> Under the Power Recap

Lu Yi confronted his father, Lu Ting, about his past inactions, accusing him of prioritizing the Yan Family's power over upholding justice. Lu Yi recalled how Shen Lian, a registrar he considered a brother, tragically died after Lu Ting failed to help him, fearing the Yan Family. He also mentioned Secretary of Revenue Yang Qizheng, who was slandered and tortured to death for attempting to impeach the Yan Family, and the tragic fate of the Xia Family.

Lu Yi pressed his father, asking if he had ever regretted his choices over the years. Later, Cen Fu brought Lu Yi some investigative files, including those of Xia Ran, which Lu Yi had requested. Cen Fu reported finding an old maid who used to work at the Xia Residence. She revealed that Xia Changqing had a daughter who went missing during the Lantern Festival when she was about four years old.

Lu Yi then remembered a recurring dream of a little girl playing at the Xia mansion, connecting it to the missing child. Cen Fu also noted that after the child traffickers died, the girl was sent to an orphanage. Lu Yi instructed Cen Fu to gather the files of all four-year-old children from that orphanage at the time. Meanwhile, Yan Shifan revealed his true intention: he didn't care about Yu Dayong, a mere "small fry."

He planned to use Yu Dayong's plight to trap Lu Yi, knowing Lu Yi's strong sense of righteousness would compel him to intervene. Yan Shifan intended to impeach Lu Yi for colluding with border generals, aiming to eradicate the entire Lu Family. He even boasted of his power over His Majesty, threatening to turn him into the next Xia Ran if he dared to defy him.

Lu Yi spent the night studying in his office and, the next morning, learned that General Yu Dayong had been escorted back to the capital. He rushed to the Imperial Prison, expressing his sorrow that a loyal general who had bravely fought on the battlefield was now framed and imprisoned. Yu Dayong lamented the injustice, feeling his life's purpose was to die on the battlefield, not as a framed prisoner.

Lu Yi vowed not to stand by and promised to do everything to clear his name. Lu Yi presented a memorial advocating for Yu Dayong to Lu Ting, who angrily rebuked him. Lu Ting explained that presenting such a document without concrete evidence would not only fail to help Yu Dayong but also implicate Lu Yi. Soon after, Yuan Jinxia visited Lu Yi at the North Bureau, sensing his distress over Yu Dayong's situation.

She assured him she would help in any way she could. Seeing Lu Yi's somber mood, Yuan Jinxia suggested they take a walk to clear his head. Later that night, Lu Ting observed Lu Yi still poring over case files. He recalled Lu Yi's childhood aspiration to become a "righteous gentleman."

Lu Ting then advised Lu Yi to instruct Yu Dayong to write a letter offering to lead forces to suppress the Japanese pirates, assuring Lu Yi that His Majesty would then consider his plea. Lu Yi met Lan Qingxuan late at night, his haggard appearance betraying his distress over Yu Dayong. Lan Qingxuan acknowledged Lu Yi's righteous nature but warned that such a path often came with sacrifices, especially given the dangers posed by the Yan Family.

Lu Yi explained his plan for Yu Dayong to atone for his "sins" by leading the charge against the Japanese pirates, but admitted he needed Lan Qingxuan to use an "oracle" to convince His Majesty, who was unlikely to change his mind easily. Lan Qingxuan shrewdly understood Lu Yi's request and agreed to help by providing a pretense of divination.

The next day, as Lan Qingxuan performed a divination for His Majesty, Lu Yi sought an audience and presented Yu Dayong's memorial. After Lu Yi departed, Lan Qingxuan mysteriously declared that a capable person would emerge to solve the problem of the Japanese pirates in the southeast, subtly reinforcing Yu Dayong's proposal. Soon after, Yu Dayong was released from the Imperial Prison. Yang Chengwan and Lu Yi were there to see him off.

Yu Dayong light-heartedly mentioned looking forward to drinking at Yang Chengwan's son's wedding, which inadvertently made Lu Yi think of Yuan Jinxia, prompting him to quickly excuse himself from Yang Chengwan. Yan Shifan learned of Yu Dayong's release and correctly deduced that Lu Ting had orchestrated the manipulation of His Majesty's decision to protect his son. Lu Yi, accompanied by Lin Ling, arrived at Mrs. Yuan's home with betrothal gifts.

Mrs. Yuan initially mistook Lu Yi for someone Yuan Jinxia had brought to deter another arranged marriage. Lu Yi quickly clarified that he was indeed there to formally propose marriage and would follow all proper wedding etiquette with formal betrothal gifts. Mrs. Yuan expressed her bewilderment, remarking on Yuan Jinxia's tomboyish nature as a child and her current lack of ladylike manners, questioning what Lu Yi could possibly see in her.

Lin Ling interjected, confirming the genuine affection between Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia. Mrs. Yuan then inquired about Lu Yi's family background. Lu Yi stated that both he and his father worked in the court, and he held the title of Assistant of the Embroidered Uniform Guards. Mrs. Yuan, still concerned, asked if an Assistant was a high-ranking official.

