Li Haichao was busy renovating his noodle shop. He Ziqiu thoughtfully massaged Li Haichao's back with medicated oil and offered his help. Li Haichao declined, even offering He Ziqiu 500 yuan for a graduation dinner and class reunion, telling him not to worry about money. He Ziqiu felt increasing guilt, remembering Zhao Huaguang's words about Li Haichao's hardship and meager income from the noodle shop.
Before leaving, Li Haichao worriedly asked if Zhao Huaguang had contacted He Ziqiu again, but He Ziqiu hesitated and lied. Meanwhile, Li Jianjian was doing homework and asked He Ziqiu to buy some things, requiring her to give him money. Ling Xiao also asked He Ziqiu to buy items, requesting Li Jianjian pay for them upfront. Li Jianjian diligently continued her homework, expressing worry about not getting into university and consequently, no one marrying her.
Ling Xiao, who had been studying at home with Li Jianjian after his own exams, took her paper and tapped her head for a wrong answer. Li Jianjian jokingly asked if Ling Xiao would marry her if he "tapped her silly." Ling Xiao seriously replied that he would, startling Li Jianjian and making her uneasy. She quietly took back her paper and did not respond. Suddenly, Ling Heping rushed home.
Ling Xiao's maternal grandmother had suffered a sudden heart attack and was in the hospital. Ling Heping instructed Ling Xiao to immediately go with him. Ling Xiao's maternal uncle and aunt were already at the hospital, where doctors had issued four critical illness notices for his grandmother, whose condition was grim. Chen Ting, Ling Xiao's mother, was in Singapore and could not get a flight until the next morning. Ling Xiao and Ling Heping stayed at the hospital overnight.
During this time, Ling Xiao updated Chen Ting via phone. Later, Ling Xiao received another call, this time from Qin Meiyang's uncle, informing him that Chen Ting and her husband had been in a car accident on their way to the airport. Her husband had died instantly, and Chen Ting was seriously injured. Ling Xiao was thunderstruck; still reeling from this news, his maternal grandmother passed away.
Li Haichao and his family waited until midnight for Ling Heping to return home. Li Haichao, worried about Chen Ting's situation, asked Ling Heping for news. Ling Heping gravely informed them of Chen Ting's husband's death and Chen Ting's severe injuries, now in the hospital. Chen Ting's in-laws were pressuring her maternal family to quickly obtain visas to Singapore.
Ling Heping spent the day with Ling Xiao and Ling Xiao's maternal uncle applying for expedited visas, which would still take several days. They planned to use this time to handle Ling Xiao's maternal grandmother's funeral before Ling Xiao's trip. Li Haichao expressed concern that Ling Xiao might not be able to cope, but Ling Heping stated that Ling Xiao was old enough to endure the hardship.
Ling Jianjian was very worried for Ling Xiao, becoming distracted in class the next day, unable to answer a question, despite Qi Mingyue's attempts to prompt her. Ling Xiao and his maternal uncle eventually arrived in Singapore, where Chen Ting was in the intensive care unit. Qin Meiyang's grandmother had already handled her son's funeral and planned to return to Malaysia, taking Qin Meiyang with her.
However, Qin Meiyang refused to leave, clinging to Ling Xiao and insisting she wanted to wait for Chen Ting to wake up with him. Seeing her persistent pleas, Ling Xiao allowed her to stay by his side. Meanwhile, He Ziqiu discussed his desire to study abroad with Zhuang Bei.
Zhuang Bei supported the idea, suggesting that by using Zhao Huaguang's money for his education, He Ziqiu could save money for Li Haichao, with the intention of returning home after he had grown up. Due to her constant worry about Ling Xiao, Li Jianjian was frequently distracted in school. After class, as she descended the stairs with many other students, she felt someone push her from behind and subsequently fell from the third-floor stairs, injuring her arm.
Qi Mingyue immediately called He Ziqiu. He Ziqiu rushed to the school and, upon learning of Li Jianjian's accident and her memory of being pushed, called Zhao Huaguang, suspecting his involvement. Zhao Huaguang denied any wrongdoing, and He Ziqiu, having no time to argue, hung up and carried Li Jianjian home. On their way, Li Jianjian mentioned Ling Xiao, whom she hadn't seen for half a month, realizing how intensely she missed him.
As they walked and talked, they overheard neighbors discussing Li Haichao's collapse. Shocked, they quickly rushed to the hospital, where a nurse informed them that Li Haichao had fainted from overwork and malnutrition but was otherwise fine. After Li Haichao received an IV drip, the three returned home. Li Haichao went to bed to rest, and upon waking, found Li Jianjian sleeping beside him, with He Ziqiu watching over him from the bedside.
