Chen Changsheng entered Lingxu Pavilion, observing the stone statues of fallen heroes. He noticed a subtle pattern in their gazes, leading him to a hidden mechanism behind one of the stone walls. Connecting the points, he uncovered a notebook. Through its contents, Chen Changsheng learned that "defying fate" meant altering the trajectory of one's own destiny star or influencing it by changing the paths of others' destiny stars.

He was struck by Zhou Dufu's profound and unique understanding of the Great Way. However, the subsequent pages revealed a dangerous secret: Human Emperor Taizong's destiny was not to be emperor, but he used a secret method to sacrifice the twenty-four heroes of Lingxu Pavilion, one by one, to the Star Array, thereby successfully changing his fate. Chen Changsheng understood the devastating impact such a revelation would have on the Human race.

Chen Changsheng, not being a bloodthirsty person, refused to use Taizong's method of sacrificing others. He tried instead to forcefully alter his own destiny star's trajectory, believing that if he could change his own fate, he wouldn't need to change others'. He tried to "draw stars in daylight" using the sun's power, despite the skepticism of Zhusha, the Black Dragon residing in his dragon soul jade pendant.

He discovered that the sun itself was a destiny star for all life on Earth. However, his divine consciousness was severely scorched by the sun's immense power in the void, leading to a backlash that left him unconscious on the ground. Outside Lingxu Pavilion, Luoluo, Tang Thirty-six, and Xuanyuan Po discussed Chen Changsheng. Tang Thirty-six, worried, had accidentally revealed Chen Changsheng's terminal illness to Luoluo and Xuanyuan Po.

Overhearing this, Luoluo rushed to the door, intent on seeing her master, but Xuanyuan Po stopped her, reminding her of the Empress's decree that no one should enter. Xu Yourong appeared and also urged Luoluo not to disturb Chen Changsheng, stating that enlightenment required mental clarity and fewer distractions.

Luoluo insisted on helping, but Xu Yourong maintained that Chen Changsheng's chances of success were better with fewer distractions and stated that neither of them should interfere, and she would watch outside. However, moments later, hearing the commotion from Chen Changsheng's collapse, Xu Yourong hurriedly pushed open the door and entered, finding him pale and motionless on the ground. Zhusha, who had been attempting to rouse Chen Changsheng, quickly hid in the dragon soul jade pendant as Xu Yourong entered.

He soon regained consciousness with her help, but his divine consciousness was damaged, leaving him weak. He told her about finding Zhou Dufu's notes and his failed attempt to move his destiny star in daylight. Facing his impending death, Chen Changsheng confessed his deep love for Xu Yourong, saying that if he couldn't change his fate, he wished to love her passionately, even if it meant dying, so that someone would remember him.

Xu Yourong was deeply pained by his words and vowed she would not let him die. Unbeknownst to them, Luoluo had overheard Chen Changsheng's heartfelt confession from outside the door, her heart breaking at his profound love for Xu Yourong and his acceptance of death. Distraught, she left Lingxu Pavilion, and, in her grief, forgot to avoid Qiu Shanjun, informing him that Xu Yourong and Chen Changsheng were together in the pavilion.

Qiu Shanjun, who harbored feelings for Xu Yourong, deduced something was amiss and rushed inside. Xu Yourong, quickly wiping her tears, asked for his help, specifically if he had brought the Lishan Seven Saints Profound Pill. Together, Qiu Shanjun used the pill and circulated qi to stabilize Chen Changsheng's divine consciousness and body, while Xu Yourong applied her holy light to treat his internal injuries.

They agreed to keep the incident quiet, particularly from the Empress, with Xu Yourong claiming it was a cultivation mishap. Xu Yourong then sought the Pope's counsel about Chen Changsheng's predicament. The Pope explained that Chen Changsheng's condition was a matter of fate, not illness, and that only the Empress and the Star Array could possibly intervene.

However, he stated that the Empress would not use the Star Array, which was meant for the Human race's destiny, for a single individual. The Pope then revealed that in the Heavenly Book Mausoleum, there was a master named Xun Mei, who had not emerged for thirty-nine years and might possess the knowledge to prolong Chen Changsheng's life, giving him time until Xu Yourong could control the Star Array.

Separately, the Empress had earlier conversed with Xu Yourong about the power of the Star Array and the imprisoned Frost Dragon, alluding to Xu Yourong's destiny to eventually control it and hinting at the ruthless choices required of leaders, valuing the greater good above individual lives, specifically stating that any destiny star not under her control would be "killed without mercy."

Following this, the Pope formally requested the Empress to open the Heavenly Book Mausoleum early, citing the benefit of allowing young talents to cultivate sooner and potentially gain insights for Zhou Garden. The Empress, though aware of the Pope's true motive to help Chen Changsheng, agreed, also noting the potential for other talented individuals to benefit. Meanwhile, Tang Hai, collaborating with the black-robed figure, transmitted news of the Heavenly Book Mausoleum's early opening to the demon race.

The Empress, already aware of Tang Hai's treachery, issued a secret decree to Xu Yourong, Qiu Shanjun, and Mo Yu to infiltrate the Heavenly Book Mausoleum and apprehend any demon spies. She also ordered that Luoluo be kept from entering the Mausoleum for her safety.

Mo Yu and Xu Yourong later discussed the Empress's uncompromising nature and the potential risks Chen Changsheng faced, with Xu Yourong questioning the ultimate purpose of their cultivation if it meant sacrificing individuals like Chen Changsheng for the greater good, lamenting that the Empress could tolerate all beings but not Chen Changsheng. Xu Yourong visited Chen Changsheng at the National Academy to tell him about Xun Mei and the early opening of the Heavenly Book Mausoleum.

Her heart was not calm during this visit, as she tried to convince herself she was merely repaying Chen Changsheng's past kindness, while simultaneously struggling to suppress her deep feelings for him to align with her path of the Great Way. Tang Thirty-six, who was already there, expressed his concern for Chen Changsheng's health but feigned indifference.

Luoluo also came to see Chen Changsheng, still overwhelmed by her emotions, she tried to express something but, seeing Xu Yourong, she bid farewell and left quickly. Preparations were underway for the Heavenly Book Mausoleum's opening, where all eligible scholars would gather to contemplate the steles and seek enlightenment, a rare and important opportunity for many, and a glimmer of hope for Chen Changsheng.
