Till the End of the Moon Episode 6 Recap
> Till the End of the Moon Recap
Ye Xiwu agreed to teach Tantai Jin how to draw charms but refused to teach him any lethal ones, reminding him that because of his name, she would never teach him spells that could kill. Instead, she chose to teach him the "Jiansheng" charm, explaining that it allowed one's spirit to wander the world even when confined to a small space, and that she had learned it from an immortal when she was a child.
Tantai Jin initially scoffed at the idea, calling monastic practices aimless, but Ye Xiwu patiently explained the profound concept of unifying the body, heart, and mind to cultivate an internal elixir. She described the "Heartless Way" as a path to understanding the universe and all life by eliminating desires and hatred, a path Tantai Jin agreed to follow.
Li Susu, inhabiting Ye Xiwu’s body, privately observed that Tantai Jin lacked immortal bones and would never achieve immortality, yet hoped he would at least avoid becoming a demon. Despite Ye Xiwu’s guidance, Tantai Jin’s initial attempts at the "Jiansheng" charm failed. Ye Xiwu explained that success required a pure mind, free of distractions and especially evil thoughts. As Tantai Jin diligently practiced, Ye Xiwu, exhausted, fell asleep. He woke her, demanding she continue teaching him.
Frustrated by his relentless study, Ye Xiwu used a binding spell to make him rest, telling him he would die if he didn't sleep. She held him, and as she drifted off, she murmured about "liking" him and wanting him to live. Observing her in his embrace, Tantai Jin unexpectedly grasped the charm's true meaning. He successfully activated the "Jiansheng" charm, conjuring a breathtaking vision of the universe. Meanwhile, the Sheng King investigated the chaos at Xiao Rin’s wedding.
Learning that the attacking "Blood Crows" were linked to the Jing Kingdom's royal totem, the Three-legged Crow, and that Tantai Jin, a Jing hostage prince, was present, he grew suspicious. Whispers that the Yiyue Tribe, Tantai Jin's maternal tribe, could communicate with and control birds fueled his paranoia. Concluding that Tantai Jin was a cunning and dangerous threat, the Sheng King secretly ordered his assassination.
News reached the King that General Ye’s second son, Ye Qingyu, was returning from the border, a young talent whose reputation even surpassed his father’s. Upon his return, Ye Qingyu was welcomed by cheering crowds and then met his family. He noticed Ye Xiwu’s absence from the family dinner. His father and grandmother attempted to make excuses, but Ye Qingyu asserted that Ye Xiwu’s behavior reflected on the entire Ye family.
He cited her infamous reputation from his time at the border, including mistreating servants, harming Ye Bingchang, and her "muddleheaded" marriage after a scandalous incident in the palace. When his elder brother, Ye Zeyu, complained about Ye Xiwu abandoning them during the blood crow attack to save her husband, Ye Qingyu defended her actions, questioning his brother's own lack of protective instinct.
Concerned that no one had properly guided Ye Xiwu in his absence, Ye Qingyu went to check on her. He found her asleep with Tantai Jin and, angered by the sight, turned and left. Ye Xiwu was later summoned to the ancestral hall. Ye Qingyu reprimanded her for disrespecting their elders by missing dinner, for being impolite by not greeting him upon his return, and for the "shameful act" of engaging in "licentious acts in broad daylight" with her husband.
He expressed his shame for the Ye family’s honor and punished her to kneel for the time it took an incense stick to burn for introspection. Chuntao later informed Ye Xiwu that General Ye disliked formal procedures, leading the family to appoint the diligent Ye Qingyu as the family supervisor. When Chuntao mentioned Ye Qingyu had gone to speak with Tantai Jin, Ye Xiwu, fearing for Tantai Jin's safety, rushed to their living quarters.
Ye Qingyu apologized to Tantai Jin for Ye Xiwu’s past misbehavior and invited him to future family meals. He also requested that Tantai Jin restrain Ye Xiwu’s "unruly conduct" to avoid future "shameful acts." Hearing Tantai Jin utter a spell, Ye Qingyu, who had cultivated in Xiaoyao Sect for three years, recognized the act and suspected Tantai Jin of orchestrating the chaos at Xiao Rin’s wedding. Tantai Jin denied it, claiming Ye Qingyu misheard.
