The lead general shouted arrogantly beneath the city tower. Moments later, the city gates opened, and a single man in white stepped out. This man looked like a powerless scholar, making others underestimate him. Just as the general prepared to strike and teach him a lesson, he was unexpectedly knocked off his horse in one move by Yu Wuyuan, who then loudly requested to see the commander of Shangzhou, Fan Shiji.

It was widely known that the celestial Yu Gongzi was unparalleled, the foremost among the four noble sons of the time. Though Fan Shiji respected his compassion, he still had no intention of retreating. Yu Wuyuan stated bluntly that undercurrents were surging across the six provinces, and the lords harbored treacherous thoughts. If Fan Shiji insisted on initiating such a disloyal and unjust war, it would only give the Five Provinces a chance to invade Shangzhou.

Although Shangzhou was relatively wealthy, its military strength ranked low among the six provinces. Therefore, Yu Wuyuan promised to consult with the lord of Luocheng and assured that if Fan Shiji agreed to retreat, Shangzhou would henceforth be exempt from taxes. Fan Shiji, somewhat tempted, agreed on the spot to report back to the King of Shang. Yu Gongzi’s mere words to halt war won him praise from all present. Bai Fengxi scrutinized Huang Chao carefully.

Despite having known Hei Fengxi for years and believing she should now see all men’s appearances with a calm heart, she couldn’t help but be amazed today and saw through his true identity. As Bai Fengxi observed Huang Chao, he too was sizing her up. A name that could stand beside Hei Fengxi’s faintly surfaced in his mind. However, it was hard to match the reputation to the appearance.

At a glance, there was little to admire—far from the breathtaking figure known in the martial world. Thus, Huang Chao made a pact with Bai Fengxi: when he transformed this barren mountain into a clear lake, he would invite her to cleanse away worldly dust. Bai Fengxi gladly agreed. After a hearty meal, she instructed Han Pu to pack the leftover food, then handed him Yan Yingzhou’s silver knife. To see the knife was to see the man.

Since it had once fallen into Bai Fengxi’s hands, Huang Chao finally confirmed her identity and couldn’t help but marvel that she truly was the most extraordinary woman under heaven. Considering the troubles Bai Fengxi had faced and to repay her grace and carefree nature, Huang Chao decided to visit the Tianshuang Sect first to deal with those seeking the Empyrean Token. Fan Shiji responded by raising a banner of no battle and immediately sent a letter back to Shangzhou.

Unexpectedly, Eunuch Liu accused him of violating military law and ordered his execution as a warning. Meanwhile, Yu Wuyuan was also wary of sudden changes, and sure enough, before his words faded, Eunuch Liu led the Shangzhou army to encircle the city, vowing to break into Luocheng. Yu Wuyuan promised to stand with Luocheng through thick and thin, confident in victory. Upon ascending the tower, he commanded the army to use the Three Talents Formation.

The soldiers at the main gate stood ready under his command, using the Mystic Pouch Formation to hold off the army and boost morale with war drums. Just as both sides were about to clash, Hei Fengxi arrived in time and subdued Eunuch Liu, warning that attacking now would expose the Shangzhou army to attacks from both sides. He also revealed that Jizhou’s Sky Riders were already en route and would arrive within half a day.

Terrified, Eunuch Liu’s legs trembled as he hurriedly agreed to withdraw the troops. Once the army had retreated, Yu Wuyuan came down from the tower and went straight to Hei Fengxi, clasping hands in gratitude. That night, the city lord ordered an all-night celebration. Yu Wuyuan and Hei Fengxi enjoyed a deep and cheerful conversation.

In their exchanges of smiles, salutes, and greetings, one was as elegant as if in a golden hall, the other as ethereal as if standing atop white clouds. Hereditary Prince Huang Chao sent a letter bearing two good news and one bad. Hei Fengxi guessed the bad news was that Yan Yingzhou had died protecting the Empyrean Token, while the good news was that the token had fallen into Huang Chao’s hands.

However, upon hearing that Huang Chao had encountered Bai Fengxi on the mountain outside the Tianshuang Sect and spoke highly of her, Hei Fengxi felt a twinge of jealousy. Now that Yu Wuyuan had halted the war at Luocheng, he still worried about the world’s future. True to his name, Huang Chao’s possession of such a virtuous minister revealed his evident ambitions, which made Hei Fengxi all the more cautious.

Meanwhile, on the road back to the Tianshuang Sect, Bai Fengxi and Han Pu, thanks to Huang Chao’s intervention, finally escaped the pursuit of martial world figures. Bai Fengxi reported to her master about the battle with the Soulbreaker Sect, which was filled with skilled warriors, especially proficient in deadly formations like the Blade Formation, Six Ghost Formation, and Eight Ghost Formation. All were fiercely ruthless.

Bai Jiande, upon hearing that a handkerchief bore embroidery of the qiongqiong and juxu beasts, recalled the chaos during Dadong’s Chongde era. Back then, a mysterious army had attacked, leading him to suspect that they had been in hiding for a hundred years and now resurfaced as the Soulbreaker Sect—possibly to spark new conflict. After the conversation with her master, Bai Fengxi prepared a Tianshuang Sect disciple’s outfit for Han Pu and told him not to rush growing up.

For now, he only needed to train diligently; only with a goal could life be meaningful. Han Pu wished to become as powerful as Bai Fengxi and thought of Huang Chao, wondering if he would one day become emperor and whether, like the stories, he would find the throne cold and lonely.

The third prince of Yongzhou, Feng Ju, took advantage of military drills as a pretext to visit his bedridden second brother, Feng Lanxi, though in truth he wanted to investigate. Unfortunately, Hei Fengxi had not returned yet, and the stewardess of Lanxi Manor, Huan Niang, guarded the door resolutely, refusing him entry. It wasn’t until the eldest prince, Feng Chang, intervened that the situation was defused.

He publicly whipped Huan Niang in front of others—a ruse that successfully intimidated Feng Ju. Before Feng Ju could react, Yongzhou governor Ren Rusong arrived from outside, angrily questioning how the eldest prince could strike a palace maid. Seeing that his brother and Ren Rusong were about to argue, Feng Ju quickly stepped forward to mediate. Ren Rusong seized the opportunity to propose going to see the second prince Feng Lanxi to settle things.

Through the window, Feng Ju vaguely saw someone being treated for injuries, which dispelled his suspicions, and he soon found an excuse to leave. As Feng Ju disappeared from the doorway, Ren Rusong finally let out a sigh of relief and quickly thanked Feng Chang. Without his intervention, there would have been no way to scare off the third prince. However, the more Feng Ju thought about it afterward, the more he felt something was wrong.

Realizing he had been duped, he decided to report the matter to the Lord of Yongzhou. The Lord didn’t believe Feng Lanxi would leave the palace without permission and, since the next day was a rest day, planned to take Feng Ju to the Hot Springs Palace.
