Chen Changsheng continued to struggle with finding a way to break the vine and lightning formation to retrieve the key for the National Academy. He considered seeking assistance from The Empress, but Luoluo strongly opposed the idea, arguing that relying on outside help would only diminish the academy's standing. Chen Changsheng acknowledged her point, agreeing that independence was paramount.
Undeterred by previous failures, Tang Sanshiliu arrived with renewed confidence and an upgraded invisibility cloak, along with a new invention: the "Weed-Killing Lightning-Proof Diamond Suit." He enthusiastically explained its features, claiming it could eliminate vines with toxins, deflect lightning, and even set new fashion trends. Despite Luoluo and Xuanyuan Po's skepticism and warnings, Tang Sanshiliu, convinced of his genius, insisted on testing the suit himself. Predictably, he was once again incapacitated by the formation's lightning and vines.
After being rescued, a bruised but unyielding Tang Sanshiliu proposed another attempt, but Luoluo vehemently objected, emphasizing that Chen Changsheng's life was far more valuable than Tang Sanshiliu's experimental gadgets. During this discussion, Nanke covertly infiltrated the National Academy and seized Chen Changsheng, holding a sword to his throat while demanding the Zhou Garden key. Luoluo fiercely defended Chen Changsheng, threatening Nanke. Tang Sanshiliu, despite his injuries, realized Nanke's intentions.
Chen Changsheng, feigning cooperation, led Nanke to the library, where he seemingly revealed the key's hiding place behind the vine and lightning formation. Nanke, eager to demonstrate her power, effortlessly breached the formation, retrieving the golden key. However, in a swift move, Tang Sanshiliu, using his invisibility cloak, snatched the key away. Nanke, enraged, pursued him, only to discover that she had been tricked into obtaining the National Academy's main gate key, not the elusive Zhou Garden key.
As Nanke and her subordinates cornered Tang Sanshiliu in the Divine Capital, Mo Yu appeared, intervening decisively to save him. Tang Sanshiliu, ever self-absorbed, mistakenly believed Mo Yu was acting out of affection, while she coolly stated her disdain for demons causing chaos in the city. Meanwhile, after her initial rejection, Nanke reported back to her master, Black Robe, expressing her frustration at failing to secure the key and Qiu Shanjun's continued indifference.
Black Robe, sensing Nanke's distress, unveiled a sinister plot: a demon seed that, once activated by a lock of Qiu Shanjun's hair and planted in his body, would gradually transform him into a demon loyal to their cause. Driven by the hope of being with Qiu Shanjun, Nanke tracked him down as he was collecting Heart-Warming Orchids. After a fierce altercation, she managed to obtain a strand of his hair.
Unaware of the conspiracy brewing against him, Qiu Shanjun then visited Xu Yourong, presenting her with the Heart-Warming Orchids he had procured and casting a protective boundary around her residence. During this visit, Qiu Shanjun subtly suggested paying his respects to Xu Yourong's parents, but she politely declined. Although disappointed, Qiu Shanjun accepted her decision gracefully. Witnessing this, Mo Yu became even more displeased with Chen Changsheng, convinced that his existence was causing Xu Yourong's complicated situation.
Back at the National Academy, Tang Sanshiliu relished their successful deception against the demons, playfully recounting their triumph and his inventions, even the "Deep Attraction" which had previously failed. Chen Changsheng acknowledged Tang Sanshiliu's contributions, and they discussed preparations for the upcoming Ivy Banquet and reinforcing the academy's defenses. Chen Changsheng, realizing Luoluo's medicinal herbs were running low, planned to gather more.
Luoluo informed him of the nearby Herb Garden, an abandoned medicinal garden once cultivated by Emperor Taizong, filled with rare and vital herbs. Chen Changsheng, fascinated by the abundance, decided to stay and collect the herbs, instructing Luoluo to find Uncle Jin. Driven by her resentment and believing she was helping Xu Yourong, Mo Yu cunningly lured Chen Changsheng to a secluded cold pond under the pretense of having a method to treat Luoluo's meridians.
Once there, she seized an opportunity and pushed him into the icy depths. Chen Changsheng plunged into the pond's bottom, which shimmered with gold and silver, only to be confronted by a terrifying giant dragon. Though initially apprehensive, and recalling his master's teachings and the fated path he had chosen, Chen Changsheng, unwilling to surrender, resolved to fight the ferocious creature. To his surprise, the dragon could understand human speech.
From their exchange, Chen Changsheng learned that this was the formidable Black Frost Dragon, imprisoned by The Empress for many years after its attack on the Divine Capital. Sensing the dragon's profound loneliness, Chen Changsheng offered to help release it, provided it vowed never to harm humans again. However, Chen Changsheng underestimated the strength of the Empress's magical restraints. When he attempted to cut the dragon's shackles with his sword, he was powerfully repelled.
