Lu Yi, demonstrating his sharp intellect, deduced the timing of the tides. He explained that since it was the period of receding water, the path connected to the sea eye would be accessible, providing them with an escape route. Using the principles of the eight-trigram array, specifically the "kan" trigram for water and its symmetric "li" trigram, he pinpointed the two directions where the ancient people might have designed mechanisms for water flow.
Yuan Jinxia and Xie Xiao quickly found the mechanism, leading Lu Yi to identify the sea eye. He then plunged into the water, with Yuan Jinxia, Xie Xiao, and Mr. Beggar following close behind. Meanwhile, Zhai Lanye met with Mr. Mao. She informed him that Lu Yi had already visited Longdan Village. Mr. Mao, confident that Lu Yi could never uncover the secret beneath the Dragon Confining Well, initially dismissed the news.
However, his composure shattered when a subordinate reported that the well had indeed been destroyed. Enraged, Mr. Mao immediately ordered the abandonment of Longdan Village. He commanded that all the madmen be released, the old man who cultivated the Blue Hairpin, Mr. Beggar, be brought to him, and that no one else be left alive. The group emerged from the sea eye into a pool connected to the Dragon Confining Well.
Yuan Jinxia, deeply impressed by Lu Yi's intelligence, expressed her admiration. Mr. Beggar observed Yuan Jinxia's adoration and then asked Xie Xiao if he was fond of her. When Xie Xiao admitted his feelings, Mr. Beggar pointed out that Yuan Jinxia's affection clearly lay with Lu Yi, concluding that they were a perfect match. Elsewhere, the captive Lan Qingxuan was secretly freed by a young girl named Xin.
She warned him that she had witnessed her father and uncles throw a man into the well the previous night and urged him to escape before he was also sacrificed. As Lan Qingxuan fled, he discovered the village under attack by madmen. At the same time, Lu Yi, Yuan Jinxia, and Xie Xiao arrived back in Longdan Village, confronting the chaos.
Lu Yi realized the madmen were being controlled by a whistler and tasked Xie Xiao with holding them off while he dealt with the source. Determined to protect Yuan Jinxia, Xie Xiao refused to leave her side. Seeing the dire situation, Mr. Beggar explained that the madmen identify people by smell. He lit a bundle of Blue Hairpin, instructing everyone to cover their noses and control their breathing, which swiftly incapacitated the attackers.
With the madmen subdued, the villagers, led by Chieftain Shi, questioned how Xie Xiao, whom they had sacrificed, was still alive. Yuan Jinxia compelled Lan Qingxuan to explain. He reluctantly confessed that his pronouncements about curses were fabrications and admitted to misleading them. Mr. Beggar then revealed that the madmen were not cursed but poisoned by a substance called "Blue Hairpin." When he admitted to creating this poison, the villagers erupted in anger, demanding his death.
Mr. Beggar clarified that pirates had trapped him and forced him to produce the poison, insisting he had not administered it to the villagers. He promised to do his best to detoxify them but warned that even if the poison was removed, they would likely remain mentally impaired for life. As a last resort, he spoke of an old friend, a reclusive expert in Maple Col, who might possess a complete cure.
In Yangzhou, Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue were being shunned by the townspeople. A passerby revealed that the Dongs' Sect on the Water had been massacred the previous day, with over a hundred lives lost, and she was being blamed for the brutal act. Rushing back to the Wu'an Sect, Shangguan Xi met members who had been captured by the Dongs' Sect. They thanked her for saving them, yet none had actually seen her during the rescue.
Bewildered, Shangguan Xi told Yang Yue she could not accept the blame for such a heinous crime. Back at his stronghold, Mr. Mao was informed that his greenhouse had been destroyed and the Blue Hairpin had vanished. Furious, he ordered his men to find and kill Lu Yi's group, but to capture the old man, Mr. Beggar, alive. Meanwhile, Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue arrived at the gruesome scene of the massacre.
Zhai Lanye appeared, and Shangguan Xi, sensing a confrontation, asked Yang Yue to step away. Alone, Shangguan Xi accused Zhai Lanye of the murders. Zhai Lanye coldly suggested that Shangguan Xi should be pleased that Dong Qisheng was gone. Shangguan Xi rejected this, declared their friendship over, and tried to apprehend her. As they fought, Shangguan Xi was stunned by Zhai Lanye’s formidable martial arts skills.
Zhai Lanye confessed that meeting Shangguan Xi while disguised as a "lean horse of Yangzhou" had been the happiest time for her, but then insulted her. After a tense exchange, they ceased their combat and parted ways, their relationship severed forever. Suddenly, Mr. Mao arrived at Longdan Village with his men, confronting Lu Yi for destroying his "property," the Dragon Confining Well.
Mr. Mao boasted about the superiority of Japanese mystic arts over Chinese kung fu, which Lu Yi dismissed as a "small Japanese skill." A battle erupted. Lu Yi engaged Mr. Mao directly, instructing Yuan Jinxia and Xie Xiao to protect the villagers. During the fight, Lu Yi wounded Mr. Mao but was stabbed himself while shielding villagers. Seeing Lu Yi injured, Yuan Jinxia fired her pistol, hitting Mr. Mao.
As a poisonous dart flew towards her, Lu Yi blocked it with his own body. Yuan Jinxia immediately pulled the dart out. Wounded, Mr. Mao ordered a retreat, igniting explosives planted throughout the village. In the ensuing chaos, his men seized Mr. Beggar and dragged him away. The village was engulfed in explosions, causing heavy casualties. Xin watched her parents perish in the blasts before Lan Qingxuan scooped her up and fled to safety.
Lu Yi realized with horror that the pirates must have planted the dynamite during their previous attack. Later, Lan Qingxuan and Xin returned to find Longdan Village a desolate wasteland. As Xin frantically searched for her parents in the rubble, Lan Qingxuan held her close, promising to care for her from now on. Yuan Jinxia and Lu Yi located an unconscious but alive Xie Xiao. However, Lu Yi, gravely wounded, was fading fast.
Lan Qingxuan examined him and confirmed he was seriously poisoned by the dart, pointing to the dark, corrupted blood. Anxious, Yuan Jinxia recalled Mr. Beggar's reclusive friend. She gave Lan Qingxuan a token and a task: take Xie Xiao back to the Wu'an Sect, find Yang Yue in Yangzhou to report what happened, and tell him to follow the Department Six marks she would leave to rendezvous with her.
Yuan Jinxia then set off with the ailing Lu Yi to find the expert in Maple Col. Lan Qingxuan brought Xie Xiao and Xin to the Wu'an Sect. Xie Xiao awoke to find Shangguan Xi by his side. After hearing his account, Shangguan Xi proposed reporting the matter to the authorities. Xie Xiao, however, was determined to find Yuan Jinxia himself. Shangguan Xi strongly opposed this, citing the danger.
Frustrated by her overprotectiveness, Xie Xiao confronted her, asking when she would stop treating him like a child. He then confessed his profound love for Yuan Jinxia, stating he could never forgive himself if any harm came to her. Understanding the depth of his feelings, Shangguan Xi relented, allowing him to go.
