Feeling bored in the Heaven Realm with Xu Feng and Jin Mi both in the Human Realm, Moon Immortal and Immortal Jiyuan played darts, using Moon Immortal’s head as a target. They bickered over who was cheating, with Moon Immortal accusing Immortal Jiyuan of moving and Immortal Jiyuan criticizing Moon Immortal’s poor aim. Their argument was interrupted when Kuang Lu arrived.
Kuang Lu, Immortal Tai Si’s daughter and a fairy from Xuanji Palace, extended an invitation from her father for them to attend his birthday celebration, promising wine and opera. She assured them no gifts were necessary as her father wished for a simple gathering of close friends. Moon Immortal commented on Kuang Lu's plain attire, likening it to mourning clothes and blaming Run Yu’s “cold and pale style” for it.
Immortal Jiyuan scolded him, but Kuang Lu mediated, agreeing that a more festive look would be appropriate for a birthday. Moon Immortal then conjured a vibrant red dress for Kuang Lu, praising her beauty and noting her striking resemblance to Jin Mi. Recalling Jin Mi's previous remark that Run Yu liked people who were similar to her, Kuang Lu felt a surge of hope.
Meanwhile, Xu Feng, who had been asleep, awoke to Jin Mi's voice and realized he had fully recovered. Fearing that revealing his recovery would lead Jin Mi to ask complicated questions about his identity and involve her in the current intricate power struggles, he decided to continue pretending to be deaf and mute, believing the less she knew, the safer she would be.
Jin Mi, frustrated that her remedies hadn't cured him despite her fifteen years of medical study, wondered if she had misdiagnosed his illness. She prayed, vowing to persuade "Crow" (her nickname for Xu Feng) to abandon his bandit ways if he recovered. Xu Feng, still pretending, used the opportunity to find out more about her.
Jin Mi, careful not to reveal her identity as part of the Saint Doctor Tribe, thought it was safe to tell him her name since he couldn't hear. She introduced herself as "Jin Mi," explaining its meaning: "to seek peace amidst blooming flowers and live a life like floating clouds." Later, Run Yu sat by a river, lost in thought about Jin Mi, when Kuang Lu, now radiant in red, approached him.
She presented him with a bottle of wine from her father called "Heart of Jade," signifying pure intentions and loyalty. While accepting the wine as a gesture of Immortal Tai Si’s profound meaning, Run Yu maintained his cold demeanor and told Kuang Lu he disliked red. Kuang Lu, feigning drunkenness, boldly expressed her concern for Run Yu's hidden suffering, lamenting how he only showed joy to Jin Mi but concealed his pain from everyone else.
She urged him to unleash his true emotions and then presented him with a red thread from Moon Immortal, an auspicious charm, wishing for him to marry Jin Mi soon. Run Yu dismissed her, stating he was not so pathetic as to need pity. Back at the mountains, Jin Mi caught a centipede, intending to use it for medicine and jokingly trying to scare Xu Feng. To her surprise, he immediately swallowed it raw.
When Jin Mi then presented a small snail as a potential medicinal guide, the harmless creature terrified Xu Feng, making him recoil. Later, Jin Mi prepared a medicinal bath for him. While bathing him, she noted his striking good looks and his literacy, speculating he must hold an important position among the bandits. She then discovered his body was covered in countless scars from various weapons.
She lovingly chided him, reminding him how much effort she expended to save his life and urging him to cherish it more. Run Yu went to Moon Immortal’s temple to return the red thread Kuang Lu had given him. While there, he looked into a viewing basin and unintentionally witnessed Jin Mi and Xu Feng’s close interactions in the Human Realm, his fists clenching in silent anger. When Moon Immortal returned, Run Yu gave back the thread.
Moon Immortal jokingly suggested he use it to tie up another sweetheart, which only angered Run Yu further. He retorted by asking who in the entire Heaven Realm didn't already know his feelings. Meanwhile, unaware they were being watched, Xu Feng continued to accompany Jin Mi on her herb-gathering trips, maintaining his pretense of being deaf and mute.
This allowed Jin Mi to speak freely, confiding in him all the thoughts she usually kept hidden and proclaiming him the best listener in the world. As they continued their search for herbs, they suddenly heard the sound of approaching horses. Recognizing them as belonging to Duke Nanping’s Chilian Troop, Xu Feng and Jin Mi tried to escape by taking a shortcut. They were nearly discovered, but Xu Feng swiftly pulled Jin Mi down a slope, cushioning her fall.
As Jin Mi began to question him loudly about the situation, Xu Feng, in a moment of urgency, kissed her to silence her. From their hiding spot, they overheard the soldiers' leader ordering a thorough search of nearby villages for anyone impersonating the King, commanding them to kill such individuals on sight. Hearing this, Xu Feng realized with growing certainty that this was merely a pretext for regicide.
