> Ashes of Love Recap

Xu Feng stood alone by the Wangchuan River, tormented by vivid memories of Jin Mi's last words, "Phoenix, I love you." Drowning in despair, he questioned his reason for living now that she was gone. Utterly hopeless, he released the Hairy Feather, a gift from Jin Mi, allowing it to drift away in the wind.

He succumbed to daily drinking, seeking solace, but the longing for Jin Mi only intensified, gnawing at him and leaving him helpless against the spreading pain. Chief Peony visited Xu Feng in the Demon Realm, disheartened to find him in a profound state of lethargy, having been drowning his sorrows in alcohol since Jin Mi's passing. Upon seeing her, Xu Feng knelt, consumed by guilt for Jin Mi's death and for the Floral Realm's sorrow.

Chief Peony helped him up, admitting her own failure in upholding the former Floral Immortal's dying wish. She revealed the truth about Jin Mi's Yun Elixir, explaining that the former Floral Immortal had foreseen a devastating love doom for Jin Mi and administered the elixir at birth to sever her emotional ties. The elixir, however, had been expelled the night Jin Mi mistakenly killed Xu Feng during Run Yu's mutiny.

Xu Feng was struck by a painful realization, recalling Jin Mi's past attempts to explain her inability to understand love, which he had dismissed. He now understood that he was, in fact, Jin Mi's love doom, the cause of her suffering and ultimate demise. Chief Peony then offered a faint glimmer of hope: the Xuan Ling Lord Doumu, who had once given Jin Mi protective incense ashes and predicted the current events, might know a way to revive her.

Xu Feng sought out Lord Doumu, admitting he knew he deserved the consequences of his actions but simply could not let go of Jin Mi, pleading for help to revive her. Lord Doumu responded with a philosophical riddle about life and death, and the nature of reality, which Xu Feng struggled to comprehend.

When Xu Feng directly asked about Jin Mi's chance of survival and where to find her primordial spirit, Lord Doumu offered an enigmatic hint: "If you can't attain enlightenment, the door of your wisdom won't open; if you can, the door of your wisdom will open." Though not fully understanding, Xu Feng thanked her for the guidance, interpreting it as a sign that a trace of Jin Mi's primordial spirit still existed.

He immediately relayed this news to the Floral Realm. Chief Peony, upon receiving Xu Feng's message, ordered all the floral immortals to dedicate their full power to searching for Jin Mi's primordial spirit throughout the six realms, vowing to retrieve it at any cost and open the Time Gallery to save her. While standing by the Wangchuan River, Xu Feng was suddenly seized by a painful backlash from his cultivation.

Amidst his agony, he hallucinated seeing Jin Mi smiling radiantly in the river. He cried out her name, crawling desperately towards the water, but she vanished, leaving him to yell her name in vain. An old ferryman remarked on Jin Mi's peaceful departure after stopping the war, asking Xu Feng why he clung to his endless regrets at the sorrowful Wangchuan River. Xu Feng officially abdicated his position as Demon Lord, entrusting the Demon Realm to Liu Ying.

He declared that his sole and most crucial mission now was to find Jin Mi, stating that nothing in the world held more importance to him than she did. Liu Ying offered to return the Demon Realm to him once he found Jin Mi, but Xu Feng declined, reiterating that his priority was solely Jin Mi. Xu Feng returned to the humble cottage where he and Jin Mi had lived during their mortal trials.

Every corner evoked Jin Mi's presence, making it feel as though she was still beside him. He searched relentlessly for her, mistaking others for her, his hope repeatedly dashed. Overwhelmed by frustration, he ultimately resolved to stay in the mountain cottage, patiently awaiting Jin Mi's return. He spoke aloud to the empty space, reminiscing about their carefree mortal days, imagining a future where they could live as mortal companions, free from past grievances, and grow old together.

He promised to wait there for her to come back. Supreme Lord Lao, Immortal Taishi, and Pojun arrived at Xu Feng's mountain dwelling, pleading for him to assume the title of Heavenly Emperor. They informed him that Run Yu had employed forbidden techniques to instigate the war between Heaven and Demon, and had even issued an Imperial Decree of My Sins, proving his unsuitability for the throne.

Pojun presented Xu Feng with the Red Clouds Sword, urging him to return to the Heaven Realm and restore order. Xu Feng, who had already stepped down as Demon Lord, initially resisted, believing he no longer had ties to the Heaven Realm. The immortals insisted, citing Run Yu's misdeeds and the ensuing chaos in the Heaven Realm. Xu Feng, carrying the Red Clouds Sword, journeyed to the Heaven Realm to confront Run Yu.

Kuang Lu, seeing him approach with a formidable aura, rushed to greet him, but Xu Feng ignored her, walking straight into Xuanji Palace. There, he found Run Yu bound by iron chains, who, upon seeing Xu Feng, immediately begged him to end his life. Kuang Lu desperately pleaded for Run Yu's life, but Xu Feng, ignoring her, thrust the sword into Run Yu's chest, causing the dark power of Qiong Qi to dissipate from him.

Xu Feng bitterly chastised Run Yu for seeking to abandon his responsibilities after enjoying the power of the Heavenly Emperor. Run Yu, after signaling Kuang Lu to leave, explained that he had used forbidden techniques, disturbing the laws of the Heaven Realm, and that Xu Feng, as his direct lineage, was the most suitable to restore order. He claimed to care nothing for fleeting fame or power now, having only sought justice and revenge.

He asserted that overthrowing his "tyranny" would be a meritorious act for Xu Feng, paving the way for a stable transition to the throne. Xu Feng cut Run Yu's chains, reminding him that the former Heavenly Emperor had given him the Red Clouds Sword to fight Qiong Qi, not to engage in fratricide. Xu Feng declared that he had never sought to contend with Run Yu, caring only for Jin Mi from the beginning.

Run Yu offered a bitter smile, admitting Jin Mi was the only one in his heart too. He then confessed that he had personally restored Jin Mi's Yun Elixir when it shattered during their mortal trials, having witnessed her deep love for Xu Feng and her desire to break off their engagement. Desperate to keep her, he chose to make her incapable of love, inadvertently leading them all to ruin.

Xu Feng finally understood that Jin Mi’s heart had never truly changed; it was Run Yu who had deliberately intervened. Run Yu acknowledged his error in scheming, confessing his love for Jin Mi was born of humility and distorted into hatred and jealousy, leading him to a self-disgusting path. He declared himself weary and ready to accept his fate.

Before Xu Feng left, Run Yu presented him with the Hairy Feather, a memento from Jin Mi, explaining that it should dissolve Xu Feng’s backlash. He also revealed his own impending death, having sworn a blood oath with Qiong Qi to defeat Xu Feng.
