On New Year's Eve, Qiao Jingjing was in Xi'an, immersed in her busy work schedule. Despite the festive atmosphere, she felt a profound sense of loneliness watching the city's fireworks from her hotel room. Her manager discussed a packed itinerary: a roadshow in Chongqing, then flying to Beijing for the movie premiere on New Year's Day, followed by two more roadshows in Wuhan and Nanjing.

Despite Nanjing being close to Shanghai, Jingjing decided not to return home, opting to fly directly to Beijing for upcoming interviews, a magazine shoot, an advertisement shoot, and several award ceremonies before the Spring Festival. She also confirmed her attendance at the Spring Festival Gala. Jingjing was informed that the table read for Director Li's movie was set for the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, with official filming starting on the eighth.

She expressed her desire to complete as much work as possible before filming to avoid taking leaves. Her manager also mentioned an invitation to an Aerospace Day Gala in April, noting it would be positive for Jingjing's image and perhaps offer a chance to meet Yu Tu. Jingjing readily agreed to attend. Meanwhile, Yu Tu was in a somber mood, which his colleague Zhai Liang noticed before leaving for his own month-long business trip.

Zhai Liang expressed concern, mentioning "Cotton" and reminding Yu Tu of his status as an "idol," urging him not to let things get him down. Yu Tu then left Shanghai and arrived home on New Year's Day, surprising his parents. His mother and father were delighted to see him, especially since he was about to leave for another month-long business trip and was unsure about cell service.

They enthusiastically prepared to cook his favorite fresh dishes, like shrimp, fish, and chicken. His father mentioned his mother's improved health after a recent scare, noting her new focus on healthy eating, and jokingly confessed to sneaking out for fattier pork head meat. Later, Yu Tu went to his room and retrieved his old high school computer from a storage room.

He found an old math textbook, which brought back a vivid memory of Jingjing in high school offering him fried chicken if he would teach her math. Powering on the computer, he logged into his old QQ account and scrolled through past conversations with Jingjing. She had added him after seeing his QQ ID on an aerospace forum, inquiring about Chang'e 1. His replies were brief and pointed, even suggesting she "Baidu" (Google) answers, which frustrated her.

He saw how she later joined an aerospace fan group where he was also a member, known as "Xingchen." Group members welcomed the "new girl," noting her age (17). He saw a message from Jingjing asking for physics help, and a "Mr. Fish Head" offered a solution that was later confirmed wrong by Jingjing's teacher. Finally, he read Jingjing's declaration that she needed to study hard to get into Tsinghua University.

She had revealed to the group that she confessed her feelings to someone but felt rejected due to her grades, and she wanted to get into the same university to prove herself capable of standing beside him, noting her city ranking was around 200, while his was consistently first.

He also recalled another conversation where Jingjing questioned his decision to pursue a finance major, reminding him of his dream of "stars and the sea," and expressing her fervent wish for him to become an aerospace designer, more than anyone else. Reflecting on these past exchanges, Yu Tu realized that Jingjing's ambition to attend Tsinghua was for him, not her fans, and that he had failed to appreciate the depth of her love and support for his aerospace dream.

That evening, Yu Tu went for a walk with his mother. She sensed his troubles and encouraged him to share. He confessed that he had previously submitted his resignation to the institute but had since decided to stay. His mother regretted pushing him into finance during his college applications, expressing how proud she was of him and advising him to pursue his own happiness and dreams without worrying about her and his father.

She then brought up his marriage, suggesting he find a caring girl who wasn't necessarily beautiful or wealthy. Thinking of Jingjing, Yu Tu offered a slight smile and responded that he preferred "the opposite" of her criteria. After his brief holiday, Yu Tu flew to Dunhuang. He arrived to meet his aerospace team for a month-long field experiment in the desert. He greeted a contact person, who directed him to a bus, as his institute's vehicle was already full.

On the bus, he recognized Mr. Zhou from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, whom he had previously spoken with during a teleconference. Mr. Zhou enthusiastically recounted rumors of excellent food at the base, including a dedicated ramen master, while Yu Tu simply said he was content as long as he could eat his fill. Upon arrival at the base, amidst a strong sandstorm, they were instructed to take precautions before disembarking. Yu Tu and his colleagues prepared to settle into their new environment for the upcoming month.