The dragon, frustrated by Chen Changsheng's brute force, further irritated by being called "Uncle," and recalling years of isolation and human deceit, blew him away. As Chen Changsheng groggily recovered, he was astonished to see the fierce dragon had transformed into a sulky black-clad young girl. Undaunted, Chen Changsheng cheerfully engaged her in conversation and offered her an assortment of fruits. Having not tasted food in countless years, the little black dragon devoured the offerings without reservation.
Chen Changsheng then meticulously examined the powerful formation on her shackles, realizing he currently lacked the means to break it. He promised the little black dragon he would find a way to free her once outside, and in exchange for the food, she agreed to send him out of the cold pond. During Chen Changsheng's disappearance in the cold pond, Xu Yourong visited the National Academy, seemingly having made up her mind to speak with him.
Unable to find him, she observed his living space, noting his neatly arranged books, a bamboo dragonfly, and a wind-seeking crane. These items confirmed her belief that Chen Changsheng had never forgotten her. Simultaneously, in the National Academy courtyard, the innocent bear-tribe youth Xuanyuan Po was diligently turning over turf during his cleaning duties. He discovered something beneath the grass and, in his thoroughness, unearthed a collection of incomprehensible inscriptions.
Leaving the cold pond, a dripping wet Chen Changsheng returned to the Herb Garden, where he unexpectedly encountered Xu Yourong, who was about to depart. Without a word, Xu Yourong used her innate Phoenix flame to dry his clothes. As Chen Changsheng watched her, he was reminded of his "Little Rong'er" from childhood, though he remained unaware that the woman before him was indeed she.
Their private moment was abruptly interrupted by Luoluo's voice, prompting Chen Changsheng and Xu Yourong to bid each other farewell. Soon after, while Chen Changsheng was back at the National Academy, he recounted his ordeal to Tang Sanshiliu, explaining how Mo Yu had nearly harmed him and how he had been saved by the Black Frost Dragon. Predictably, Tang Sanshiliu scoffed, dismissing the story as absolute nonsense. Angrily, Tang Sanshiliu left the National Academy and coincidentally ran into Mo Yu.
When Mo Yu learned Chen Changsheng was alive, she was both surprised and suspicious. She secretly returned to the National Academy to verify Tang Sanshiliu's words and found Luoluo and Chen Changsheng chatting happily together. Realizing that Chen Changsheng must have discovered the Black Frost Dragon, Mo Yu hastily went to the palace to report the entire incident to The Empress.
She had also been implored by Xu Weixin's wife to ask The Empress to annul Xu Yourong's marriage to Chen Changsheng and even eliminate him, portraying him as an unscrupulous opportunist. Mo Yu relayed these accusations, and formally requested the annulment of Chen Changsheng and Xu Yourong's marriage contract. However, The Empress, unconvinced by Xu Weixin's biased account and disapproving of Mo Yu's unauthorized actions, refused to harm Chen Changsheng and sternly warned Mo Yu to cease her interference.
Nevertheless, the persistent news of the marriage contract between Chen Changsheng and Xu Yourong prompted The Empress to summon Xu Yourong, viewing the situation as a critical test for her, given her unique Phoenix bloodline which dictated she could only love one with a true dragon bloodline without suffering severe backlash. Mo Yu anxiously questioned Xu Yourong about her intentions, reminding her that the Xu Yourong she knew was always decisive.
Xu Yourong confessed her inner conflict, admitting that while she knew her path, executing it was challenging, especially regarding matters of the heart. She expressed fear of hurting others, but Mo Yu warned that if Xu Yourong were to develop true feelings for Chen Changsheng, she would only hurt herself and disappoint everyone's expectations. Xu Yourong, needing time to reflect, departed. Later, Luoluo paid a visit to The Empress.
The mischievous young princess spoke effusively about Chen Changsheng's virtues, his brilliance, and his success in solving the demon race's meridian problems, which even The Empress herself had been unable to resolve. Luoluo also shared Golden Tripod tea, a gift from Chen Changsheng, explaining his special brewing instructions. Amused by Luoluo's unwavering devotion and impressed by Chen Changsheng's perceived abilities, The Empress's curiosity about him grew.
She ultimately instructed Mo Yu to take Luoluo to Heavenly Dao Academy for a day, insisting on a formal education for the princess, despite Luoluo's protests about wasting time away from her master and the National Academy. At Heavenly Dao Academy, Luoluo met Zhuang Huanyu, a senior disciple who was immediately intrigued by her candidness and spirited personality. Luoluo, however, was eager to join Chen Changsheng and Xuanyuan Po for a meal and quickly left.
As she headed to the inn, another Heavenly Dao Academy disciple, Huo Guang, accosted her, attempting to force her to leave with him. Xuanyuan Po quickly intervened, followed by Chen Changsheng, who questioned Huo Guang's disrespectful behavior. An arrogant Huo Guang challenged Chen Changsheng, but Luoluo stepped forward, ready to defend her master. Demonstrating her fully circulating true energy, she engaged Huo Guang, swiftly overpowering him with moves like "Star Tail" and "Well Void," ultimately knocking him to the ground.
