As their tense meal concludes, the group's temporary peace is shattered. In the nearby woods, Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue are ambushed by a group of assailants. Simultaneously, the wooden house where Lu Yi, Yuan Jinxia, and Xie Xiao are staying is stormed by more attackers. The masked leader of the assailants gives a chilling order: kill everyone except for the skilled female doctor, Lin Ling.

Inside the house, the Beggar Clan Leader, blaming himself for endangering Lin Ling, tries to escort her to safety. However, she adamantly refuses to leave without her crucial medical books. As the fight intensifies, Lu Yi urges Yuan Jinxia to flee while he and Xie Xiao hold off their enemies, but Xie Xiao insists on protecting her personally. Overwhelmed by the chaos, Jinxia escapes with Xie Xiao.

Meanwhile, during their own desperate flight through the forest, Shangguan Xi is relentlessly pursued to the edge of a cliff and falls. Without a moment's hesitation, Yang Yue leaps after her. With the others gone, Lu Yi single-handedly confronts the masked leader. Nearby, Jinxia, protected by Xie Xiao, urges him to go back and help Lu Yi.

Using her handgun to dispatch their immediate pursuers, Jinxia and Xie Xiao press on into the forest, only to be cornered again by the masked leader and his men. In a miraculous turn of events, a swarm of snakes emerges, frightening the attackers into a retreat. Lin Ling, who has rejoined them, calmly assures a startled Jinxia that the snakes are harmless. With the immediate threat gone, the group realizes Yang Yue and Shangguan Xi are missing.

They follow signs of a struggle to the cliff's edge, concluding the pair must have fallen. Lu Yi decides they must return to Yangzhou to dispatch an official search party. He and Jinxia persuade the Beggar Clan Leader and Lin Ling to accompany them, arguing that Maple Col is no longer safe and Jinxia still requires Lin Ling's care for her lingering illness.

At the bottom of the cliff, Yang Yue awakens to find himself tangled in a tree, with Shangguan Xi lying unconscious on the ground below. Despite an injured arm, he carefully makes his way down to her. He is relieved to find her physically unharmed, but she is trapped in a deep coma, unresponsive to his calls.

Fearing the worst, he confirms she is still breathing and, despite his own injuries and a rising fever, painstakingly gathers wood to build a fire for warmth. The heat gradually rouses Shangguan Xi. Overjoyed, Yang Yue becomes agitated, confessing his terror at the thought of failing to protect her, before his fever overwhelms him and he collapses.

Upon returning to Yangzhou, the group finds a letter from Yang Chengwan, Jinxia's foster father, stating he has gone to visit old friends and telling them to wait at the post house. Worried for his friends, Xie Xiao immediately sends members of the Wu'an Sect to search for Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue. Back at the cliff, an exhausted Shangguan Xi drags the unconscious Yang Yue, reflecting on his selfless bravery.

She is immensely relieved when the Wu'an Sect search party finally finds them. In Yangzhou, Jinxia remains deeply worried about her missing friends. While on the street with Xie Xiao, she spots the masked leader, whom she now knows as Mao Haifeng, in the company of Di Lanye. Jinxia quickly pulls Xie Xiao into hiding to avoid being seen. While Xie Xiao is eager to give chase, Jinxia insists they report their discovery to Lu Yi first.

Xie Xiao protests, arguing that in his territory of Yangzhou, they shouldn't have to defer to Lu Yi for everything. At the same time, Lu Yi receives a letter from his father, Lu Ting, instructing him to investigate a case involving tainted imperial elixir at the Danqing Taoist Temple. He orders his guards to fetch Jinxia for their immediate departure, only to learn she has gone out with Xie Xiao.

As Jinxia rushes to inform Lu Yi, Xie Xiao receives a signal from his men that Yang Yue and Shangguan Xi have been found. Prioritizing her friends' safety, Jinxia heads to the Wu'an Sect with Xie Xiao. Learning of their change in destination, an impatient Lu Yi decides he can wait no longer and orders his men to prepare for the journey to the Danqing Taoist Temple.

At the Wu'an Sect, Jinxia tends to the recovering Yang Yue, teasing him about his ordeal with Shangguan Xi. Yang Yue, concerned for Shangguan Xi's reputation, quickly tells her not to speak so carelessly. Lu Yi arrives at the Danqing Taoist Temple to find it in an uproar, with angry villagers accusing Master Yuanming and his disciples of deception. Lu Yi's guards quickly disperse the crowd.

A Taoist named Lan Qingxuan recognizes Lu Yi as the official sent to escort Master Yuanming to the capital and enthusiastically vouches for Lu Yi's integrity, confident he will ensure the master's safety. Master Yuanming humbly requests a delay to handle his affairs, and Lu Yi grants him one day.

As Lan Qingxuan shows Lu Yi to his room, he expresses surprise that Lu Yi survived such a potent poison, guessing Yuan Jinxia must have suffered greatly to save him, a comment that visibly deepens Lu Yi's contemplative mood. Lan Qingxuan's young apprentice, Xiao Xin, excitedly greets them and immediately asks for Jinxia. Just then, a guard reports that Yuan Jinxia has arrived and is being held at the gate.

After Lu Yi brings her inside, Jinxia realizes Lan Qingxuan, whom she had considered a trickster, is a real Taoist. She relays her critical information about Mao Haifeng and Di Lanye's alliance, earning Lu Yi's praise. When Lan Qingxuan brings them fruit, a playful exchange ensues between him, Jinxia, and a defensive Xie Xiao, who had accompanied her.

Throughout the interaction, Jinxia maintains a respectful, formal demeanor toward Lu Yi, leaving him to wonder if she sees him as nothing more than her superior. Later that night, a piercing scream from Xiao Xin alerts everyone. The boy claims to have witnessed the death of his uncle, a disciple nicknamed "Fatso." However, when they rush to the room, the body has vanished.

Observing the lack of any struggle or drag marks, Jinxia hypothesizes that Fatso might not be dead after all. Taking charge, Lu Yi secretly orders a five-li blockade around the temple, confident the culprit is trapped. Faced with both the elixir case and now a mysterious disappearance, he decides to postpone his return to the capital and remain at the temple to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, at the Wu'an Sect, the Beggar Clan Leader and Lin Ling are changing Yang Yue's bandages when Shangguan Xi arrives with a fresh change of clothes for him. Sensing the moment, the two elders tactfully depart. Left alone, Yang Yue struggles to eat with his non-dominant hand due to his injury. Seeing his difficulty, Shangguan Xi tenderly feeds him, bringing a quiet joy to his heart.
