Mowgli received a phone call reporting a group of poachers with explosives and firearms in the forest. He rushed to the scene, where he found footprints and steel balls from homemade guns. Mowgli confronted the poachers, recognizing their leader from a previous encounter. He criticized them for their illegal activities, which the leader met with threats and an order to attack.

Mowgli fought them, protecting an animal, and declared they would have to kill him first to get to the animal. Just as he was in a perilous situation, the Village Chief and the Ranger's son arrived with police, causing the poachers to scatter and flee. Later that night, Mowgli sat by a fire with the Ranger's son, thanking him for the timely information.

The Ranger's son lamented that the lead poacher had escaped, but Mowgli insisted that the true mastermind was still at large and responsible for both the current poaching and the murder of Mowgli's grandfather 23 years ago, for which only a scapegoat was punished. He vowed to bring the mastermind to justice, explaining that his grandfather died protecting him, and he felt a deep obligation to uphold justice for his family and the forest.

The Ranger's son, concerned for Mowgli’s safety, urged him not to take such risks. The Ranger's son then gave Mowgli a childhood photo, a memento from the day his grandfather found him. Mowgli, in turn, offered to help the Ranger's son with anything he needed. The Ranger's son noted Mowgli’s significant change, which Mowgli attributed to someone who taught him to appreciate kindness and gratitude.

The Ranger's son correctly inferred he was speaking of Ling Xi, praising her resilience and strength despite her city upbringing and seemingly spoiled demeanor, recalling her arduous journey to find him in the past. Mowgli asked whether human relationships are ultimately determined by fate. The next morning, while the Village Chief prepared breakfast before heading to the mountains with his tools, Mowgli noticed the handle of the Village Chief’s shovel.

He recognized it as the gunstock of Donghai’s old hunting rifle, a crucial piece of evidence from the past, though incomplete as the other parts had been discarded and could not constitute evidence. Mowgli then went to Fengyu company to confront Zheng Weijue. Zheng Weijue, angry that police had been drawn to the mountains, questioned Mowgli’s motives. Mowgli defended his actions, stating he acted to protect the company’s reputation against illegal activities.

He then presented the gunstock to Zheng Weijue, explaining it was found at a villager's home. Zheng Weijue, initially relieved that the evidence was incomplete, told Mowgli to cease his investigation. As Mowgli prepared to leave, Zheng Weijue called him "Ye," his childhood name, and advised him not to pursue old matters or put his life at risk. Mowgli questioned Zheng Weijue’s fear, directly linking it to the gun used to kill someone by the log cabin.

Mowgli then revealed that Ding Jianxiong was still alive and had identified Zheng Weijue as his assailant. This revelation shocked Zheng Weijue, who immediately demanded to know Ding Jianxiong's whereabouts and called for security. Leaving the company, Mowgli reflected on his profound love for Ling Xi. He recalled how she had saved the "seven-year-old boy" inside him who had metaphorically died when his grandfather was killed.

He had written a farewell letter to Ling Xi, expressing his deep affection and the unparalleled happiness she had brought into his life. He explained his dangerous path was driven by his commitment to his grandfather and the forest, and a shared belief in justice and dignity, concluding that meeting her was his supreme honor. Meanwhile, Chu Shi convinced Ling Xi to accompany her to deliver food to Ling Yu at the hospital.

Ling Xi was hesitant, wary of appearing still interested in Ling Yu, but eventually conceded. Outside Ling Yu’s room, they encountered Mowgli. Ling Xi expressed her firm stance against Ling Yu, believing he deserved his current predicament for his actions against her father and Wen Yu.

Mowgli approached Ling Xi, telling her face-to-face about his plan to confront Zheng Weijue, cautioning her that his chances of winning were not high and instructing her to call the police if he contacted her. They shared a brief, emotional exchange, inquiring about each other’s well-being, and Mowgli urged her to take care of herself. Ling Xi called out Mowgli’s name as he walked away.

Mowgli then tore up the farewell letter he had written, deciding that Ling Xi no longer needed to carry his burdens and should live a carefree life. Separately, Li Yuheng invited Ling Xi to an art exhibition, revealing it was his birthday and he hoped his wish would come true. He confessed his serious feelings for her, explaining that since meeting her, his once-boring life felt lonely without her. He asked if she would choose him.

Ling Xi gently declined, affirming his importance as a friend she never wanted to lose and promising to repay his kindness someday. Li Yuheng, understanding her true feelings, acknowledged her continued love for Mowgli. He then revealed that Mowgli had also been at the club to save her during the sauna incident, arriving a step earlier than him.

Following his plan, Mowgli set up a meeting with Zheng Weijue at a specific address, creating the impression that Ding Jianxiong was there. Zheng Weijue arrived, initially believing he was there to see Ding Jianxiong. When he saw it was Mowgli on the bed, he realized he had been tricked.

Mowgli then accused Zheng Weijue of Ding Jianxiong's murder and presented several pieces of evidence: a speeding ticket placing Zheng Weijue at the seaside on the day Ding Jianxiong disappeared, a paper crane with Zheng Weijue's blood on it, and photos of tire tracks matching Zheng Weijue's vehicle at the scene. Zheng Weijue, dismissing the evidence as insignificant "scraps," became overconfident and openly admitted to the murder, believing Mowgli's actual recording device was compromised.

Mowgli then revealed that he had "allowed" Zheng Weijue to believe he had found and disabled the camera, implying he had a hidden recording all along. Realizing he had been outmaneuvered and recorded, Zheng Weijue declared he had nothing to lose and violently attacked Mowgli, attempting to kill him. Mowgli defiantly stated he would ensure Zheng Weijue was imprisoned. Meanwhile, Ling Xi, alerted by Li Yuheng's revelation about Mowgli's past actions, was greatly shocked, realizing Mowgli still deeply loved her.

She immediately called Mowgli's phone but couldn't get through. Realizing the situation was dire, she immediately called the police and rushed to the scene in a taxi. She arrived just as Zheng Weijue was attacking Mowgli and trying to snatch his phone. The police swiftly apprehended Zheng Weijue. Mowgli collapsed into Ling Xi's arms, whispering that the evidence was on the phone Zheng Weijue had tried to take.

Later, in a police car, Mowgli awoke to find Ling Xi beside him. He confirmed Zheng Weijue's arrest and that his phone and the crucial audio recording were safely with the police. Ling Xi questioned if their breakup was solely a ploy for him to undertake the dangerous mission alone, a fact Mowgli's silence confirmed. She expressed anger and hurt at being left out and underestimated, but quickly softened when she accidentally touched his wound.

She playfully teased him about his strength, and he claimed he had merely slipped during the fight. Ling Xi then revealed she had installed a tracking system on his phone, ensuring she could always find him. She playfully mentioned her "very happy" date with Li Yuheng at the gallery, eliciting a jealous reaction from Mowgli. Ultimately, Ling Xi forgave him, acknowledging his good intentions despite his methods.

At the police station, investigators interrogated Zheng Weijue, who claimed he couldn't recall his whereabouts on November 8th, the day Ding Jianxiong disappeared, despite a speeding ticket placing him at Haibin Road. He dismissed Mowgli's audio recording, insisting Mowgli had induced him to speak out of hatred and a desire for revenge.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that incriminating evidence from a video camera, previously used to threaten Zheng Weijue, suggested his murder of Ding Jianxiong was an attempt to cover up a murder from 19 years ago.