Ye Qingyu pressed further, highlighting Tantai Jin’s uninjured state during the crow attack and the coincidence with Jing Kingdom’s crow totem. Tantai Jin sarcastically suggested Ye Qingyu's imagination was wasted on military service. Ye Qingyu then offered to perform a "Bone Inspect" spell to discern Tantai Jin's true nature, but Tantai Jin refused. Just as the tension escalated, Ye Xiwu arrived. She quickly vouched for Tantai Jin, explaining they were together during the crow attack and he nearly died.
She took responsibility for the spell-casting, claiming she had learned simple charms from Scholar Pang due to the city's demonic disturbances and was teaching them to Tantai Jin out of boredom. She admitted Tantai Jin was "so dumb" that he struggled with them, necessitating their secret practice. Ye Qingyu accepted her explanation, apologized for his suspicions, and reiterated his invitation for Tantai Jin to join their family meals, emphasizing that as family, he shouldn’t eat alone.
Ye Xiwu later discovered that Ye Qingyu’s "Bone Inspect" was merely a bluff, much to Tantai Jin’s relief, who had been genuinely scared. Separately, Xiao Rin invited Ye Qingyu to catch up. Scholar Pang realized they were fellow disciples from Xiaoyao Sect. Ye Qingyu expressed concern about the world’s stability after hearing of Tantai Wuji’s sudden death and Tantai Minglang’s succession, fearing the new king’s suspicious and hot-tempered nature would bring chaos and suffering to the common people.
He longed for a unified, peaceful world. Scholar Pang performed a divination, revealing that the individual destined to end the conflicts and unify the world was currently in the Sheng Capital. Ye Qingyu then learned his elder brother, Ye Zeyu, had borrowed money and gone to a gambling house. He rushed there to confront him. Inside, Ye Zeyu was losing badly to Pian Ran. Noticing Ye Qingyu’s arrival, Pian Ran deliberately lost a round.
As the crowd clamored for her to strip, Pian Ran began to remove her clothes, but Ye Qingyu quickly covered her with his cloak. He reprimanded Ye Zeyu, ordering him back to the ancestral hall to receive family discipline. As Ye Qingyu left, Pian Ran called out to him. Seeing her face, he felt she looked familiar. Back at the mansion, Tantai Jin reflected on his temporary demonic powers, realizing their fleeting nature and the insatiable thirst for more.
He understood that relying solely on devouring demons was unsustainable and that Ye Qingyu’s power was something to be wary of. He needed a new source of demonic power, and the upcoming New Year's festival, with its bustling, diverse crowds, seemed an ideal opportunity for "hunting" for demons without Ye Xiwu's constant supervision. To his surprise, Ye Xiwu asked him to join her for New Year's shopping.
He readily agreed, seeing it as a perfect chance to find new demonic sources. As they strolled through the vibrant market, Ye Xiwu observed Tantai Jin’s wide-eyed wonder, realizing he had never experienced such a lively festival. " You won't melt in the sun," she playfully remarked, suggesting he needed more exposure to the outside world, otherwise he'd "become a freak" confined to his room.
She bought two mud whistles, explaining they were common childhood toys, and noting that Tantai Jin, having "lived like a prisoner since he was a child," likely never had any. She insisted on buying him one, feigning that it was for him when she herself desired one. While shopping, they spotted Ye Qingyu accompanying Pian Ran, who was making him pay off his brother's gambling debt. She intentionally bought a lipstick and asked Ye Qingyu to apply it for her.
Ye Xiwu was utterly surprised by the sight. Tantai Jin, however, sensed Pian Ran’s true demonic nature and secretly pondered how to extract her demonic elixir for his own use. Ye Xiwu continued her shopping, buying new clothes for her grandmother, father, and brothers. She also thoughtfully selected several new outfits for Tantai Jin, who felt a strange sensation knowing she knew his measurements so well.
On their way home, they encountered an old woman selling firecrackers in the bitter cold. Moved by compassion, Ye Xiwu bought all the firecrackers from her. Tantai Jin, ever the pragmatist, pointed out that her single act of kindness wouldn't alleviate the woman’s endless suffering. Seeing Ye Xiwu's crestfallen expression, he softened his tone and offered a small comfort: "At least she gets to go home earlier to celebrate New Year's Eve today."