Lin Ling reassured Mrs. Yuan that Lu Yi was a handsome and capable man who treated Yuan Jinxia well, making him a suitable match. Despite her earlier reservations, Mrs. Yuan voiced concerns about Yuan Jinxia, accustomed to freedom, potentially suffering if she married into an official family with strict rules. Lu Yi promised that his family, consisting only of him and his father after his mother's early death, had few rules, ensuring Yuan Jinxia would not be constrained.

Mrs. Yuan teasingly remarked that it remained to be seen who would suffer more, but ultimately gave her consent. As Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia walked through the streets hand in hand, Yuan Jinxia paused at a stall, pointing to a jade pendant and reciting a line about a mythical fish named Kun that could transform into a bird. Lu Yi recalled her saying the same words when they were cutting paper in Yangzhou.

Yuan Jinxia then bought the pendant for one tael of silver and gave it to Lu Yi, who smiled, calling it a treasure. Cen Fu returned to Lu Yi with the files of all four-year-old children from the orphanage at the time, including the names of their adopters. Upon reviewing them, Lu Yi discovered Yuan Jinxia's name. He remembered Yuan Jinxia had told him she was adopted from an orphanage by Mrs. Yuan.

The names Yuan Jinxia, Yang Chengwan, Lin He, and the Xia Family began to connect in Lu Yi's mind. He theorized that Lin He had deliberately arranged for her child to be taken away and then secretly entrusted her to Yang Chengwan to protect the Xia Family's bloodline, which explained Yang Chengwan's unusual care for Yuan Jinxia. Meanwhile, Lin Ling, while helping Mrs. Yuan with chores, subtly asked about Yuan Jinxia's adoption.

Mrs. Yuan recounted how she adopted Jinxia for companionship after her husband's early death, recalling that Jinxia, then a quiet child eating in a corner while others cried, had a word "Xia" on the corner of her dress, which led Mrs. Yuan to name her Jinxia. Startled, Lin Ling eagerly asked to see the dress. Mrs. Yuan retrieved it from a chest.

Seeing the "Xia" character and the specific embroidery on the dress, Lin Ling recognized it as her sister Lin He's handiwork, realizing with immense joy that she had finally found her sister's daughter. An overjoyed Lin Ling excitedly told Yuan Jinxia that she was her biological aunt and her sister Lin He's daughter.

She pointed out that Yuan Jinxia bore a striking resemblance to her mother and revealed that Lin He had sewn Yuan Jinxia's birth details into the collar of the dress as an old custom to ward off diseases. Lin Ling then carefully cut open the collar, revealing a strip of cloth with Yuan Jinxia's birth information.

Mrs. Yuan remained skeptical despite the evidence, but Lin Ling insisted, further explaining that Yang Chengwan's willingness to accept Yuan Jinxia as his disciple was another testament to her true identity. Overcome with emotion, Lin Ling knelt and repeatedly thanked Mrs. Yuan for raising Yuan Jinxia for so many years. Yuan Jinxia, finally grasping the truth, tearfully embraced Lin Ling, calling her "Aunt." Though saddened by the revelation, Mrs. Yuan expressed relief that Yuan Jinxia had found her biological family.

Yuan Jinxia then eagerly asked about her parents, but Lin Ling, with a heavy heart, could only tell her they had passed away. Lin Ling then recounted the tragic events: Yuan Jinxia's true surname was Xia, making her Xia Ran's granddaughter. Years ago, Lin Ling received a letter from Lin He, instructing her to come to the capital to retrieve Jinxia from Yang Chengwan.

However, by the time Lin Ling arrived, the Xia Residence had been tragically annihilated by the Yan Family. Lin Ling explained that Lin He had secretly sent Yuan Jinxia away beforehand to preserve the Xia Family bloodline. Lin Ling urged Yuan Jinxia and Mrs. Yuan to keep this secret, as revealing it would put Yuan Jinxia in grave danger. Mrs. Yuan, grappling with the bittersweet discovery, worried about losing the daughter she had raised for so long.

Yuan Jinxia, sensing her foster mother's distress, assured her she would always be her daughter and would never leave her. Still overwhelmed with finding Yuan Jinxia, Lin Ling rushed to Yang Chengwan's residence and confronted him, demanding to know why he had lied about Yuan Jinxia's identity. Yang Chengwan initially feigned ignorance, but Lin Ling stated she had already found irrefutable proof of Yuan Jinxia's identity.

She accused him of deliberately leading her astray while knowing Yuan Jinxia was her only surviving relative. Yang Chengwan admitted to his deception, explaining that he had acted to protect Yuan Jinxia and Mrs. Yuan from the dangers that would follow if Yuan Jinxia's true identity was revealed, especially now that Lu Yi had proposed to her.
