranet, confirmed that the man Li Dawei had shoved was his father, Li Yisheng. Xia Jie was surprised but couldn't fathom the reason for such a fierce altercation.

Upon learning this, Chen Xincheng immediately took Yang Shu and Xia Jie to report to Wang Shouyi. In Wang Shouyi's office, Chen Xincheng, now knowing the truth, passionately defended Li Dawei, urging Wang Shouyi to release him. Wang Shouyi, however, reiterated the gravity of the situation, mentioning calls from the bureau's inspector and even the Director, who suggested Li Dawei might have to resign if the matter wasn't handled properly.

Wang Shouyi insisted on a full investigation into the "whys and wherefores" to maintain the police's image. Chen Xincheng retorted that despite his initial reluctance to take on Li Dawei as a "not an important person" and finding him annoying, he believed Li Dawei was a good kid at heart and must have a reason for his actions. Their argument escalated until Ye Wei intervened, asking Yang Shu and Xia Jie to lead Chen Xincheng away.

Ye Wei then tried to reason with Wang Shouyi, who, despite wanting to help, was frustrated by Li Dawei’s refusal to explain himself. While Li Dawei was still reflecting, Zhao Jiwei revealed that he had solved the case of the stolen disposable diapers; it was a five-or-six-year-old boy who took them for his five-or-six-month-old sister, whose parents were migrant workers too busy to care for them properly.

Li Dawei felt a mix of emotions upon hearing this, lamenting the parents who couldn't properly care for their children but still chose to have them. Xia Jie returned home late to find her mother in tears, worried because Xia Jie hadn't answered her calls. Her mother revealed she had also called Cheng Hao and Wang Shouyi out of concern. Xia Jie grew agitated, expressing that she disliked the special treatment and felt like a burden to the station.

Her mother, still traumatized by her husband's sacrifice, declared she wouldn't go to her planned recuperation in Qingdao, opting to stay by Xia Jie's side, despite Xia Jie having already booked the flight and accommodation. Meanwhile, Li Dawei arrived home to find his father, Li Yisheng, had secretly returned. Li Yisheng swore he wanted to live a good life with Li Dawei’s mother, Xu Cuiping.

Li Dawei, however, was skeptical, reminding his father of his pattern of returning only to ask for money and then disappearing. He told Li Yisheng that Xu Cuiping had filed for divorce and he should wait for the court's judgment. When Xu Cuiping returned from grocery shopping, she surprisingly defended Li Yisheng, stating that she understood he was like an overgrown child and that they would "live together" now.

Li Dawei tried to persuade her, offering to cancel his rental and live at home with her, to prevent her from being deceived again. However, Xu Cuiping firmly rejected his interference, insisting on her decision to reconcile with Li Yisheng. Enraged by his mother's stubbornness and his father's empty promises, and feeling protective of his mother who had worked tirelessly to pay off Li Yisheng's debts, Li Dawei stormed out of the house.

That night, Li Dawei moved into his rental apartment. Xia Jie soon arrived with her luggage, revealing she intended to move in with him. She told him that Chen Xincheng and Wang Shouyi had a heated argument over his case, and that everyone at the station was trying to protect him. Xia Jie urged Li Dawei to "grow up" and explain the full story to Wang Shouyi, warning that otherwise, even Wang Shouyi wouldn't be able to protect him.

Li Dawei, still reeling from the events at home, remained reticent about his private life, reiterating he wanted to live alone. Elsewhere, Wang Shouyi was at the hospital for physical therapy, his old back pain flaring up from overwork. His doctor, a long-time friend, advised him to rest, but Wang Shouyi dismissed the idea, claiming he was too busy and worried about the new recruits.

The doctor offered to give him massages at home, a gesture Wang Shouyi politely declined, citing concerns about imposing on the doctor's family. As Cao Jianjun returned to the police station, a colleague informed him that the husband of Ms. Ma, the woman whose villa they visited last night, had committed suicide. Ms. Ma was at the station, causing a scene and blaming the police for not properly handling the situation, claiming it led to the tragic outcome. Yang Shu had already been called to address the matter.
