To counterbalance Hei Fengxi, the Lord of Yongzhou issued a decree promoting Feng Chang to Lord Yongxin, and instructed Yuan Lu to notify the Ministry of Works to ensure the production of armor and weapons before the winter break. Feng Ju had already been displeased that Feng Lanxi had surpassed him; now hearing that the violent and incompetent First Prince was also granted a lordship, he flew into a rage. Among the three princes, he alone remained without a title.

After calming down, Feng Ju ordered someone to pass a message to his mother, saying it was time to put their preparations to use. He whispered a few words to Li Jiaxian, sending him to his uncle Baili Jing to forge an imperial edict and pass it to Feng Chang. Meanwhile, Madam Baili gifted a hairpin to Qi Cheng to win her favor, preparing for both outcomes.

Hei Fengxi received an invitation from Feng Chang to admire the plum blossoms together the next day. Sensing a trap, he grew suspicious and secretly ordered an investigation, discovering that Baili Jing had met with his elder brother in private. That evening, on his way home, Hei Fengxi was suddenly doused in black dog blood by someone who accused him of causing their family's ruin. Afterwards, Zhongli found that the perpetrator was a merchant who had colluded with Wang Minghai.

When Wang was imprisoned, the merchant was also punished for bribery and thus bore a grudge against Feng Lanxi. In fact, this incident had been orchestrated by Feng Chang himself in hopes of preventing his second brother from going out. However, Feng Lanxi insisted on meeting Minister Liu and dismissed the supposed omen. Huan Niang couldn't persuade Hei Fengxi, so she let him leave the residence.

By chance, she overheard Zhongli’s conversation and realized he was not going to see Minister Liu, but merely using it as an excuse to meet Bai Fengxi. Upon learning that Hei Fengxi had been doused in dog blood, Bai Fengxi had her own method to ward off the misfortune. The two happily dined at a street stall. Later, Bai Fengxi took Hei Fengxi sightseeing, eating along the way.

Unexpectedly, they ran into her junior apprentice sister Bai Langhua and Xiu Jiurong. To avoid misunderstandings, Bai Fengxi quickly hid Hei Fengxi, but still failed to escape Bai Langhua’s sharp eyes. Bai Langhua tactfully pulled everyone away first. After they disappeared from sight, Hei Fengxi came out and questioned Bai Fengxi about her fear of causing misunderstandings, prompting her to quickly make up an excuse.

Following orders, Zhongli prepared a gift and accompanied Hei Fengxi to the plum garden for the appointment. Present were also the Third Prince Feng Ju and Baili Jing. The servant serving tea had drugged it, and when Hei Fengxi completely lost consciousness, they placed Qi Cheng’s corpse beside him, attempting to frame Feng Lanxi for the murder of the daughter of the Duke of Qi.

At that moment, Feng Chang rushed to the attic and was shocked by the scene before him, not expecting Madam Baili to be so ruthless. Just as a servant reported to Feng Chang, Hei Fengxi suddenly woke up and knocked the man unconscious. He knew very well what kind of person his elder brother was and suspected there was a mastermind behind all this. Feng Chang didn’t reveal the truth.

Instead, he rebuked his second brother for always hiding things from him and never treating him sincerely. He was especially furious that Fengxi came to the meeting despite their agreement to sever ties. But Hei Fengxi bluntly said that his brother’s life was pitiful—shunned by their birth mother since childhood—so their mother had asked him to take good care of his elder brother and never turn a blind eye when he was in trouble.

In fact, all along it had been Feng Chang who cared more for Hei Fengxi. Even though he had resolved to end their brotherly bond, Hei Fengxi bore no resentment. He even gave Feng Chang his gold-threaded whip. Although Feng Chang was heartbroken, he still spoke harsh words to protect his younger brother. When Hei Fengxi was about to leave, Feng Chang deliberately staged a scene in front of Feng Ju and faked a fall from the building.

Fortunately, an imperial physician was present to examine him. Though his life was not in danger, his right leg was broken. The Duke of Qi, grief-stricken over his daughter’s death, accused Feng Lanxi of being the murderer. Just then, Baili Jing rushed in madly, with obvious scratch marks on his face—enough to prove he was the killer.

Hei Fengxi had sensed something was amiss beforehand and collaborated with Zhongli to stage a scene, turning the situation around and directing suspicion toward Baili Jing. They made him appear mentally unstable and insane. This not only proved Fengxi's innocence but also helped resolve his elder brother’s current predicament.

The Duke of Qi entered the palace to see the Lord of Yongzhou, begging him to seek justice for his wrongly killed daughter, and insisted that Feng Lanxi had framed Baili Jing. But in the main hall, Hei Fengxi remained calm and confidently refuted the Duke’s baseless accusations against the royal family, leaving him speechless. Seeing this, Zhang Zhongge stepped forward and stated that the Duke was overwhelmed with grief and had spoken rashly.

A final judgment should wait until Feng Chang regained consciousness. After dismissing the courtiers, the Lord of Yongzhou asked Yuan Lu for his opinion, believing that while Baili Jing was a scoundrel, he wouldn’t commit such acts out of lust. Perhaps it was Feng Chang who had attempted to frame Feng Lanxi, only to be outwitted. Yuan Lu believed Feng Chang was likely framed—he might plot against someone, but not at the cost of his own life.

After Yuan Lu’s analysis, the Lord of Yongzhou concluded that the most suspicious were Feng Ju and Madam Baili, especially the Third Prince. This move would allow him to eliminate both of his elder brothers and secure the position of Hereditary Prince. Just then, Madam Baili suddenly requested an audience. The Lord of Yongzhou was furious and ordered Yuan Lu to send her away.

However, Madam Baili forcibly entered and voluntarily returned her phoenix coronet, claiming to restore order in the inner palace. The Lord ignored her, but she declared the incident had nothing to do with her and believed the Lord’s sharp insight would reveal that the true mastermind was the one who benefited most. Back in the palace, she slapped Feng Ju hard and questioned his foolish decision.

Feng Ju shifted the blame to his uncle Baili Jing, but Madam Baili remained doubtful. Zhang Zhongge led a team to seal off and search the plum garden. There, they discovered a corpse—the missing servant in blue from Xuliu Pavilion. Moreover, a piece of Empyrean fur was found in the corpse’s palm, stained with wine—the same type found on Qi Cheng’s body.

The Lord of Yongzhou immediately issued a decree placing all young noblemen who attended the plum banquet under house arrest. Zhang Zhongge went to the residence of Lord Yongping to inspect the Empyrean fur Feng Lanxi had worn that day, but Feng Qiwu had already prepared a replacement. After Zhang Zhongge left, Feng Qiwu instructed Xiao’er to keep the fur safely. She hadn’t destroyed it because Feng Chang had not yet awakened. Everything was still uncertain.

To fully clear Feng Lanxi of guilt, Feng Chang needed to personally confirm Baili Jing's crime. Since Feng Lanxi was now confined to his residence and unable to act freely, many matters had to be handled by Feng Qiwu on his behalf. Though she knew Feng Lanxi had no romantic feelings for her, she remained content, hoping that one day she could win his favor and that he could go wherever he wished.
