Qi Yuan was about to leave when the men of the King of Gu City reappeared. Frustrated that they couldn't get the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow, they decided to kill Liu Ying to report back to their King. In the ensuing fight, Liu Ying was injured. Enraged, Mu Ci killed all the attackers. Looking at him, Liu Ying wondered if he would only care for her when she was hurt.
She recounted how she had searched for him for hundreds of years, waiting by the Wangchuan River after he disappeared. Seeing him about to leave again, she asked if he was truly going. He assured her he wasn't, telling her she hadn't recovered and should rest instead of moving around. Yan You arrived at Beiyuan Villa with the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow. He found Xu Feng still diligently reviewing memorials late at night.
A servant advised Xu Feng to rest, but Xu Feng insisted on finishing his work first. Yan You began to question if what his foster mother asked him to do – to kill Xu Feng – was truly right. He then decided to suspend the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow above Xu Feng's head with a single strand of hair, leaving Xu Feng's fate to chance. Qi Yuan reported to the Heavenly Empress that he had lost the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow.
The Heavenly Empress was furious, questioning his competence after so many days in the human world. Qi Yuan explained that Xu Feng's trial in the Human Realm had drawn attention from many who wished him harm, including the Demon Realm and Snake Fairy Yan You, whom he suspected of stealing the arrow. The Heavenly Empress agreed, recalling how Yan You had disrupted her birthday feast, and believed Yan You and the Rat Fairy shared a common master.
She ordered Qi Yuan to investigate their true mastermind, particularly keeping an eye on the Water Immortal and the Night Immortal. Qi Yuan mentioned that the Night Immortal, Run Yu, had repeatedly met with Jin Mi in the Human Realm, thwarting her plans. The Heavenly Empress cursed Run Yu for defying her and warned Qi Yuan not to underestimate him. She then inquired about Sui He's memory.
Qi Yuan admitted he hadn't yet opened Sui He's memory due to his search for the arrow. The Heavenly Empress emphasized the importance of activating Sui He's memory, as it would enable her to assist him in the human world. She threatened Qi Yuan, stating that if he failed to retrieve the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow, she would force him to re-forge it using his own heart's blood. Back at the wooden house, Qi Yuan didn't find Liu Ying.
Just as he was about to turn away in disappointment, Liu Ying entered, calling out his name, "Mu Ci." She explained that after waking and not finding him, she feared he had left again and went looking for him, even picking some fruits from the mountain for him. He told her not to walk around since she hadn't fully recovered. She then asked for her bronze piece back, which he returned.
Liu Ying pressed him about how he had been doing all these years, but he didn't answer. He told her he was going to fetch water, and she simply said it was fine as long as he returned. Later, she offered to cook for him, but he urged her to return to the Demon Realm, as she was almost fully recovered. She asked him to return with her, but he refused, saying he could not go back.
He insisted she stop being obsessed with "Mu Ci," claiming he had changed. Liu Ying argued that his repeated rescues proved he still cared, asking why he was so heartless. Mu Ci solemnly stated that she would live a better life without him, then broke free from her grasp and departed, urging her to "Forget me."
Yan You's foster mother was furious as a young boy, referred to as "Little Mud Eel," repeatedly failed to perform the water and fog skill, even though she recalled him mastering the tidal bore skill at age three. She lamented his lack of progress and sent him away, warning him of the dangers outside. Yan You then reported to his foster mother that he had failed to get the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow.
He advised her to accept fate, suggesting that those who do evil would face retribution, and that the Heavenly Empress should be left to her own doom. His foster mother reacted with hysteria, shouting that she had waited too many years and wanted her to pay in blood. Qin Tong was sent by Xu Feng to buy materials for lotus lanterns.
His subordinate grumbled, questioning why the Shanqin Bureau couldn't handle such a task, but Qin Tong explained that these were no ordinary lanterns; they were Xu Feng's secret weapons for an important battle, necessitating the best moonlight paper and bamboo strips. Later, Qin Tong and his subordinate got lost in the forest, suspecting they had encountered a ghost wall after seeing the same tree twice. Going to ask for directions, Qin Tong stumbled upon an elderly couple.
