Xia Jie met her aunt, who had arranged a quiet spot for them. Xia Jie apologized for her mother troubling her aunt, but her aunt waved it off, reminiscing about how much the family cherished her mother as the youngest sibling. Her aunt then revealed that a man named Liang Wei, who used to be Xia Jie's father's disciple and partner, had gone to Qingdao to see her mother.

Her aunt observed that her mother seemed happy with Liang Wei, who was now divorced with his child living with his ex-wife. When asked for her opinion, Xia Jie said that Liang Wei had always been kind to her and her mother, and she would support her mother's decision to remarry, seeing it as a positive step for her mother to have someone to care for her.

Zhang Zhijie and Zhao Jiwei responded to a theft case in an old residential community. On their way, they observed seven young to middle-aged men pushing tricycles, one of whom had numerous scars on his back and stomach, piquing Zhang Zhijie's suspicion. At the community, the security guard explained that thefts were frequent because the community lacked surveillance cameras; over half of the residents hadn't paid property fees, leaving no funds for installation.

Zhang Zhijie decided to design a low-cost surveillance system for the community, but Zhao Jiwei questioned if this was their responsibility. Zhang Zhijie then tasked Zhao Jiwei with investigating local phone shops for clues about a stolen new phone, having already sent him a list of addresses and contacts via text. Chen Xincheng and Li Dawei investigated another theft case.

Finding no immediate clues at the scene, Li Dawei suspected an inside job and impulsively collected fingerprints from the shop owner and employees. Chen Xincheng reprimanded him for his rashness, explaining that without concrete evidence, such an action was premature. As they left, Chen Xincheng spotted his daughter, Jia, with a man. He called out to her, but Jia quickly grabbed the man's hand, hailed a taxi, and sped away, leaving Chen Xincheng furious.

Meanwhile, Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu were looking into a string of electric bike thefts in a different community. They found that recent demolition of roadside shops had led to the removal of all surveillance cameras along that route, creating a blind spot for thieves. Cao Jianjun also addressed a resident about the dangers and legal penalties of charging electric bikes using private, illegally run wires, stressing that even seemingly minor issues can have significant consequences.

Zhao Jiwei reported back to Zhang Zhijie that his inquiries at several phone shops had yielded no useful leads. Meanwhile, Zhang Zhijie continued his investigation into the community theft, learning from the security guard that seven young to middle-aged men had been group-renting a fifth-floor apartment in Building 5 for about three months, often going out early and returning late with tricycles. Zhang Zhijie appreciated the guard's observation skills, even suggesting he apply for an auxiliary police position.

Having meticulously planned the camera placements, Zhang Zhijie concluded that just five cameras would provide full coverage for the entire community at minimal cost, far more effective than continuous patrols. He advised the security guard to discuss this with the property management and seek his help if needed. Zhang Zhijie then informed Zhao Jiwei that the suspect in the phone theft case had gone to Xianfu Street, adding that he had already contacted neighboring police stations.

The Xianfu Street police had a lead: a phone shop owner was detaining a man trying to sell a new phone, claiming he needed to verify its authenticity. Zhang Zhijie had arranged for the Xianfu Street police to apprehend the suspect. Eager to make a contribution, Zhao Jiwei pleaded with Zhang Zhijie to let him participate in the arrest, emphasizing his lack of experience with "genuine" cases since joining.

Zhang Zhijie reluctantly agreed, but sternly warned Zhao Jiwei to "say less and do less," especially in an unfamiliar environment, to avoid causing complications. Upon arriving at the Xianfu Street Police Station, Zhao Jiwei was greeted by Chief Zeng, who noted his eager attitude. Zhao Jiwei was then instructed by a captain to change into plain clothes before they proceeded to stake out the phone shop. As they waited near the shop, the suspect eventually arrived and entered.

Zhao Jiwei, eager to apprehend him, was restrained by the captain, who revealed that police officers were already positioned inside the shop. The plan was to let the suspect complete the transaction and then follow him to his hideout. However, after the suspect received money for the phone and exited the shop, Zhao Jiwei impulsively rushed forward, shouting "Police!" and tackled the man. The suspect resisted violently, pulling out a knife and slashing Zhao Jiwei's arm.

Despite the injury, Zhao Jiwei managed to subdue him, but during the struggle, the suspect threw the phone into a nearby river. The captain accompanied Zhao Jiwei to get his wound dressed.

There, Zhao Jiwei learned the full extent of his mistake: his unauthorized action had jeopardized the case, as they now only had proof that the man sold a phone that wasn't his, but no direct evidence that it was stolen, especially since the suspect claimed he "picked it up." He was deeply regretful that his eagerness had ruined their careful planning.

Zhao Jiwei insisted on bringing the criminal suspect back to the Balihe Police Station, and Chief Zeng of Xianfu Street reluctantly agreed, though not without a taunt about future competitions between their stations. However, the suspect complained of feeling unwell and was sent for a medical check-up before being transported. Zhao Jiwei was eventually sent back to Balihe with the suspect, expecting a hero's welcome. To his dismay, no one was there to greet him, leaving him feeling profoundly disappointed.

Meanwhile, Li Dawei and Yang Shu discussed the ongoing electric bike theft cases. Inspired by shared bikes, Li Dawei proposed a solution: integrating GPS tracking into residents' electric bikes through a partnership with charging pile companies. He acknowledged that residents might be reluctant to pay for GPS, preferring to use unsafe private wiring for charging. After brainstorming, they devised a plan: charging pile companies would offer free GPS installation for electric bikes to residents who purchased charging cards.

