Zheng Li asked Ling Xi if she had feelings for him. At first, Ling Xi was flustered, but when she realized he was serious, she sincerely confessed that she had loved him for twenty years. She admitted that her past pranks were just attempts to get his attention, and even her safe contained only gifts she had meant for him. Zheng Li was taken aback and found it hard to believe.

To prove her sincerity, Ling Xi leaned in to kiss him, but he instinctively pulled away. This subconscious gesture revealed everything to Ling Xi: Zheng Li did not reciprocate her feelings. Her expression flickered, but she quickly composed herself. To avoid further embarrassment, she burst into laughter, claiming her confession had also been a prank. Zheng Li breathed a sigh of relief, teasing her for being so devious.

Ling Xi’s eyes welled up with tears, clearly of sadness, but she forced a smile and attributed them to laughter. She then quickly excused herself, citing urgent work at her studio. As she turned away, her façade crumbled, and the twenty years of her unrequited love dissolved into a sorrowful end. Ling Xi walked through the streets, taking off her high heels and going barefoot, seemingly oblivious to the pain.

Staring at the night sky, she remembered a shared birthday with Zheng Li from their childhood. Though the memories were vivid, everything had changed, and there was no going back. Ling Xi felt immense sadness, having dedicated her entire youth to loving Zheng Li. She wondered if she would ever again find the strength to love someone so wholeheartedly. As Ling Xi wept silently, Mowgli appeared and gently led her back to her room.

He thoughtfully prepared a steak, though its taste was questionable. Ling Xi, however, seemed to have lost her sense of taste, devouring the steak and even a lemon, much to Tang Cheng and Mowgli's concern. She was unresponsive to their pleas to stop eating. After the meal, Ling Xi retreated blankly to her bedroom. Mowgli worried, but Tang Cheng advised him that Ling Xi needed quiet time and shouldn't be disturbed. Mowgli, still struggling with human emotions, found it perplexing.

He believed if one liked something, they should simply "grab it," as animals would, asserting that in the forest, one must be "hard" to avoid being eliminated. Tang Cheng explained that Ling Xi actually found satisfaction in the act of giving to Zheng Li, even without any return, finding comfort in caring for someone.

She then instructed Mowgli not to mention Zheng Li, boyfriends, love, disappointment, sadness, or liking around Ling Xi, warning him not to upset her fragile emotional state. Mowgli understood, comparing it to avoiding sensitive words in cartoons. The next day, Tang Cheng left for an important work matter. Ling Xi remained at home, looking lifeless. Mowgli stayed by her side, trying to cheer her up by reading news in a formal, "CCTV news" style.

Ling Xi received a phone call about an essential oil she had ordered for Zheng Li. She initially told them she would pick it up herself, but later called back to cancel the order, stating she no longer needed it. Feeling restless, she eventually left the house. Meanwhile, Bai Yiling discovered that Chi Xu had secretly sold their house and was avoiding her calls to repay her. She confronted him at his office.

Chi Xu shamelessly refused to pay, insulted her by calling her "tasteless" and "boring," and accused her of pursuing Zheng Li. Just then, Zheng Li walked in. He embraced Bai Yiling protectively and confronted Chi Xu, telling him that his personal issues reflected on his professional integrity. Zheng Li demanded that Chi Xu repay Bai Yiling within two days, or their business cooperation would be terminated. After leaving Chi Xu’s office, Zheng Li took Bai Yiling to his own office.

He presented her with a pair of high heels, explaining he had bought them because her shoes were damaged while helping him previously, and framed it as a reward for her contributions to a major case. Bai Yiling, touched by his kindness, gratefully accepted the gift, promising to treat him to dinner as a token of her appreciation. Later, Tang Cheng was at a business dinner, reluctantly apologizing to a major client, Mr. Ma, at Mr. Hou's insistence.

Mr. Ma had peculiar and disturbing preferences, describing with relish how he enjoyed roasting live, healthy ducks on a hot iron sheet for their superior taste. Tang Cheng's phone buzzed with a message from Mowgli: "Something is wrong with Ling Xi. Come to help me now." Disturbed by Mr. Ma's remarks and Mowgli's urgent message, Tang Cheng immediately excused herself, telling Mr. Ma she couldn't apologize as her best friend needed her.

Mowgli had tried to prevent Ling Xi from going to the office, fearing she would encounter Zheng Li and be hurt. He dramatically expressed his concerns, believing she would become sad, act impulsively, and "go to die," claiming many women behave that way. Ling Xi, frustrated, told him to stop controlling her and insisted she was just going to work, not "hell."

Tang Cheng arrived and, seeing Mowgli’s distress, decided it was better to let Ling Xi go to the office and vent her feelings rather than stay depressed at home. Ling Xi took the elevator, and almost unconsciously, pressed the button for the thirty-eighth floor, where Zheng Li’s company was located. As the elevator doors opened, she immediately saw Bai Yiling, and noticed the elegant high heels on her feet. Ling Xi's mind went blank, then filled with rage. She confronted Bai Yiling, demanding to know if Zheng Li had given her those shoes and why she had accepted them, especially knowing Ling Xi's feelings for Zheng Li.