The old woman was barely breathing, wishing her husband would grant her a quick end to her suffering, lamenting the hardships of life and her desire to be with him forever in the next life. Qin Tong, unwilling to see them separated by death, offered all his silver for her treatment. The old woman praised Qin Tong as a kind-hearted person and urged her husband to help him before she passed away.
Qin Tong helped the old man bury his wife, then, feeling pity for the solitary widower, invited him to the military camp. The old man said he owed Qin Tong a favor, gave him a unique seal, and then departed with the silver. Qin Tong, not wishing to seek repayment, left the seal at the old woman's grave. However, no matter how far he walked, the seal kept reappearing on him.
Realizing the old man was no ordinary human, Qin Tong finally accepted the gift. Duke Nanping gathered his subordinates to discuss their plan to force Xu Feng's abdication during the Meeting of Commanding Officers. He outlined his intention to have the Saint Girl announce Xu Feng's illness, after which he would demand Xu Feng step down for a more virtuous ruler, believing that Minister Fu and others would agree given Xu Feng's supposed impending death and lack of an heir.
Sui He, overhearing the conversation, confronted her father, accusing him of coveting the throne. She challenged his assertion that Xu Feng was beyond saving, claiming the Saint Doctor Family could still cure him. Duke Nanping tried to sway her, reminding her that if he became king, she would be a princess with many eligible suitors, but Sui He declared her unwavering love for Xu Feng, stating she would only marry her cousin.
Enraged by her defiance, Duke Nanping ordered a guard, Qi Chong, to confine Sui He to her room, forbidding her from leaving without his permission. Sui He defiantly stated that even if he dethroned Xu Feng, she would still only marry her cousin. At the Meeting of Commanding Officers, Minister Liu spoke first, urging Xu Feng to abdicate due to his illness and lack of an heir, emphasizing the state's welfare.
Xu Feng challenged him, asking who would be worthy of the throne. Minister Liu responded that an upright and virtuous king was needed. Xu Feng then subtly questioned whether Duke Nanping or Minister Fu was attempting to seize power. When Duke Nanping tried to shift blame and punish Minister Liu, Xu Feng intervened and asked Minister Liu how he knew about his illness, suggesting they summon Jin Mi, the Saint Girl.
Jin Mi was summoned and declared that while Xu Feng had indeed been weakened by overwork, he had now fully recovered under her care. At this point, Xu Feng received news that the Saint Doctor Family members were safe and protected by his men, and Duke Nanping's assassins had all been eliminated. Xu Feng then ordered more protection for Jin Mi. Duke Nanping questioned Jin Mi's earlier diagnosis, calling her incompetent.
Jin Mi admitted to an initial misjudgment but cleverly turned the tables by asking where Duke Nanping had obtained such private medical information. She then revealed that the real problem was someone tampering with Xu Feng's diet, presenting a detailed menu of seemingly nourishing but actually conflicting and harmful medicinal dishes. Xu Feng demanded to know the origin of the list.
Minister Fu quickly stated he had ordered Dong Ruixi, the Manager of the Food Supervisor, to transcribe the list, implicitly blaming him. Dong Ruixi, summoned by Xu Feng, confessed but denied having accomplices. Duke Nanping immediately demanded Dong Ruixi's execution, but Minister Fu advised caution and suggested further investigation. Xu Feng agreed and ordered Dong Ruixi's arrest, entrusting Minister Fu with the full investigation.
Xu Feng concluded the meeting by ironically praising the officials, particularly Duke Nanping, as upright and virtuous, effectively exposing his hypocrisy. Duke Nanping was informed that his men sent to the Saint Doctor Family had lost contact, and he sternly ordered his subordinate to ensure Dong Ruixi would not speak again. Meanwhile, Sui He had been praying for Xu Feng's safety.
Her servant brought her the good news that Xu Feng was healthy; his previous illness was a misdiagnosis caused by a tampered diet. Sui He was overjoyed but immediately pressed her servant to confirm if the person behind the diet had been identified and if there were any accomplices, worried about her father being exposed. Her servant confirmed it was Dong Ruixi alone. Elsewhere, Jin Mi's servant happily reported that King Yi's men had successfully saved the Saint Doctor Family.
Since Xu Feng had recovered, Jin Mi, tired of being confined, suggested they go listen to storytelling. They went to a restaurant, where they listened to a storyteller vividly recounting tales of King Yi, the God of War, defeating enemies on the battlefield.
