Lu Yi struggled to eat the southern-style moistened pancakes Yuan Jinxia had prepared, leading her to tease him about being a picky eater. She shared a story from her childhood, explaining that her adoptive mother chose her from an orphanage because she was the child who ate with the most gusto. Hearing this, Lu Yi recalled learning about her past.

Jinxia then formally revealed her true reason for the dinner: she hoped Lu Yi would use the Embroidered Uniform Guard's vast information network to help find her biological parents, from whom she was separated as a child. Moved by the request, which reminded him of the loss of his own mother, Lu Yi empathized with her.

When Jinxia expressed her gratitude, Lu Yi playfully pointed out that the ingredients were from the official post station, the dishes were cooked by Yang Yue, and the wine was his, questioning her contribution. Jinxia defended herself, claiming she washed the vegetables, cooked several dishes, and rolled the pancakes. She then offered to make him a large pancake with his favorite fillings, turnip and tofu.

When she tried to toast him, Lu Yi stopped her, forbidding her from drinking wine now or in the future because she is a girl. Jinxia protested she had never been drunk, but Lu Yi reminded her of her drunken incident with Xie Xiao, which she dismissed as an accident. As Lu Yi began serving her food, an uncomfortable Jinxia offered to give him a massage or soak his feet, but he repeatedly refused, insisting he needed nothing from her.

Later, Jinxia was delighted to see Yang Chengwan walking without crutches. She excitedly told him that Lu Yi had agreed to help search for her parents. However, Yang Chengwan sternly ordered both Jinxia and Yang Yue to kneel. He berated them for their recklessness in dealing with the Embroidered Uniform Guard, warning that in Lu Yi’s eyes, a lowly constable like Jinxia was "no different from a dog" and accused her of shamelessly trying to social climb.

Deeply hurt, Jinxia protested that she had done nothing wrong. Softening his tone, Yang Chengwan explained he was afraid she would get hurt, advising her to "respect and stay away" from a man of Lu Yi's high status. He concluded by saying he had his own plans to find her parents. After being promoted to Assistant of the Upper Fourth Rank for recovering the stolen silver, Lu Yi decided to extend their stay in Yangzhou to enjoy the scenery.

He was noticeably displeased to learn that Jinxia and Yang Yue had gone to the Wu'an Sect. There, Jinxia and Yang Yue discovered that the Dongs' Sect on the Water had forcibly occupied the wharf. Rushing to the scene, they found Dong Qisheng proposing a marriage alliance with the Wu'an Sect to control all local shipping. Master Xie angrily rebuked him for betraying his grandfather's principles, but Dong Qisheng mocked him and flirted with Shangguan Xi.

Enraged, Xie Xiao attacked Dong Qisheng. The dispute was interrupted by Mr. Wei, a local official, who ordered them to settle the matter that day. Dong Qisheng proposed a martial arts competition for control of the wharf, which Master Xie accepted, despite Xie Xiao’s furious objections. Jinxia, sensing a trap, told Yang Yue to watch Dong Qisheng for foul play while she sought a solution. After being persuaded by Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue, Xie Xiao agreed to compete.

Before the match, Dong Qisheng tricked Master Xie into drinking a bowl of wine as a supposed martial arts tradition. Meanwhile, Jinxia pleaded with Lu Yi for help, explaining that Dong Qisheng was a cruel man who would oppress the people and might even collude with Japanese pirates if he won control of the wharf. Lu Yi coldly refused to get involved, and Jinxia left in a huff.

At the competition, Master Xie and other Wu'an Sect members collapsed with stomach pains, having been poisoned with a laxative. Xie Xiao, Shangguan Xi, Yang Yue, and Jinxia had to fight in their place. Lu Yi arrived and observed, noting that the man fighting Jinxia was a wanted criminal. The Wu'an Sect was quickly disadvantaged; Yang Yue and Shangguan Xi were pushed out of the designated area and disqualified, and Xie Xiao was injured by a hidden weapon.

Just as Jinxia was about to be defeated, Lu Yi joined the fight as the Wu'an Sect's fifth member. Dong Qisheng protested, but Master Xie argued that the rules didn't specify when the fifth member had to appear. With Lu Yi's intervention, Xie Xiao managed to secure victory.

When Dong Qisheng furiously accused them of cheating by using an outsider, Lu Yi revealed that his men were actually wanted criminals known as the Wu brothers, whom he was there to arrest. This silenced Dong Qisheng, and the Wu'an Sect regained the wharf. Master Xie profusely thanked Lu Yi, who maintained that his only goal was to capture the fugitives, telling a smiling Jinxia not to overthink his actions.

Later, Jinxia visited the injured Xie Xiao, who dramatically exaggerated his pain and insisted she apply his medicine. As she treated his wounds, he screamed in agony, but she told him to endure it. Afterward, he grabbed her hand to confess his feelings, but Jinxia cut him off and left. Undeterred, Xie Xiao shouted from his room, "Yuan Jinxia, I like you! I will marry you!"

Shangguan Xi overheard this and, in a fit of rage, stormed into her room and began smashing things, accidentally hitting Yang Yue, who had followed her. Refusing to dodge the blow, Yang Yue offered her medicine for a cut on her hand and told her he was willing to be her emotional outlet if it made her feel better.
