What Zeng Shushu received was the Azurewood Spell, capable of subduing spirit beasts. Zeng Shushu, who loved raising small animals, was naturally overjoyed. Lin Jingyu and Lu Xueqi also finished receiving their powers, but only Zhang Xiaofan showed no reaction.

Zhang Xiaofan, standing nearby, appeared thoughtful. To help Zhang Xiaofan recuperate, Zeng Shushu pulled Lin Jingyu and Zhang Xiaofan to drink medicinal wine together. Afterward, Zhang Xiaofan and Lin Jingyu walked on the mountain path. Zhang Xiaofan told Lin Jingyu that when he competed with Lu Xueqi, he saw his inner demons, as if he had returned to the time when Grass Temple Village was massacred. He vaguely felt that there was more to some matters than met the eye.

Just then, they saw a dark figure flash past them. Lin Jingyu, on one hand, signaled his master, and on the other hand, chased after it with Zhang Xiaofan. Suddenly, a dark, human-faced beast-bodied figure rushed over and scratched Lin Jingyu. In his desperation, Zhang Xiaofan quickly activated his magic to fight against the black-clad monster. Tian Buyi told Zhang Xiaofan that the reason he disapproved of Qi Hao was not because he was a Tongtian Peak disciple, but because Qi Hao was arrogant, conceited, impure of heart, and unfit for great responsibilities. Tian Buyi criticized Zhang Xiaofan for not having ambition and for not daring to pursue his childhood sweetheart, his senior sister Tian Ling'er.

Zhang Xiaofan, in turn, used the love between his master and his master's wife to persuade his master, for Tian Ling'er's happiness, to allow Tian Ling'er and Qi Hao to be together. Learning that her father had agreed to her marriage with Qi Hao, Tian Ling'er happily found Zhang Xiaofan and embraced him tightly to express her gratitude. For the happiness of the one he loved, Zhang Xiaofan sacrificed his own happiness, giving up his beloved senior sister Tian Ling'er.

He was naturally downcast and melancholic. Just then, Zeng Shushu came to comfort Xiaofan and urged Zhang Xiaofan to follow him to Kongsang Mountain to investigate news of the Demonic Sect. Zhang Xiaofan was concerned that his magic treasure had been confiscated. Zeng Shushu immediately took out Zhang Xiaofan's dark, plain staff. It was only then that Daoist Cangsang returned the staff to Zhang Xiaofan. Zhang Xiaofan found his master. Before he could express his intention to go down the mountain, Tian Buyi agreed to let Zhang Xiaofan go down the mountain for experience, according to the Qingyun Sect's rules.

However, he instructed Zhang Xiaofan to remember the principles of "establishing the heart for heaven and earth, establishing life for the common people, continuing the lost teachings for past sages, and creating peace for all generations," and to bring glory to the sect. At the time of departure, his fellow disciples and Tian Ling'er reluctantly saw Zhang Xiaofan off. The two traveled forward on the Luban Kite when they encountered a flock of birds.

The Luban Kite fell to the ground, and Zhang Xiaofan's leg was injured. Zeng Shushu had no choice but to help Zhang Xiaofan walk. They entered a dilapidated courtyard and found Dog Lord and the escaped disciples of the Blood Refining Hall preparing to go to Yudou City to rob for money. Zeng Shushu prepared to teach them a good lesson. In his daze, Dog Lord seemed to see a ghostly figure flash past him.

It turned out that Zeng Shushu and Zhang Xiaofan had worked together, using some homemade mechanical magic treasures to scare Dog Lord and his men so badly that they fled the courtyard in terror. The two were so overjoyed that they forgot themselves. When they turned around, they saw a mysterious person wearing a mask, and Zeng Shushu was scared out of his wits.

After calming down, the person claimed he had been practicing medicine in the jianghu and that he wore a mask because of a facial disfigurement, to avoid scaring children. This person noticed Zhang Xiaofan's injured leg and healed Zhang Xiaofan's leg in a few moves. This person called himself Ghostly Doctor and made this deserted ancestral hall his home. Early the next morning, Ghostly Doctor pointed out the path to Yudou for Zeng Shushu and Zhang Xiaofan. As soon as the two left the courtyard, the door behind them creaked shut.
