My Mowgli Boy Episode 5 Recap
> My Mowgli Boy Recap
As Tang Cheng arrived at work, she was accosted by a man. Lu Ziyue, who had been observing, stepped forward to intervene. He warned the man that his actions constituted harassment and could lead to detention, causing the man to quickly leave. Tang Cheng, however, remained unimpressed by Lu Ziyue, whom she considered a fuddy-duddy. As she attempted to leave, Lu Ziyue unexpectedly knelt on one knee and, fumbling, produced a diamond ring, proposing to her in public.
He stated that although she was an "accident" and not his ideal partner (one who is steadfast like a rock and a reed), he would take responsibility for what happened between them and wished for them to share the same bed in life and the same grave in death. Tang Cheng was mortified and furious, rushing away in embarrassment. Lu Ziyue remained frozen, while Zheng Li and Bai Yiling looked on awkwardly.
Bai Yiling was particularly confused, asking Zheng Li if Lu Ziyue was indeed her lawyer, and if she could switch legal counsel, given his sudden romantic interest in the opposing lawyer, Tang Cheng. After regaining his composure, Lu Ziyue downplayed the incident, claiming he had lost all his dignity for the year and was now ready to discuss work. Zheng Li then advised Lu Ziyue that Tang Cheng was not a suitable match for him, calling them "opposite numbers."
He suggested Lu Ziyue should seek a woman who is steadfast in love, gentle, virtuous, mature, and sensible. Lu Ziyue proceeded to inquire about Bai Yiling's divorce details. Bai Yiling revealed that she and Chi Xu were college sweethearts and married immediately after graduation. She had sacrificed her preferred major and career path for him, then focused entirely on their family.
She explained that while Chi Xu paid the down payment for their house, she had been responsible for the mortgage payments since their marriage. Although her name was not on the property deed, she sought her rightful share of the assets, not compensation, to secure her future as she would be living alone.
She added that Chi Xu had cheated on her in wedlock, had been preparing for divorce for a long time, and had even sent his pregnant girlfriend abroad. Zheng Li listened intently, his gaze filled with tenderness and pity for Bai Yiling's difficult fate. Lu Ziyue promised to do everything in his power to win her case. As Lu Ziyue extended his hand towards Bai Yiling, Zheng Li abruptly pulled him away, reversing his earlier advice.
He now suggested that people should not always stay in their comfort zones and that Lu Ziyue should "challenge Tang Cheng." Lu Ziyue was puzzled by this sudden change of heart. Back at her office, Tang Cheng muttered to herself, still reeling from Lu Ziyue’s proposal. She scoffed at the idea of being "buried with him," called the proposal "unintelligible," and declared that marriage only complicated future partings.
Vowing never to marry, she dismissed the notion of marriage as a primitive "exchange of interests" fit for "cavemen." Later, Tang Cheng received an urgent phone call from Tutu, Ling Xi’s assistant, informing her that Ling Xi's studio was in crisis. Customers who had pre-ordered the Mori Girl clothing line had not received their goods. The contract manufacturer claimed to have shut down due to financial issues, refusing refunds and citing poor performance.
Tang Cheng found the contract, discovering it lacked a clear delivery date, leading her to realize Ling Xi had been taken advantage of. Ling Xi had paid the full amount upfront because the factory cited a broken capital chain, trusting them due to previous collaborations. Tang Cheng immediately instructed her staff to issue lawyer's letters to major online platforms to control public opinion and to offer refunds or expedited delivery to customers within two days, satisfying all reasonable requests.
Tang Cheng then called Ling Xi, who was driving Mowgli to the forest. Upon hearing the news of the factory's deceit, Ling Xi became enraged and immediately turned the car around, heading directly to the factory with Mowgli to confront the boss. At the factory, Ling Xi and Mowgli discovered it was still operational, not shut down as claimed. Factory workers tried to deter them, lying that the boss was on "vacation in Tuscany."
However, Mowgli's exceptional hearing picked up the boss's voice from within, threatening his employees to withhold three months' salary if they let Ling Xi into his office. Exposed, Ling Xi stormed into the boss's office. The boss attempted to feign poverty, but Ling Xi, remembering his recent WeChat Moments showing lavish vacations, knew he was lying. Feigning that her car was out of gas, Ling Xi asked to borrow a hundred Yuan.
With the money in hand, she instructed Mowgli to search for more. Mowgli, using his keen sense of smell and sight, quickly located a hidden bag of cash in a cabinet. Ling Xi, without hesitation, seized the money, ignoring the boss's frantic protests, and left with Mowgli, celebrating him as her "little lucky star."
Back at the studio, Tang Cheng quickly set up a live stream for Ling Xi to apologize and manage the public relations crisis, reminding her to maintain a humble attitude and "practice tai chi" rather than "throw a grenade." Ling Xi began to apologize, offering refunds and a special "double deposit as cash equivalent" for loyal customers.
