Whispers of Fate Episode 4 Recap
> Whispers of Fate Recap
Jiang Qingyu ambushed the imposter Wind-Borne Fragrance at the Floating Sinking Land of the Thirteen Towers, intending to kill him. Jiang Qingyu confessed his scheme to use Jiangcheng's death to frame Jiangcheng's father and usurp the sect leader position, only for the imposter to interfere with his plans. Chi Yun intervened to protect the imposter, drawing Jiang Qingyu's ire, who declared them all "hell-bent on dying" and ordered his men to attack.
As the fight escalated, Zhong Chunji also joined to assist Chi Yun. They soon realized Jiang Qingyu had bought off the entire place, turning it into a mist formation. Jiang Qingyu had made a pact with the Tower Lord, exchanging all his wealth for this opportunity. The imposter Wind-Borne Fragrance, claiming to have mastered the Magnolia Sword Intent which allows him to trace air currents, guided them through the confusing maze.
Meanwhile, Jiang Qingyu taunted them, proclaiming that they would soon be buried there, and no one would ever investigate Jiangcheng's death. The imposter then declared that the Floating Sinking Land was about to sink and urged everyone to follow him out. Suddenly, Tang Lici appeared, having used Jiangcheng's wild goose to track them. He had already bound Jiang Qingyu, exposing his villainy in poisoning Jiangcheng, swayed by Liu Yan’s deceit.
As the imposter frantically tried to lead them to an exit, Tang Lici stopped him. Tang Lici declared he trusted the true Wind-Borne Fragrance, but not the man before them. He then revealed the shocking truth: the real Wind-Borne Fragrance had died six months prior, tragically killed by Jiangcheng during a poison-induced hallucination on the night he disappeared. Exposed, the imposter conceded, acknowledging Tang Lici as the Honored Master's formidable enemy.
The imposter then formally introduced himself as Hua Wuyan, the Flower Messenger. Jiang Qingyu, still bound, furiously reminded Hua Wuyan of their deal: if Hua Wuyan lured Tang Lici and his companions to their deaths, Jiang Qingyu would be helped to become the leader of Yanmen. Hua Wuyan dismissed him and questioned Tang Lici about when he first realized the deception.
Tang Lici recalled that Hua Wuyan did not recognize a significant jade pendant or a specific poem, a clear sign. He meticulously explained the entire scheme, orchestrated by the Honored Master (Liu Yan) through the Hao Mansion case and Jiang Qingyu's greed, all to corner Tang Lici. Tang Lici scoffed at Liu Yan's "clumsy" tricks, asserting his sole purpose was to find Liu Yan, and everything else was meaningless.
As Tang Lici demanded to be taken to Liu Yan, Hua Wuyan’s inner twin, Cao Wufang, suddenly emerged and stabbed Tang Lici in the chest. Believing it to be a fatal blow, Cao Wufang was stunned when Tang Lici called him "stupid," as his "vajra unbreaking body" had already begun to heal. Cao Wufang remarked on Tang Lici’s monstrous nature, echoing the Honored Master's view that it was fitting for "monsters to fight monsters."
Hua Wuyan and Cao Wufang reported back to their Honored Master, Liu Yan, relaying Tang Lici's defiant message: "Tell Liu Yan, he can't kill me with such little skill. I'm the best in the world. If he wants to end the feud, let him come himself." They also passed on the next instruction: Tang Lici should follow the trail of the "Evil Pill" to find him.
Upon learning of Tang Lici's miraculous survival, Liu Yan reflected on his own past, recalling when a kind man named Fang Zhou found him as a boy and gave him a home at Zhou Di Tower. Meanwhile, A Shui found Tang Lici and tried to tend to his injury. Dismissing her compassion as unnecessary for a monster like himself, Tang Lici insisted his wounds healed on their own and called Jiangcheng and Wind-Borne Fragrance "fools" for their avoidable fates.
A Shui gently argued that he was not a monster, but he challenged her to stop his wounds from healing if she truly believed that. He then revealed the reason for Liu Yan's hatred: he had killed Fang Zhou. The full, tragic truth was then revealed. A year prior, Jiang Qingyu had secretly poisoned Jiangcheng with the Nine-Hearts Scarlet Ghost Pill.
Wind-Borne Fragrance, discovering this, tried to secretly administer antidotes, but a misunderstanding, fueled by a poison-induced hallucination, led Jiangcheng to fatally wound him. To spare Jiangcheng the guilt, the dying Wind-Borne Fragrance silently departed to die alone. Jiangcheng, awakening to his friend's disappearance and tormented by the Evil Pill's toxicity, spent his remaining days fruitlessly seeking a truth he would never find.
Tang Lici mused that Jiangcheng's death was a blessing, saving him from the pain of knowing he killed his friend and from becoming a monster controlled by the pill. Having learned the truth from A Shui, Jiangcheng's father confronted Tang Lici, offering to sacrifice an arm as atonement. Tang Lici refused, advising Jiang's father to keep his arm, as it would be more useful in the martial world now rife with evil.
Filled with remorse, Jiang's father pledged Yanmen's full support to their cause. Liu Yan's next plot unfolded in a bustling marketplace, where a man from the Ranqing Sect, suffering from the Nine-Hearts Scarlet Ghost Pill, caused a commotion. He blamed Tang Lici and a "demon girl in red" named Little Red for forcing his sect to consume the pill, leading to their demise.
Xi Tan of Camellia Island intervened, and her skill was praised by the legendary Master Puzhu, who also publicly named Tang Lici as the culprit. With the Hao Mansion case officially closed, Zhong Chunji, with Jiang's father's cooperation, prepared to escort Jiang Qingyu to the Central Plains Sword Assembly for trial. A Shui reaffirmed her commitment to stay by Tang Lici's side.
As they were about to depart, Sword King Yu arrived with a large retinue and imperiously demanded the handover of Jiang Qingyu. Chi Yun boldly challenged the Sword King's arrogance, daring him to strike him. He bet that he could withstand a blow even with his back turned.
As Sword King Yu accepted the challenge and prepared to attack, Tang Lici suddenly appeared, effortlessly blocking the blow and saving Chi Yun, much to Chi Yun's playful annoyance at having his spotlight stolen.
