Xu Yan observed Shen Haoming chatting with a girl. Sensing a subtle threat, she went to his apartment building and sent a text saying she was downstairs waiting for him. Meanwhile, Shen Haoming was telling Fang Lei, the girl he was talking to, that he was getting married, which visibly stunned her. When Xu Yan later saw Fang Lei at a cooking class, she introduced herself directly, saying, "Hi, I'm Xu Yan. I'm Shen Haoming's fiancée."
Fang Lei, introducing herself in return, explained that she was Shen Haoming's junior schoolmate from London and their families had been close friends for generations, so she was like his little sister. Xu Yan then cordially invited Fang Lei to visit them often, suggesting they could even go shopping together.

A problem arose when Shen Haoming's father, an architecture enthusiast, discovered that Jiajia's father was also in the architecture field—the same profession Xu Yan had claimed for her own hired "father." The conversation deepened when Shen Haoming's mother proudly mentioned that Xu Yan's father had even written a book, "Sustainable Building Design." Jiajia's father, a genuine professional, carefully navigated the topic by clarifying that his own research was in "architectural mechanics" and that their fields, though related, were quite different.
Fearing imminent exposure from this expert-level discussion, Xu Yan quickly intervened, suggesting they all take a group photo to send to Jiajia. Just as they gathered, an assistant "accidentally" spilled wine on Jiajia's parents, prompting them to quickly excuse themselves to change. Claiming they lived upstairs, they departed before more questions could be asked, leaving Xu Yan physically and mentally exhausted from the risky wedding.
Later that evening, Fang Lei texted Shen Haoming, hinting at being at the infinity pool and asking if drunk people drown easily. Despite Xu Yan being asleep, Shen Haoming, feeling it safer to address the situation, went to the pool. He found Fang Lei in the water and urged her to come out, warning her it was unsafe to be drunk in the pool.
Fang Lei refused, wanting to sober up, and provocatively asked if he wasn't afraid she'd drown like her sister. Shen Haoming sternly told her not to utter such words, adding that it was his wedding day and her dramatics were unnecessary. Fang Lei then confessed her deep feelings, recalling every detail of their first meeting and admitting that seeing him marry made her realize she couldn't accept it.
Shen Haoming reiterated that he was married and asked her to respect that. Fang Lei lashed out, calling Xu Yan calculating and claiming she had only pretended to be friendly to uncover their relationship, questioning why Shen Haoming married her. Shen Haoming dismissed her claims, stating her performance at the wedding was dramatic enough and she should drop it and go home once sober.
Upon returning from their honeymoon, Xu Yan and Shen Haoming were greeted by their colleagues, who had missed them. Shen Haoming mentioned they had brought souvenirs for everyone. He then introduced Han Weiping, Jinda Group's newly hired legal consultant, describing him as "young and capable." Shen Haoming noted that Han Weiping and Fang Lei had met at their wedding, remarking that Fang Lei had "good taste." Xu Yan observed this interaction silently.
Shen Haoming then suggested they visit Xu Yan's grandmother in a few days, having already secured leave from his father. Xu Yan readily agreed, seeing it as an opportunity to deliver gifts they had bought for her grandmother. They visited Xu Yan's grandmother, who lovingly embraced Xu Yan, fussing over her weight loss, which Xu Yan gently returned by saying her grandmother was the one who looked thinner. Shen Haoming introduced himself as "your grandson-in-law, Shen Haoming," presenting gifts.
The grandmother praised his handsome looks and welcomed him warmly, though she gently chided them for bringing so many gifts. Xu Yan then reminded her grandmother to continue taking glucosamine for osteoporosis and fish oil for cholesterol, a regimen Shen Haoming had emphasized. Shen Haoming complimented the home-cooked "fresh greens" and "oxtail and taro stew," which the grandmother proudly described as freshly picked from her garden—"green, eco-friendly, and pollution-free"—and "nourishing."
As Shen Haoming began to inquire about Xu Yan's parents, Xu Yan quickly diverted his attention, presenting a framed picture for her grandmother and asking him to hang it in a prominent spot, effectively stopping his line of questioning. Later, the grandmother privately informed Xu Yan that her biological father had a lung tumor, currently benign but with a risk of turning malignant.
Despite his past failings as a father, the grandmother urged Xu Yan to visit him, even offering to accompany her. Xu Yan simply replied, "I understand." The grandmother also gave Xu Yan practical advice on nail care, mentioning how important it was to prevent paronychia. The next morning, Shen Haoming, an early riser due to work habits, volunteered to accompany the grandmother to the market.
On their walk, the grandmother praised Shen Haoming and advised him to prioritize rest to maintain his health for his successful career. Shen Haoming then suggested that she move to Jingzhou to live with them, but the grandmother politely declined, expressing her preference for the countryside and assuring them she was healthy enough to live alone.
The grandmother further shared how Xu Yan always spoke highly of Shen Haoming, and he affirmed his commitment to treating Xu Yan well as her husband. The grandmother then confided that Xu Yan, having been raised by an "old country woman," might have some "bad habits" and pleaded with Shen Haoming to be patient and forgiving, giving her a chance to change. He solemnly promised he would.
Later, Xu Yan, despite her lingering resentment towards her father, secretly provided him with funds for his medical treatment, giving him Qiao Lin's birthday as the password. She also arranged a dowry for her sister. Shen Haoming then took Xu Yan to a serene property tucked away in the city. Xu Yan admired the "blue bricks, gray tiles, and bamboo groves," noting how the place whispered "tales of tranquility and peace," a true "Jingzhou retreat."
Shen Haoming teased Xu Yan about her "journalism student" eloquence, then explained his practical assessment of the property's renovation needs for plumbing, wiring, and waterproofing. Xu Yan was surprised when Shen Haoming revealed the property was hers, declaring her the "lady of this retreat." He explained his intention for her to use it to network and entertain guests, enhancing her career and her application to become an anchor. He confessed he knew she secretly practiced broadcasting at 5 AM. "

Inside, Shen Haoming pointed out height markings on a wall, left by previous owners, and shared how his own father had measured his height, creating meaningful memories he cherished. Xu Yan, however, was transported back to her own childhood, where her family only measured her sister Qiao Lin's height, celebrating her growth while she herself was overlooked.
Touched by the memory, Shen Haoming took out Xu Yan's lipstick and, pulling her close, marked her height on the wall, fulfilling a long-held, unspoken childhood wish. Xu Yan was deeply moved. As they stood there, looking at each other, Xu Yan reflected, wondering aloud if her legs were "this short" compared to the earlier markings.
