Go Go Squid! Episode 29 Recap
> Go Go Squid! Recap
As Han Shangyan's grandfather prepared to return to Norway, he expressed his full support for his grandson's career, acknowledging the immense effort and suffering Han Shangyan endured to pursue his dream. Having secretly followed online discussions about CTF, he understood Han Shangyan was a hero to many fans. Though proud, he urged his grandson not to overwork and promised his unwavering support, regardless of the circumstances. Shortly after, Su Cheng also prepared to leave K&K for the headquarters in Norway.
The young K&K team members, sad to see her go, lined up to bid her farewell. Su Cheng gave each of them personal advice: she told Shen Zhe not to argue with Han Shangyan, asked 97 to keep an eye on Shen Zhe, and reminded Demo to send her updates on his progress. She expressed her sincere hope that they would one day represent the club internationally and visit the headquarters, which Han Shangyan personally established.
The emotional goodbyes left both the team and Su Cheng in tears. Before leaving, Su Cheng requested a K&K logo as a keepsake, a reminder of the "territory" she and Han Shangyan had built together in China. Han Shangyan returned just as she was leaving, and they shared a poignant moment, reflecting on their shared journey.
When asked about her flight, Su Cheng mentioned she had an afternoon flight but planned to visit a friend first, dismissing Han Shangyan's guess that it might be Wang Hao. Su Cheng then went to see Mi Shaofei. She explained her transfer to the headquarters meant K&K needed a new manager, and she wanted to offer him the position. Mi Shaofei was taken aback, questioning how he could join K&K after just retiring from SP.
Su Cheng clarified that his retirement made it normal, not a betrayal. She emphasized that K&K was like a child to her and her husband, as well as Han Shangyan, and she needed a suitable successor. She insisted that the idea was hers, not Han Shangyan’s, and that she saw Mi Shaofei as a fitting candidate, not just an old friend.
Despite Mi Shaofei's self-doubt about his current abilities compared to his past championship days, Su Cheng explained that she needed a manager, not a player. She highlighted his deep understanding of CTF, the family pressures players face, and the challenges they overcome. Most importantly, she noted his unique ability to handle Han Shangyan's often difficult temper, calling him a simple person who values relationships, much like Mi Shaofei himself.
She encouraged him to seize the opportunity, asserting that "those who have dreams are forever young." Mi Shaofei was left to ponder the offer. While he felt a deep understanding of CTF and the players' struggles, his phone rang—it was his father, urging him to return home, intern at the sub-district office, and prepare for a civil service exam.
His grandmother then took the phone, reassuring him and expressing her unconditional support for his dreams, urging him to enjoy his time in Shanghai. The calls stirred Mi Shaofei's emotions, bringing back memories of his past career, his desperate desire for a championship, and his profound regret over retiring, especially after Team Solo's disbandment following Han Shangyan's departure.
After much thought, Mi Shaofei visited Han Shangyan and invited him for ground pot chicken, a meal that held nostalgic significance from their Team Solo days, symbolizing camaraderie and reunion. During their meal, Mi Shaofei revealed he was there to apply for the K&K manager position.
Han Shangyan was initially surprised but quickly realized the brilliance of the idea, exclaiming that he should have thought of it himself, seeing it as a perfect way for Mi Shaofei to continue his connection to CTF. They celebrated with a toast to their future. Han Shangyan then took Mi Shaofei to the K&K club, proudly showing him the training room, break room, dorms, and even a mock broadcasting studio and a "self-reflection room" for misbehaving players.
Mi Shaofei joked that it felt like betraying SP. They continued to drink beer, reminiscing about their youth until Mi Shaofei passed out on the sofa. While Han Shangyan went to shower, Tong Nian arrived. She had heard from Yaya about the immense pressure K&K faced from Team Buff, a veteran team whose key player had previously defeated Gun God Han Shangyan.
Mistaking the blanket-covered Mi Shaofei on the sofa for a despondent Han Shangyan, she affectionately tried to comfort him, thinking he was upset about past losses. Han Shangyan soon emerged from the shower, and both he and Mi Shaofei revealed themselves, much to Tong Nian's embarrassment. Mi Shaofei, apologizing for the prank, excused himself and left. Tong Nian stayed to help Han Shangyan clean up the mess from their drinking, teasing him about being handsome while doing chores.
Soon after, the K&K team members returned from their half-day leave and found Tong Nian and Han Shangyan together. They playfully teased Tong Nian, calling her "Sister-in-Law," which earned them a stern lecture from Han Shangyan. As punishment for their impudence, he ordered a club-wide cleanup. Later, one of the team members, Demo, discovered Mi Shaofei filling out an application form at the front desk and quickly informed the others.
The news that Han Shangyan had signed Mi Shaofei as the new team manager ignited a furious discussion. The players were upset, calling Han Shangyan "Demon King" and accusing him of favoritism, citing Mi Shaofei's low ranking outside the top 100 as proof of his unsuitability for K&K, let alone the manager position. At 6 p. m. , Han Shangyan officially introduced Mi Shaofei as the new K&K manager, a decision made in agreement with headquarters.
However, the team, led by vice-captain Shen Zhe, openly defied Han Shangyan, refusing to welcome Mi Shaofei and insisting on waiting for Wu Bai, the captain. Mi Shaofei tried to engage with the team, but they were clearly unwelcoming. Later, on the balcony with Tong Nian, Han Shangyan explained his dilemma: he couldn't force the team to accept Mi Shaofei without risking a backlash and needed him to earn their respect independently.
He called Wu Bai, asking him to come and help guide the team. After Wu Bai arrived, he reassured Tong Nian by drawing a parallel to Ai Qing's ability to manage the grown men of SP, confident that Mi Shaofei would also be able to handle K&K's "little monsters." Han Shangyan then called a meeting for Wu Bai's team, while the others were told to continue training.
