My Mowgli Boy Episode 39 Recap
> My Mowgli Boy Recap
Lu Ziyue and Tang Cheng directly told Lu Ziyue’s parents that they were not planning to get married. However, his parents, ignoring their wishes, enthusiastically consulted calendars, picking wedding dates and excitedly discussing how much money they would recoup from wedding gifts. Feeling overwhelmed, Tang Cheng received a message that Chu Shi had broken her leg.
She quickly used this as an excuse, telling Lu Ziyue’s parents that a friend had broken her leg and they needed to leave immediately, much to their dismay. Meanwhile, Ling Yu was at the hospital accompanying Gao Jie for a pre-pregnancy check-up. Gao Jie, feeling cold, had Ling Yu drape his jacket over her. She then expressed her desire to have children, asking if he would be angry. Ling Yu, uncharacteristically, agreed, making Gao Jie happy.
She excitedly discussed having two children and their future parenting roles, with her caring for them and him providing for the family, to which Ling Yu also agreed. Gao Jie then asked Ling Yu to touch her head, expressing a wish to return to their early days. Suddenly, Ling Yu spotted Chu Shi limping into the hospital.
Making an excuse to go to the washroom, he rushed away from Gao Jie, who was about to have her blood drawn, and picked her up, asking where the orthopedic department was. Gao Jie, emerging from her blood test, witnessed Ling Yu carrying Chu Shi and furiously confronted him, asking if he still respected her after discussing their future moments ago. Chu Shi, also uncomfortable, struggled, asking to be put down.
Ling Yu insisted on getting Chu Shi to the doctor first, dismissing Gao Jie’s complaints about her blood test by pointing out Chu Shi's fracture. Just as the argument intensified, Ling Xi and Mowgli arrived. Ling Xi pushed Ling Yu away from Chu Shi and, along with Mowgli, helped Chu Shi away. Ling Xi then confronted Ling Yu, who claimed she misunderstood his personal issues with Gao Jie.
Gao Jie told Ling Xi that Ling Yu was not as simple as she thought. Back in a meeting with his father at Wharf, Ling Yu tried to explain his actions to his father and colleagues about handling a contract. Ling Xi then walked in, slapped Ling Yu, and publicly accused him of misappropriating public funds, urging her father to investigate immediately.
Zheng Li called Ling Xi, expressing concern over the company’s tense atmosphere and questioning why she escalated a family quarrel. Ling Xi reassured him that her accusation was not groundless and the truth would soon be revealed. During an audit meeting, Ling Yu tried to defend himself, admitting a "misjudgment" in choosing a vendor but claiming he quickly recovered all funds, causing no loss to Wharf.
Zheng’s father attempted to smooth things over, reminding Ling’s father of Ling Yu's past achievements and suggesting no further action. However, Ling’s father remained firm, asking Ling Yu if he had anything else to say. He then revealed that Ling Yu had transferred ten million to Gao Jie’s account just two hours after the money was withdrawn from Wharf's accounts, questioning the source.
Ling Yu, indignant, questioned his father’s lack of trust, emphasizing his twenty years of effort for the family. His father sternly stated that at the company, it was "facts, not individuals," and a "superior-subordinate relationship," not a father-son one. Shortly after, a company-wide announcement declared Ling Yu’s termination from all positions and Zheng Li’s interim appointment as Marketing Director. Employees gossiped about Ling Yu’s fall from grace.
As Ling Yu collected his belongings, he saw Ling Xi and Donghai moving things into Ling Xi’s new studio. Donghai commented on Ling Yu's firing while with Ling Xi. Ling Yu glared at Ling Xi before walking away. At home, Chu Shi, frustrated by her leg injury, complained about her boredom. Mowgli, trying to cheer her up, playfully suggested various activities and even shared a "scientific" explanation for why laughter is good for pain. Chu Shi, however, was not amused.
Mowgli then recounted how Tang Cheng had kicked him out for beating her (Tang Cheng) too often in games, hurting her "adult self-esteem." She then noticed the awkward tension between Mowgli and Ling Xi, asking if they had quarreled, noting their unusual lack of calls or texts. Mowgli simply stated they didn't communicate that way. When Ling Xi returned, she immediately attended to Chu Shi. Ling Xi and Mowgli found themselves in an uncomfortable silence, avoiding eye contact and conversation.
Later, Ling Xi privately asked Mowgli not to mention Ling Yu's firing to Chu Shi to spare her further emotional distress, to which Mowgli coldly agreed. Ling Xi attempted to engage him in small talk about the sunset and her new studio, even inviting him to help her pick out a coffee machine, but Mowgli consistently rebuffed her, citing work and a business trip.
That night, Ling Yu aimlessly wandered the streets, finding himself in the plaza where he once danced with Chu Shi. Suddenly, loan sharks cornered him, demanding repayment. They taunted him, saying that since his father no longer believed him and he was fired from Wharf, he had no means to repay. Ling Yu fought back but was beaten and stripped of his watch and coat. Donghai found a dejected Ling Yu drinking alone.
Ling Yu, assuming he was sent by Ling Xi or Gao Jie, angrily told him to leave. Donghai, however, called him "Yu" and then "Ding Yu," revealing his original surname. Ling Yu was shocked. Donghai then confessed, "I'm your dad," but Ling Yu vehemently denied it, claiming his father died long ago.
Donghai showed Ling Yu an old home video of them together, trying to explain that he acted "not of his own free will" and intended for Ling Yu to have a better life. Ling Yu, however, accused him of abandoning them and forcing them to live under someone else's roof for twenty years. As they spoke, a hidden recording of Ling’s father telling Donghai to "take the blame" played, leaving Ling Yu stunned. Later, a bruised Ling Yu returned home.
Wen Yu urged him to apologize to Ling’s father and rectify his mistakes for a new start, but Ling Yu was distant. When Ling’s father arrived, Ling Yu confronted him, accusing him of never truly treating him as a son and implying his mother only had a place in the family by constantly ingratiating herself. Their conversation ended in an argument.
Meanwhile, Zheng Li had successfully deceived his mother with a fake medical report, convincing her he was infertile due to chromosomal defects. His mother, disheartened, considered seeking alternative doctors but eventually gave up when Zheng Li, on a phone call, expressed deep distress, suggesting her continued insistence on him having children was like "salting on his wound" and had made him suicidal.
At work, Chi Xu asked Zheng Li to temporarily look after his baby, as his wife was away and he was busy editing. Zheng Li, initially flustered, soon found himself happily playing with the baby, making it giggle. Bai Yiling observed this tender scene, feeling a pang of sadness over her inability to bear Zheng Li a child.
