Lu Zhaoyao defied her grandfather to enter the world, she learned about the sects' plan to execute the Demon King's son, Li Chenlan. Despite knowing the dangers, she decided to rescue him, believing he was innocent. Meanwhile, on his deathbed, the chief of Dust Pavilion entrusted the future of the pavilion to his successor, Qin Qianxian, reminding him of the principle that "the wise fears the cause, the fool fears the outcome." Qin Qianxian promised to uphold his teachings.
His master advised him to seek clarity in the Ice Cavern of Mount Su if he ever faced inner turmoil. Elsewhere, Luo Mingxuan convened a meeting with other sect leaders, apologizing for his failure to eliminate the son of the Demon King. He explained that he had been injured while trapped in a seal left by the Demon King, Li Xiu, on Sealed Evil Mountain.
Lady Changyu (Suruo), expressed concern that Lu Zhaoyao, whom she called a "silly little girl," had intervened and rescued the son of the Demon King. She questioned Lu Zhaoyao's origins and suspected a resurgence of the Demonic Sect. Luo Mingxuan countered, stating that Lu Zhaoyao had cared for him while he recuperated on Sealed Evil Mountain, and he believed her actions were unintentional. However, Lady Changyu remained suspicious, suggesting Lu Zhaoyao might be the mountain's guardian and intentionally protecting him.
The leaders agreed that their priority was to eliminate the son of the Demon King and capture Lu Zhaoyao if she resisted. Luo Mingxuan volunteered to question her. Before this meeting, Lu Zhaoyao met a young boy being bullied. She intervened and named him Mo Qing. She taught him how to fight back against bullies, advising him to target their eyes, throat, and groin.
Lu Zhaoyao expressed her desire to find Luo Mingxuan, whom she admired, and to establish her own benevolent sect where disciples would cultivate the land and change the world's perception of them. Mo Qing expressed his desire to join, and Lu Zhaoyao promised he would be her right-hand man. She then left Mo Qing and departed to find Luo Mingxuan. Lu Zhaoyao arrived at the sect and announced her presence, intending to see Luo Mingxuan.
She was brought before the assembled leaders and confronted them about bullying Mo Qing. Luo Mingxuan demanded to know the whereabouts of the son of the Demon King. Lu Zhaoyao defended Mo Qing, stating he had done nothing wrong. Luo Mingxuan argued that Mo Qing would threaten the world if left unchecked. Lu Zhaoyao, disillusioned, declared that Luo Mingxuan was different from the person she thought she knew.
When she attempted to leave, Luo Mingxuan ordered her capture until she revealed the demon's son's location. Imprisoned, Lu Zhaoyao was visited by Lady Changyu, who proclaimed herself Luo Mingxuan's fiancée and taunted Lu Zhaoyao. Lady Changyu asserted that they would find and kill the Demon King's son regardless. Lu Zhaoyao refused to reveal Mo Qing's location, believing she had done nothing wrong by saving an innocent boy. Luo Mingxuan prepared to inflict more severe punishment on Lu Zhaoyao.
However, Lu Zhaoyao's grandfather arrived to rescue her. He was killed by Luo Mingxuan, but used a teleportation spell to send Lu Zhaoyao to safety. Witnessing her grandfather's murder, Lu Zhaoyao swore vengeance against Luo Mingxuan, transforming her affection into hatred. Escaping, Lu Zhaoyao collapsed by a cliffside, consumed by grief and anger. She vowed to kill Luo Mingxuan and establish a new sect to oppose the Immortal Sects.
Returning to the mountain cave, Lu Zhaoyao found Mo Qing waiting for her. Learning that he had waited for a month, she realized the gravity of her actions. She declared Luo Mingxuan her enemy and announced her intention to establish the Wanlu Sect, a force for "slaughter." Over the next five years, Lu Zhaoyao built the Wanlu Sect, becoming a feared "Demoness." She consolidated her power, sealed Luo Mingxuan, and gathered followers who resented the Immortal Sects.
The impending appearance of the Wanjun Sword stirred desires, including Lu Zhaoyao's. The Immortal Sects planned an ambush near the sword's emergence. Lady Changyu insisted on eliminating Lu Zhaoyao, blaming her for Luo Mingxuan's downfall and her own loss. She visited the sealed Luo Mingxuan and devised a plan to lure Lu Zhaoyao to the Sword Tomb, aiming to avenge Luo Mingxuan. Lu Zhaoyao, fearless, disregarded the threat, knowing the Wanjun Sword was crucial to attracting more demon followers and solidifying her authority.