Li Dawei mentioned that he had a classmate working for a charging pile company who was struggling to meet sales targets, making them likely to accept the partnership. He offered to contact his classmate to initiate discussions. Later, Li Dawei received a call from his mother urging him to come home for dinner, but he politely declined, citing his busy work schedule with multiple ongoing cases.

Zhao Jiwei reported his capture to Wang Shouyi, who first inquired about his injured arm. Gao Chao then severely reprimanded Zhao Jiwei for his insubordination at Xianfu Street, emphasizing the critical importance of unified action and following orders during police operations, and questioning his self-perception as a hero. Wang Shouyi intervened, instructing Gao Chao and Zhang Zhijie to interrogate the suspect.

Zhao Jiwei vehemently demanded to participate, arguing that he had been following the case from the start and his injury was minor. Wang Shouyi, after some hesitation, allowed him to join. Later, Cao Jianjun reported on the electric bike theft cases, explaining that the ongoing road construction had led to the removal of surveillance cameras, allowing thieves to escape easily. He suggested contacting the construction team to speed up work and increasing patrols and cameras within the communities.

Chen Xincheng immediately pointed out the impracticality of speeding up a year-long highway project due to bike thefts. Wang Shouyi agreed, noting that such a suggestion was unrealistic. He then suggested resorting to the "old method" of organizing manpower for rotating stakeouts, a suggestion Cao Jianjun quickly dismissed as unfeasible given their limited resources. Gao Chao personally interrogated Liu Xiaoguang, with Zhao Jiwei tasked with recording the statements.

Liu Xiaoguang adamantly maintained that he had merely "picked up" the new phone from a holly bush by the roadside. Gao Chao immediately exposed his lie, pointing out the absurdity of an unopened new phone being found in such a place and the inconsistency in Liu Xiaoguang's recollection of when he found it. Despite being confronted with evidence from the body camera, Liu Xiaoguang remained evasive and uncooperative, claiming he ran because he mistook the plain-clothed officers for robbers.

Frustrated by his lack of confession, Gao Chao ended the interrogation and ordered Liu Xiaoguang to be detained for further reflection. Zhang Zhijie tried to defend Zhao Jiwei's youthful zeal, but Gao Chao was furious, blaming Zhao Jiwei's rash actions for allowing Liu Xiaoguang's accomplices to escape. Indeed, a search of Liu Xiaoguang's rented residence revealed that his four housemates had hastily checked out and fled before the police arrived.

Gao Chao suspected this group was responsible for the recent series of storage room thefts. Although Zhang Zhijie found a silver lining in having the case still in their hands, Gao Chao remained critical of Zhao Jiwei's blunders. Zhao Jiwei later apologized to Gao Chao, who advised him to learn from his master, Zhang Zhijie. Meanwhile, Zhang Zhijie dispatched officers to retrieve the phone from the river, hoping to find contact information to trace Liu Xiaoguang's accomplices.

Yang Shu approached Cao Jianjun to discuss Li Dawei's idea of installing GPS systems on electric bikes. Yang Shu explained the concept, including Li Dawei's classmate who works for a charging pile company. Cao Jianjun was skeptical, dismissing it as an impractical and massive undertaking that wouldn't provide immediate relief for the current thefts.

He advised Yang Shu to let Li Dawei pursue it if he wished, but insisted that they would continue with their established methods, such as increasing police presence and stakeouts, believing Wang Shouyi would eventually adopt his advice. Meanwhile, through thorough investigation, Gao Chao confirmed Liu Xiaoguang's involvement as a thief. Wang Shouyi then instructed Gao Chao to formally detain Liu Xiaoguang.

Gao Chao, confirming Liu Xiaoguang's involvement as a thief through thorough investigation, also presented additional grounds for detention: obstructing justice and assault due to Liu Xiaoguang's attack on Zhao Jiwei, making detention possible even without the phone as direct evidence of theft. He directed Gao Chao to arrange a medical check-up, obtain a detention warrant from the Legal Brigade, and then transport Liu Xiaoguang to the detention center.

Zhao Jiwei, learning that the interrogation was being stopped and the suspect was being sent to a detention center, tried to go along, but Gao Chao firmly refused his request. Li Dawei and Yang Shu successfully contacted both the charging pile company and the GPS company, quickly facilitating an agreement between them. Both officers were pleased with this breakthrough.

Li Dawei joked about the "Six Degrees of Separation" theory, attributing the successful connection to a chain of acquaintances, and humorously suggested his gift for communication might have led him to a career in stand-up comedy had he not joined the police force. While celebrating their success, Li Dawei received another call from his mother, again declining to go home for dinner by citing his demanding workload and ongoing cases.

Meanwhile, Gao Chao proceeded to take Liu Xiaoguang to the detention center. However, the detention officer there insisted on seeing Liu Xiaoguang's medical report before admitting him. Shortly after, Wang Shouyi called Gao Chao with urgent news: Chief Zeng from Xianfu Street had informed him that Liu Xiaoguang's medical report indicated he had hepatitis. Wang Shouyi immediately instructed Gao Chao to reroute Liu Xiaoguang to an infectious disease hospital instead of the detention center.
