The Psychologist Episode 32 Recap
> The Psychologist Recap
He Dun informed Qian Kaiyi that Yao Kexin’s submitted documents contained a clear and complete data collection process, patient authorization forms, and certificates from a neurotherapeutic treatment facility. He Dun noted that these materials perfectly addressed their previous concerns about her thesis data, indicating Yao Kexin was well-prepared and had anticipated their every move.
During the confrontation, Yao Kexin asserted that there was no data fraud in her thesis and challenged Ji Mingcong to provide evidence for his claims, dismissing his accusations as ridiculous. Ji Mingcong clarified that he was not doubting the data's authenticity, as all the clinical data in the thesis was personally recorded by him during his treatments with the visitor.
He highlighted that while the thesis contained extensive clinical data, it notably lacked any assessment of the client-counselor relationship from the visitor's perspective. Yao Kexin defended herself by stating that the paper was written from a different angle, which, in her opinion, didn't indicate any issues. Ji Mingcong further argued that Yao Kexin's thesis failed to mention the screening process he used to obtain the data, specifically how he excluded co-morbid diagnoses like anxiety disorder and substance abuse.
He claimed this omission proved she had not personally participated in the experiment and, given her current clinical experience, was incapable of handling a complex case like Bipolar Disorder Type-I. Yao Kexin defiantly asked how he could be so certain of her capabilities. Feeling cornered, she then played a pre-prepared video showing a woman in a red dress painting, declaring that this woman was 'F', her subject mentioned in the thesis.
He Dun recognized "F" as the research subject from her senior sister Li Yun's thesis. She asked Yao Kexin for the video's filming date. Yao Kexin vaguely recalled it being last summer in City H but couldn't specify the exact date, explaining that F had been involved in the project for over a hundred hours of filming. She was, however, certain F had worn that red dress during a visit.
He Dun then asserted that Yao Kexin's thesis indeed involved stealing another person's clinical data, and the proof was in the video itself. She requested the video be played again. Yao Kexin, increasingly flustered, asked for an adjournment, and then secretly messaged someone for help. After the break, He Dun amplified the audio from Yao Kexin's video, revealing the distinct sound of a pigeon flute.
She explained that pigeon flutes are typically heard in Jingbei City, and their presence in a video supposedly filmed in City H last summer was suspicious. He Dun pointed out that the pigeon flute's sound was conspicuously segmented, especially when Yao Kexin spoke or when her surname "Yao" was mentioned by the patient, suggesting audio manipulation.
Yao Kexin, unable to explain, then dramatically began reading a letter of repentance, confessing to a grave mistake that violated the ethics of a psychology practitioner, expressing shame for her actions and for betraying the trust of the recipient's parents, and revealing a deep, long-held affection for the recipient. Ji Mingcong, enraged, rushed in and demanded she stop reading, before collapsing on stage due to a relapse of his old illness.
He Dun rushed to his aid, and with Qian Kaiyi's help, they laid him down. After recovering, Ji Mingcong, though reluctant to expose his patient's information, admitted the repentance letter was indeed in his handwriting. He confessed the hearing was a mere facade and Yao Kexin was a pawn in a larger scheme rooted in past grievances, which he hadn't wanted He Dun to be entangled in.
When He Dun asked about the letter's recipient, Ji Mingcong only reiterated his promise to someone not to mention anything about her. A disheartened He Dun left the room. Qian Kaiyi found her distracted. She lamented that Professor Ji wouldn't confide in her, making it difficult to help. Qian Kaiyi comforted her, offering a shoulder massage and asserting that Professor Ji likely withheld information to protect her.
He expressed his belief that Professor Ji wouldn't violate professional ethics, suggesting the letter was likely written to a patient, albeit with strong emotional undertones, signifying his pain and struggle. He encouraged her to accept that no one is perfect and that even trusted individuals can have their reasons for difficult choices. This significantly brightened He Dun's spirits. They then headed home together.
Late that night, Ye Jiahui confronted his father, Ye Jicheng, demanding to know why he had given Yao Kexin the letter in addition to the videotape, questioning if the tape wasn't sufficient. Ye Jicheng, however, believed the more sensational the situation, the better. Ye Jiahui angrily threw an object, stating that his father's actions had exposed "her" to everyone. Ye Jicheng retorted by telling his son to ask Fu Tang directly why she abandoned him.
