Ling Yu, now without a home, lingered near Chu Shi's apartment building, where he unexpectedly encountered her returning from an environmental trip. He smiled weakly, acknowledging his current predicament was a consequence of his own actions. Chu Shi, with a gentle gaze, did not wish him ill, but simply hoped he would be well. Feeling unworthy, Ling Yu left without looking back, believing he deserved no more from her.

Meanwhile, Ling Xi secretly entered Zheng Weijue's office to search for evidence. Her task was almost complete when Zheng Weijue returned with Mowgli. Mowgli, with his keen hearing, detected Ling Xi rummaging in the cabinet. He quickly created a diversion, allowing Ling Xi to calmly sit in a chair before Zheng Weijue opened the door. However, Zheng Weijue's cunning nature led him to notice the cabinet door had been disturbed.

During a subsequent confrontation, Ling Xi reminded Zheng Weijue that she had played in this office as a child, long before he arrived, questioning his right to tell her what to do. Mowgli, acting as a project manager for Aeolus Media Group, retorted that as the current manager of Aeolus Media, he had every right to educate her and threatened to call the police if she trespassed again. Ling Xi countered, criticizing Aeolus Media's unique guest treatment.

Mowgli then accused her of attempting to ruin their name or take them down, claiming her tactics hadn't changed over the years, and firmly stated his company wouldn't work with people like her, demanding she leave. Zheng Weijue chimed in, implying Ling Xi's company was not "top-end" enough for a collaboration and sarcastically asked her to dispose of his trash on her way out. Mowgli, understanding Zheng Weijue's implied insult, echoed that Ling Xi's company was only worth such treatment.

Undeterred, Ling Xi, along with Tutu and others, later ventured to the building's dumpster downstairs to search for shredded documents from Aeolus Media. Li Yuheng also arrived to help them. Their persistence paid off as Ling Xi found the documents she sought. However, the exhaustive search took a toll, and she developed a high fever. Li Yuheng promptly rushed her to the hospital. As Ling Xi lay suffering, Mowgli unexpectedly appeared by her side.

He had been quietly watching over her, and he offered her water. Ling Xi, in her weakened state, found solace in his presence, musing that being sick allowed her a fleeting moment with him. She confessed her deep regret for not begging him to stay when he left, abandoning her pride and self-respect, acknowledging she had already lost everything.

Mowgli gently urged her not to put herself in danger again, for the sake of her family and friends, and to protect herself. Ling Xi responded by wishing to accompany him on his own difficult path, but Mowgli replied that was precisely why he couldn't let her. Ling Xi then tearfully asked if he ever regretted leaving her. Later, Ling Xi awoke to find Mowgli gone, with only Li Yuheng by her side.

Confused about whether her previous interaction was real or a dream, she cried heartbrokenly, deciding it was time to finally give up on Mowgli and view him only as an opponent. Unbeknownst to her, Mowgli stood just outside the room, his heart aching as he listened to her sobs.

At that moment, Mowgli received a phone call from Zheng Li, who informed him that Zheng Weijue seemed to have found something during a safety inspection at the Senmu second-phase project, and was attempting to cover it up by excavating through the night without company approval. Mowgli and Zheng Li immediately drove to the site. Upon arrival, Mowgli and Zheng Li noticed fresh footprints on the muddy road, indicating Zheng Weijue had been there about an hour earlier.

Zheng Li split off to search for other entry points while Mowgli went to Zheng Weijue's office at the site. Mowgli found Zheng Weijue with a burlap sack and, not trusting him, demanded he open it to prevent the destruction of potential evidence from the past. Zheng Weijue initially resisted, questioning Mowgli’s trust, but Mowgli reiterated his suspicion, knowing Zheng Weijue's past closeness with Ling Zhenghao made him worry Zheng Weijue might use any findings to reconcile with Ling Zhenghao.

When the sack was opened, it contained only a shovel, leaving both men perplexed. Zheng Weijue, however, now realized that Zheng Li was secretly assisting Mowgli, a revelation that deeply disappointed him. That evening, Mowgli and Zheng Li discussed the day's events. Mowgli regretted not finding crucial evidence, which would have helped them immensely, but reminded Zheng Li that his own situation was precarious since Zheng Weijue now knew he was being followed. Later, the Zheng family gathered for dinner.

Zheng mother sensed the tension between father and son. She advised Zheng Li to be understanding of his father, even if he made mistakes, and declared she would always stand by Zheng Weijue. Zheng Li's disappointment in his father grew, feeling he had betrayed his mother's profound love. Zheng mother tried to mediate, urging them not to argue over outsiders. She admitted to pretending ignorance of their family disputes but couldn't anymore.

Zheng Li directly confronted his father, asking why he had tried to lose him on the way to the site and if he was going to explain his actions to their mother, whom he was letting down despite her unconditional love. Zheng Weijue, dismissing Zheng Li's accusations and denying any wrongdoing, claimed he was only at the construction site for legitimate reasons and told Zheng Li to ask the workers or his driver.

Zheng Li refused to accept the explanation, instructing his father to explain himself to their mother, reiterating that he wouldn't allow him to betray her. Meanwhile, Ling Xi and Li Yuheng went to meet Mr. Zhou, hoping to persuade him to end his cooperation with Aeolus Media. Ling Xi, embracing a more direct approach despite Li Yuheng's preference for caution, intentionally crashed into Mr. Zhou's car to force an encounter.

Li Yuheng then introduced himself as being from Mozi Capital, leveraging his reputation to gain Mr. Zhou's attention. Together, they presented evidence that Aeolus Media was outsourcing Mr. Zhou's high-value project to inexperienced companies, calling it a form of fraud. Initially angered by the car incident and their approach, Mr. Zhou agreed to re-evaluate his contract after hearing their compelling argument and reviewing the evidence.

Just as Mr. Zhou was about to meet with the Aeolus Media representative, Mowgli appeared, acting on behalf of Zheng Weijue. Mowgli began to praise his long-standing and smooth cooperation with Mr. Zheng and Aeolus Media. However, Mr. Zhou, now aware of the outsourcing issue, confronted Mowgli directly, accusing Aeolus Media of deception and immediately terminating their contract, demanding compensation. He then thanked Ling Xi and Li Yuheng for exposing the truth and invited Li Yuheng for further discussion.

Mowgli, witnessing the seemingly intimate interaction between Ling Xi and Li Yuheng, became visibly jealous. He confronted them, sarcastically offering Li Yuheng a hearing aid given how close they were talking. Ling Xi defiantly stated she enjoyed talking closely to people and asked if Mowgli was angry. He admitted he was, accusing them of lacking professional ethics for poaching clients. Ling Xi corrected him, stating they were exposing his company's unethical practices.

Mowgli then accused Ling Xi of using his remaining affection for her to her advantage. Ling Xi, resolute, acknowledged her vulnerability as a woman but declared her unwavering commitment to protecting those she cared for and firmly told Mowgli that she no longer loved him. Mowgli instinctively grabbed Ling Xi, but Li Yuheng intervened, pulling her away and warning Mowgli not to disturb her again, telling him she deserved respect. Li Yuheng then took Ling Xi away for pizza, leaving Mowgli alone with his feelings.
