Yang Yue awakened in a small, rustic cabin, his body covered in wounds. A hunter entered, revealing that he had saved Yang Yue after finding him on the mountain. Though eager to find his friends, Yang Yue was too weak to move and reluctantly drank the medicine the hunter offered, who advised him to rest until his wounds healed. Meanwhile, Chunyu Qi returned home to the great delight of his father.

Yuan Jinxia commented that Chunyu Min's sacrifices had not been in vain. Qi agreed, calling his sister the Chunyu family's greatest savior, and he would thank her properly. Jinxia found this ironic, remarking on how quickly a married daughter is considered a stranger. She confronted them directly, pointing out that they viewed their daughter as a commodity to be traded for profit, and that it was no wonder Min had become so twisted with such a family.

Offended, Qi retorted that girls were simply cheap assets. Enraged, Yuan Jinxia lunged at him, but Lu Yi intervened, pulling her back. He excused Jinxia's candor and announced they would depart for the official inn the next day to avoid causing further trouble. Later, Yuan Jinxia expressed her outrage to Lu Yi over the Chunyu family's callousness. Lu Yi reminded her that as a constable, she could not simply assault people and must remember her official duties.

Jinxia conceded her behavior was rash and vowed to be more discreet in the future. Lu Yi clarified that their departure was not because of her actions, but because their prolonged stay and true identities could drag the Chunyu family into danger. When Lu Yi asked if she still hated Min, Jinxia reflected on her own humble but loving mother, who would rather die than force her into an unwanted marriage.

She admitted to pitying Min but affirmed that she would not forget the injustice done to her. Lu Yi's subordinate, Cen Fu, reported that the two women Yan Shifan had married under his Sima Chang'an identity shared a common link: a piece of land near the Chunyu family's stables. Curious, Lu Yi decided to investigate the site, with Yuan Jinxia accompanying him.

In a separate search, Lin Ling, Beggar Uncle, and Yang Yue's father learned that the trafficker they were looking for had died, leaving the fate of Lin Ling's niece uncertain. Lin Ling was heartbroken, but they agreed to prioritize finding Yang Yue. Having received information that Lu Yi's group was in Hangzhou, they resolved to head directly to the Chunyu mansion. Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia arrived at the land and observed workers diligently transporting goods.

Jinxia recognized two of the men from Sima Chang'an's mansion. Lu Yi surmised the site was a rich mineral vein, specifically a tin mine, noting the advanced metallurgical techniques. Soon after, Yan Shifan appeared, inspecting the quality of refined tin springs and ordering his men to increase production. Lu Yi and Jinxia discreetly followed a transport cart, managing to obtain a dropped spring and apprehend a worker.

Under questioning, the man revealed that the cave housed a mine and a metallurgical factory. He explained that Sima Chang'an had forced him to locate the mineral veins, leveraging his ancestral mining expertise, and detailed that the mine was divided into three parts. Jinxia realized Sima's marriages were a cover to acquire the land deeds containing this valuable mine. As Lu Yi prepared to take the worker into custody, Yan Shifan and his entourage appeared, having noticed their spying.

Yan Shifan brazenly taunted Jinxia, recalling her on his wedding bed. Enraged, Jinxia called him shameless, but Lu Yi restrained her. After they were escorted away, Yan Feng swiftly executed the captured worker. Deeply troubled, Lu Yi told Jinxia that he could no longer bring her on such perilous missions. Meanwhile, Xie Xiao located a haggard Shangguan Xi, who informed him that Yang Yue had fallen off a cliff and his body was not found.

Clinging to hope, Xie Xiao suggested Yang Yue might still be alive and took her back to the Wu'an Sect, instructing his men to continue the search. At the Chunyu mansion, Min returned to find her parents and Qi happily dining, seemingly unconcerned about her. She made a sarcastic comment about her marriage to "Sima Chang'an," but Yan Feng, who was present, quickly interjected. Min bitterly confronted her family for their hypocrisy, leaving them visibly uncomfortable.

Back with the hunter, Yang Yue tried to remove his bandages, but the hunter stopped him, warning that it could lead to infection and permanent disfigurement. Distraught, Yang Yue asked about the severity of his wounds, but the hunter could not give a certain answer. Elsewhere, Shangguan Xi stared forlornly at a hairpin Yang Yue had given her.

When Xie Xiao brought her food, she urged him to inform Yuan Jinxia of Yang Yue's disappearance, believing Jinxia's tracking skills could locate him. Aware that Lu Yi would report his illegal mining, Yan Shifan ordered his men to find a replacement for Sima Chang'an and erase all traces of his involvement. He also told Yan Feng to have Zhai Lanye manage the mine.

When Yan Feng reported that Min might have exposed him, Yan Shifan dismissed killing her family immediately, stating it wouldn't be "any fun." Lu Yi informed Jinxia that he had reported Sima Chang'an's unauthorized mining to the court. However, without concrete evidence linking him to Yan Shifan, he couldn't expose Yan Shifan's true identity. Jinxia offered to testify, but Lu Yi firmly refused, unwilling to put her in danger.

She hugged his arm, insisting she wasn't afraid and would face any peril with him. As Min was being transported, her sedan chair was abruptly stopped. Her attendants abandoned her, and Yan Shifan appeared. He informed her that Sima Chang'an would soon cease to exist, a "gift" from Lu Yi, and ominously asked how he should treat her now. Terrified, Min begged for her life, offering to help him deal with Lu Yi.

Yan Shifan scoffed, deeming a simple murder too crude; he preferred to "steal what is most important to him and make him suffer for his whole life." Min immediately understood he meant Yuan Jinxia. Yan Shifan confirmed her intuition, agreeing to give her the chance, but only after she passed his test. Yan Shifan had his men kill the Chunyu family's guards and entered the mansion with Min, where her parents, Qi, and their maid were captured.

He callously asked Min's father what to do with the daughter who had angered him. The terrified father replied that she was his to command. Yan Shifan handed Min a knife and ordered her to kill the maid. Min hesitated, and Yan Feng stepped in to kill the maid himself. As Min screamed in horror, Yan Shifan forced the knife back into her hand, commanding her to either kill her family or herself.

To save Qi and the family line, Min's father tragically committed suicide. Despite this, Yan Shifan showed no mercy, killing Min's mother and Qi. Min collapsed, wailing over the bodies. Yan Shifan declared that she should hate Lu Yi for causing this and that only by following him could she get her revenge, warning her to be obedient or face the same fate.

At the official inn, Lu Yi examined the spring from the mine, noting its quality was far superior to the one in Jinxia's pistol. He explained that if such iron were used for firearms, their power would multiply, making this a crime punishable by the extermination of nine generations. Just then, Xie Xiao arrived and told Jinxia that while Shangguan Xi was safe, Yang Yue was still missing after falling from a cliff.

Distraught, Jinxia insisted on searching for him immediately. As they prepared to leave, Lu Yi received urgent news that the Chunyu family had been massacred. He ordered that coffins be purchased for their funeral and that Min be found. Meanwhile, Jinxia, examining a footprint at the cliff's edge, noted its handmade sole and depth, concluding Yang Yue must have been rescued. She and Xie Xiao set off to find the rescuer. At the Chunyu horse farm, Lu Yi found Min.

She ran to him, calling him "cousin" and collapsing in a feigned state of shock upon hearing of her family's murder. Elsewhere, Yang Yue finally removed his bandages and saw a long, disfiguring scar across his face. Overwhelmed, he broke down, smashing objects in despair.
