At Yunwei Villa, Zhou Wei proposes a marriage between his adopted daughter, Bai Zhi, and the Young Lord, Jingzhao, citing their long-standing mutual affection. The Villa Master, An Chenghu, agrees that an alliance with Fengnuan Pavilion would be a great honor. However, Jingzhao interrupts, declaring it is not the time for romance and reveals he has a pre-existing engagement to Han Wanqing, the Second Lady of the Hanshui Sect.

When Zhou Wei questions how they can prove the identity of a woman missing for years, Jingzhao states his fiancée has a distinctive birthmark. His grandmother, the Madam, correctly describes the birthmark as a yellowish and slightly plump spiritual beast, a detail known only to their family. Tearfully, the Madam embraces Chuyue, welcoming her as the long-lost Han Wanqing.

Despite doubts from Zhou Wei and An Chenghu, who question if a birthmark is sufficient proof, the Madam emotionally coerces her son by reminding him of the hardships she endured raising him and threatening to take her own life if he doesn't trust her. An Chenghu relents, accepting Chuyue as Jingzhao's fiancée. Frustrated, Zhou Wei watches Jingzhao and Chuyue leave together.

Later, Jingzhao confronts Zhou Wei, returning a sword that belonged to his father and implying it does not belong to Zhou Wei. In response, Zhou Wei confidently retorts that there is nothing he wants that he cannot eventually obtain. Hoping to return to her world, Chuyue believes sleeping might transport her back, as it did when she first arrived. Jingzhao enters her room and wordlessly gets onto the bed.

Chuyue protests, but Jingzhao reminds her he only promised her use of the bed, not the entire bed. He assures her he has no interest in her, to which Chuyue retorts that she is more worried about her own potential actions toward him. She admits she only agreed to the ruse because the Madam promised her delicious food, seeing the fake marriage as a temporary cultural experience. Jingzhao sternly reminds her that marriage is not a game.

The next morning, Chuyue is dismayed to find she hasn't returned and panics, as her designer competition registration deadline is in five days. When she tries to sneak out, Jingzhao stops her, claiming he's only preventing her from "making a move" on him. He tells her that if she wastes his time, she'll have to compensate him with labor or silver, clarifying he has no physical interest in her.

Later, Chuyue offers to sew an outfit for Jingzhao in exchange for using his bed on the 15th of the month, believing a portal might open on the full moon. While she grinds ink for him, Jingzhao decides to draw a portrait of her "Prince Charming," Gu Qingfeng, but the result doesn't match her description. During a practice session, Chuyue struggles to defend herself against Jingzhao's attacks.

When Bai Zhi arrives and challenges Chuyue to a duel, Jingzhao intervenes, declaring they will fight together as a couple. With his assistance, they easily defeat Bai Zhi. Jingzhao then tells Chuyue she must serve him until he is satisfied before he will grant her request to use his bed. To earn money, Chuyue begins making and selling her own lipsticks in the garden, with her "Men Slasher" shade proving popular among the maids.

When Jingzhao and his brother, Jingling, discover her business, Jingzhao calls her makeup "ugly," but Jingling finds it "vivid" and charming. Jingzhao and Jingling secretly discuss how to administer an antidote from Doctor Luo to their father, who is constantly monitored by Zhou Wei. Jingling suggests their grandmother is the perfect person for the task, as her eccentric nature means Zhou Wei won't be suspicious, and as an elder, his guards wouldn't dare stop her.

After Chuyue gives her a bold new makeup look, the Madam confidently delivers the medicine, intimidating the guards who, unnerved by her authority and oddly colored lips—which they mistake for a sign of poisoning—decide not to report her to Zhou Wei. The Madam later reassures Jingzhao that the plan is working and teases him about his developing feelings for Chuyue. As her self-imposed deadline nears, Chuyue works tirelessly on Jingzhao's new clothes.

She is invited to the Huaxi Festival banquet, where she presents the finished outfit to Jingzhao. Prodded by his grandmother, he tries it on. Chuyue compliments him by calling him a "beauty", then awkwardly clarifies it can be a gender-neutral term for someone exceptionally good-looking. As part of the festival custom, the Madam instructs Chuyue to draw a healing charm, and when she struggles, suggests Jingzhao teach her "hand-in-hand."

Jingzhao agrees, on the condition that she embroiders the word "Prince Charming" (男神) onto his new clothes. Meanwhile, a furious Bai Zhi learns that Jingzhao is not only celebrating with Chuyue but also intimately teaching her to draw a charm. Determined to stop the marriage, she obtains two pills from Zhou Wei: a colorless, odorless "Lethal Pill" to eliminate Chuyue, and an aphrodisiac.

Zhou Wei's plan is for Bai Zhi to poison Chuyue's wine and then use the second pill to orchestrate a situation where she and Jingzhao are found in a compromising position, forcing the villa to agree to their marriage. Bai Zhi's maid suggests she go to Chuyue under the guise of an apology to trick her into drinking the poisoned wine, a humiliating but necessary step for Bai Zhi to secure her future as the Young Madam.