Enraged, Ye Jiahui declared he was disowning his father, ending their volatile discussion with a promise that this was "the end" and they would no longer contact each other if unnecessary. Ye Jicheng warned him that once a path is taken, there's no turning back and he would regret his decision.
Back home, He Dun tearfully confided in her mother, expressing her fears that the truth about Professor Ji might not be what she imagined and that he was keeping secrets. She discussed how Qian Kaiyi's words about human imperfection made her realize that trusting someone doesn't mean they are flawless. He Dun pondered whether to intervene in Professor Ji's situation or let it go, explaining her desire for her esteemed teacher and father figure to remain unblemished.
Her mother, while supportive, advised against forcing others to disclose everything and reaffirmed her unconditional support, regardless of He Dun's decision. He Dun remarked that her mother's comforting words were more effective than her boyfriend's. It was then her mother learned that He Dun's boyfriend was Qian Kaiyi and reacted with delight. The next morning, Lili, wearing one of He Dun's shirts, announced her intention to become a "good citizen."
She revealed her newfound admiration for the police officer Jin, whom she met at the station, expressing a desire to pursue what she truly likes, thanking He Dun for her past guidance, and offering to do a week's worth of chores in gratitude for He Dun's clothing advice. Qian Kaiyi arrived, and He Dun, after playfully teasing Lili, left with him.
He Dun declared her plan to produce a special program about Yao Kexin, believing it crucial to offer the public more perspectives. Qian Kaiyi expressed his reservations, warning about the media's power to twist narratives and that all criticism would fall on her. He stressed that audiences often prioritize the speaker's identity over the content.
He Dun, however, was resolute, explaining she also wanted to ease the pressure on her colleagues at "Night Talk to Your Heart" and was serious about the topic. Later, Lili visited Jin at the police station, bringing him a homemade lunchbox and coffee, claiming it was an errand. Jin, as a public official, refused to accept it during work hours, jokingly accusing her of bribery. Lili persisted, arguing that "wasting food is a crime."
Jin, finding her amusing and different, eventually made her leave but then ate the lunch. Meanwhile, Wen He participated in an episode of "Time Interview" hosted by Wang Zhuo, discussing the professional nature of psychological counselors and campus sexual assault. Wen He explained the "three-year rule," stating that counselors and clients should not develop intimate relationships within three years post-counseling. She clarified it's not merely a rule but a fundamental ethical principle.
She further emphasized that professional counselors must avoid dual relationships during and after counseling, and even after three years, any new relationship requires careful examination of its nature and the counselor's professionalism. After He Dun's program aired, public opinion overwhelmingly accused her of trying to gain popularity from the controversy. He Dun felt misunderstood and realized that those targeting Professor Ji had not given up; instead, they had redirected their attacks towards her.
Lili tried to comfort He Dun, dismissing the online comments as baseless rumors and affirming her unwavering support. He Dun, however, recognized that this was a deliberate tactic to discredit her, knowing that if she were defeated, it would be a greater blow to Professor Ji. She decided against directly confronting the media, believing it would only worsen the situation, and opted to patiently wait for her opponents to reveal their full plan.
Ye Jiahui sought out Professor Ji, demanding to know his mother, Fu Tang's, whereabouts. Professor Ji, unwilling to disturb Fu Tang, refused to disclose her location, citing her emotional instability and need for quiet recuperation. Enraged by the refusal, Ye Jiahui violently pushed Professor Ji. Rumors circulated within the station that Wang Zhuo's "Time Interview" with Wen He was performing well, leading to speculation that Director Pan intended to replace He Dun with Wen He.
Qian Kaiyi, hearing this, confronted Director Pan, who stated no final decision had been made. Wang Zhuo fanned the flames, suggesting Pan's actions were for the show's benefit and accusing Qian Kaiyi of disrupting the director. Qian Kaiyi then accused Wang Zhuo of plagiarism, noting that his show's guest and topics were identical to "Night Talk to Your Heart."
Wang Zhuo claimed he only took the campus sexual assault topic after Qian Kaiyi rejected it, then revealed he later re-proposed it to Director Pan. Director Pan interjected, admitting she had instructed Wang Zhuo to proceed, questioning Qian Kaiyi if he valued his own opinions over the station's and if he had cherished the opportunities she gave him.
Qian Kaiyi, challenging Wang Zhuo, asserted that the success of his show was due to "Night Talk to Your Heart's" format, not necessarily Wen He's popularity. He then proposed a challenge: he and Wang Zhuo would each produce an episode on the same topic, and the one with higher viewership would win.
