Su Xieyi began her new job at Ocean Hotel, where her colleague Gong Ming Yue offered friendly advice on navigating workplace politics and explained the company’s archive system. Gong Ming Yue clarified that while all contracts have digital backups, the physical copies are retained for five years in the archives, a secure room requiring a special access badge, which she possessed. Shortly after, Li Zeliang summoned Su Xieyi to his office.
He attempted to assign her tasks outside her job description, such as cleaning and making coffee, under the pretext of requiring a pristine work environment. Su Xieyi politely but firmly refused, stating she would only perform duties within her official role. She then suggested that, due to her inexperience, she would be better suited to a position in the General Manager's Office to gain more experience, rather than continuing as his personal assistant.
In response, Li Zeliang immediately called Human Resources to have her removed from his service. Meanwhile, Shi Chuchu, the heiress of Hengye Bank, returned to the company and was warmly welcomed by Huo Jian and other staff. Huo Jian lauded her for successfully securing partnerships with eight five-star hotels, far exceeding their initial goal. He asked about Li Zeliang’s absence, and Shi Chuchu explained that he was waiting for her in his office.
Su Xieyi, delayed after sending a personal package, missed the welcome ceremony. Later, Huo Jian approached Su Xieyi, remarking on her working late at Li Zeliang's home and noting how unusual it was for his nephew to allow anyone into his private space.
Unbeknownst to them, Su Xieyi had secretly entered the company archives and discovered that the pivotal contract with Zhiwei Food and Beverage Ltd. Co. had been signed by a man named Chen Heng Sheng, not Li Zeliang, deepening her suspicions. Her actions were not entirely covert, as Ji Yingsong later reported to Li Zeliang that he had seen her access the archives. Later, Li Zeliang went to Su Xieyi's home to apologize.
He confessed that he had recognized her from their past encounter on the very first day they met again. Su Xieyi claimed to have amnesia and expressed no desire to dwell on the past. Li Zeliang proposed they start over as friends and offered to help her regain her memories, but she denied ever receiving the business card he had given her.
While there, Li Zeliang noticed a scrap of an old newspaper on her floor and, upon returning to his office, instructed Ji Yingsong to investigate the lawyer mentioned in it, Xie Minghao, concerned he could become an obstacle. Following this, Li Zeliang visited Uncle Bai, a trusted family friend, and gave him a watch that belonged to his late father, Li Kuo Hai. He asked if Uncle Bai knew of a "Su" family connected to the old Zhiwei company.
Uncle Bai confirmed that the late owner Shen Zhihong's wife was surnamed Su, and that they had a daughter, Su Xieyi, who had moved abroad years ago. This confirmed Li Zeliang's suspicion that Su Xieyi had joined Ocean Hotel to investigate her own father's death. Ji Yingsong soon reported that Xie Minghao had returned and opened a law firm. Li Zeliang met with him to ask about the day his father died.
Xie Minghao stated that he was at the hospital to discuss a partnership with Zhiwei but arrived after Li Kuo Hai was already deceased, recalling only the sight of doctors rushing about. Coincidentally, Su Xieyi had also been consulting with Xie Minghao. She had shared her discovery of Chen Heng Sheng's signature on the contract and, despite Xie Minghao's reservations, enlisted his help. She hid from Li Zeliang when he arrived, keeping her investigation secret.
Concerned by a report from Ji Yingsong that Su Xieyi had checked into a hotel room with numerous people coming and going, Li Zeliang rushed to the hotel. He was relieved to find her only managing a large volume of packages. After offering her a more luxurious room, he clarified that his relationship with Shi Chuchu was not what it seemed. Su Xieyi noticed an invitation to a high-end party in his pocket, an event she wanted to attend.
She tried to get him drunk to take the invitation, but he saw through her plan and drank her wine instead. He then offered her the invitation directly, but she feigned indifference and declined it. Later, at a company meeting, Shi Chuchu announced her decision to fire Su Xieyi with double compensation.
When Su Xieyi questioned if Li Zeliang was the reason, Huo Jian interjected, praising Su Xieyi's capabilities and offering her a position as a helper to his assistant, Yi Fei, thereby saving her job. Li Zeliang also privately persuaded Shi Chuchu to reverse her decision. Huo Jian and Yi Fei later speculated that Li Zeliang might be using Su Xieyi as a pawn against him, so Huo Jian resolved to keep her close to monitor the situation.
Su Xieyi and Xie Minghao met to strategize, agreeing to leverage Huo Jian’s interest in her to gather information. Su Xieyi planned to attend the Hengye Bank wine party to investigate Chen Heng Sheng, and Xie Minghao, though wary of her quest, reluctantly agreed to continue helping her.