However, as "internet trolls" flooded the comments with accusations of her being a "swindler" and her "capital chain broken," Ling Xi lost her temper. She furiously defended herself, asserting her independence and hard work, and arguing that her fans were acting like "keyboard warriors." Tang Cheng frantically tried to stop her, but Ling Xi insisted on speaking her mind, telling discontented fans to "blacklist" and "unfollow" her, as she would not "kneel" to them.
After Ling Xi's disastrous outburst, Tang Cheng chastised her for creating an even bigger mess. The studio's backend was overwhelmed with refund requests, which had "shot up to Mount Everest," and their Weibo page was "flooded" with negative comments. As they tried to figure out a solution, Tutu suddenly pointed out that fans were asking about a "surprise" and a "mysterious man" who had appeared on the live stream.
They realized Mowgli had continued the live stream in her place, sincerely apologizing to the fans. Many fans commented that if the mysterious man was Ling Xi's boyfriend, they would consider dropping the issue. Seizing this unexpected opportunity, Ling Xi immediately played along, confirming Mowgli as her boyfriend and announcing a special "couple pajamas" line as their "surprise."
At home, Wen Yu, Ling Xi's aunt, saw the negative comments about Ling Xi on social media and expressed concern, asking Ling Yu to help contact factories. Ling Father, however, was preoccupied with seeing Mowgli in the live stream. When Ling Xi suddenly declared Mowgli her boyfriend, he stormed off in anger. The next morning, Ling Xi prepared a special breakfast for Mowgli, asking if he was happy and wanted to stay longer.
Mowgli, enjoying the attention and good food, said he was "happy" and that Ling Xi was "very nice." Ling Xi took this as confirmation he would stay and participate in her plan. Ling Xi then tasked Tang Cheng with giving Mowgli a complete makeover. She explained that Mowgli's "dry and withered" hair needed to be styled to match her image as a "domineering female CEO" so that people would believe he was her boyfriend.
Ling Xi added that she needed to visit Uncle Zheng, Zheng Li's father, who had just returned from abroad, and also intended to explain the fake relationship to Zheng Li. Mowgli, confused about why Ling Xi wasn't taking him, was told by Ling Xi that she had "other things to do" and that he should go with Tang Cheng, whose car was "tall and big" and "comfy." Mowgli, in response, humorously threatened to remember Ling Xi’s "eight generations of ancestors."
Tang Cheng took Mowgli to a salon where he was fascinated by a "guiding robot." She instructed the stylist to give Mowgli a fashionable haircut that made him look "handsome" and "match Ling Xi well," resembling "the man behind the domineering female CEO." She even jokingly threatened to cancel her and Ling Xi's salon memberships if the job wasn't excellent.
Mowgli, unused to the salon, nervously dodged the stylist’s scissors, leading the stylist to wonder if he practiced "Wudang or Shaolin secret martial arts." Tang Cheng reassured Mowgli, telling him to imagine the stylist was "a big monkey scratching an itch." After his makeover, Mowgli was transformed, revealing delicate features and looking like a sunny and handsome young man. Later, Ling Xi returned to her studio to find her staff trying to prevent her father from entering.
Ling Father eventually confronted Ling Xi, questioning her about Mowgli. Ling Xi defiantly dismissed Mowgli as just an "employee" or "model," an "average Joe on the street," and told her father it was none of his business. Ling Father, suspecting a "modern marketing gimmick," advised her to run her business honestly, emphasizing that "integrity always comes first" and warning against "bells and whistles" that are "outwardly strong and inwardly weak."
Ling Xi retorted by telling him to return to the 38th floor (referring to his company). Ling Father criticized her handling of the factory crisis and the resulting bad reviews, mentioning that Ling Yu had "ratted" on her, and reminded her of her promise to "start her own business" rather than join Wharf. Ling Xi sharply told him to worry about where to hang his own wedding photos.
Just as the father and daughter’s argument intensified, Zheng Li’s father, Uncle Zheng, arrived. Ling Xi immediately softened, warmly greeting him as "Uncle Zheng," who affectionately called her "daughter-in-law" and praised her, much to Ling Father's annoyance. Uncle Zheng announced that Wharf had successfully secured the Bidi project, acknowledging Ling Father’s long-standing dedication and emphasizing that Wharf was "a company we started together." Ling Xi enthusiastically called Uncle Zheng the "anchor" of the 38th floor.
Ling Father complained about Ling Xi calling Zheng Li's father "Old Zheng," but Uncle Zheng dismissed it, saying children only needed to be happy. Uncle Zheng then advised Ling Xi to talk to her father respectfully. Uncle Zheng then invited Ling Xi to dinner that evening. Ling Xi eagerly agreed, confirming she would go if Zheng Li was present, and they departed for a "top-level spicy" dinner.
