While Gu Chuan and Jiang Xiaoning were working together to restore their family house, Xu Cheng Ran arrived, making light of their blossoming relationship before getting serious. He informed Gu Chuan that the landmark project proposal at the studio needed amendments. Gu Chuan agreed to return to the office after finishing his current task.
Xu Cheng Ran then revealed he had already enlisted Su Man Lin to help, stating he wanted to give Gu Chuan and Jiang Xiaoning "precious time together." He mentioned the revised proposal was in Gu Chuan's email and urged him to review it and return to the office as the lead designer. Jiang Xiaoning thanked Xu Cheng Ran, who then asked if he could see her, to which Jiang Xiaoning assented.
He handed Jiang Xiaoning a document, explaining someone (Gu Chuan) had "forced me to lie to you to make you sign" his will. Discovering the will, Jiang Xiaoning was upset, telling Gu Chuan not to make such plans for her, wishing only for him to include her in his future. Gu Chuan assured her she was indeed in his future plans, but when Jiang Xiaoning suggested cuddling, he declined, citing "Rules are rules" and his concern for her health.
Earlier, Gu Chuan had expressed his intention to not return to the studio from the next day, wanting to prioritize resting and spending time with his parents and Jiang Xiaoning, suggesting Xu Cheng Ran could take over. Jiang Xiaoning, however, argued that he was the "soul of the studio." Gu Chuan conceded that she, unlike him, still needed to work. News of Gu Chuan's return created a buzz at the studio, with staff eager for his presence.
Jiang Xiaoning arrived first and was affectionately called "Mrs. Boss" by some. Meanwhile, Tang Xu met with Zheng, a manager, seeking his help to cash out 30 million yuan that he had managed to transfer from Xu Guoxiang's branch into Zhi Mu Design's account. After Tang Xu left, Xu Guoxiang and Assistant Liu discussed Tang Xu's recent behavior, agreeing that it was "not normal," and Xu Guoxiang instructed Assistant Liu to "keep an eye on him." Zhao Yan arrived at Xu Cheng Ran's office, finding him working late and bringing him food. She apologized for her previous reluctance to publicize their relationship.
She explained that witnessing Gu Chuan and Jiang Xiaoning's "lost and found" love made her realize she should "cherish every single day" she got to spend with him. Xu Cheng Ran was overjoyed, and eager for "compensation," he publicly announced to the entire office that he was leaving because "my wife came to pick me up," then led Zhao Yan out hand-in-hand, much to the amusement of their colleagues.
Gu Chuan and Jiang Xiaoning visited a nursery to buy flowers for their yard. As Gu Chuan looked at the plants, Jiang Xiaoning internally reflected on their relationship. She mused that everything seemed the same, yet different, noting that while she stood close to him, she felt a constant need to maintain distance. Their hearts had never been closer, yet their future felt increasingly unclear and uncertain. Despite the ambiguity, she found solace just by being by his side.
Gu Chuan noticed her pensive mood and asked what she was thinking. Later, Zheng confirmed to Tang Xu that he had transferred his share of the money. Zheng stated his intention to "stay away for a while," but Tang Xu dismissed the need to hide, asserting he had "nothing to be afraid of." Unknown to them, Assistant Liu observed their conversation from a distance in a dimly lit bar.
Jiang Xiaoning actively helped Gu Chuan clean their home, surprising him with her enthusiasm. However, moments later, Gu Chuan suddenly clutched his chest, struggling to breathe. Jiang Xiaoning immediately helped him to the charging room, but the charging process repeatedly started and stopped, displaying "Charging interrupted." Seeing his heart rate drop to zero on his watch, Jiang Xiaoning's eyes welled with tears as she desperately called out to him.
After a tense moment, his heart rate suddenly surged, and Gu Chuan opened his eyes. Jiang Xiaoning cried in relief, assuring him he would be fine. Gu Chuan recalled a past conversation with Dr. Peer, who had explained "Safe Mode." This mode allowed the mechanical heart to operate at minimum capacity, merely sustaining basic functions to prolong life and provide time to "say goodbye to this world" rather than a sudden departure.
However, Dr. Peer had warned that it would affect "blood flow," causing the person to become "dull and slow" and unresponsive to emotions. Gu Chuan realized that entering "Safe Mode" was essentially a warning that his "time is not much left." After Gu Chuan recovered, Jiang Xiaoning brought him food, recalling the first time she cooked for him and expressing her hope that he would now be "healthy and happy."
Xu Guoxiang summoned Tang Xu, directly accusing him of stealing his money and calling him an "ingrate." Tang Xu argued that he "deserved" the money for his years of "hard work." Xu Guoxiang dismissed his claims as "bollocks," reminding Tang Xu he had treated him like his own son, then threatened not only Tang Xu but also Tang Zheng Cheng if the money was not returned.
Tang Xu retaliated by threatening to reveal all the "evidence" he had on Xu Guoxiang, vowing to "die together." Xu Guoxiang remained unfazed, asserting that only Tang Xu would be found guilty. He gave Tang Xu three days to return the money and "get lost." Distraught, Jiang Xiaoning tried to contact Dr. Peer's assistant, Miss Qing Zi, sending an email requesting her contact details for an "important matter."
The next morning, her mother found her secretly cooped up in her room, thinking she was studying. Jiang Xiaoning received Qing Zi's contact information and immediately called her. She introduced herself as Gu Chuan's girlfriend and apologized for contacting her abruptly, explaining she had a crucial matter to discuss face-to-face. Qing Zi revealed she was in Shanghai for a business trip and invited Jiang Xiaoning to meet her.
To get time off from work, Jiang Xiaoning fabricated a story about needing to take her grandmother for a "thorough check-up," declining Gu Chuan's offer to accompany her. Jiang Xiaoning met Qing Zi and immediately inquired about Gu Chuan's mechanical heart, showing her online research and asking if it could be replaced with a biological heart. Qing Zi, however, stated that Gu Chuan's problem was "rare" and that "even Dr. Peer couldn't solve" it, rendering Jiang Xiaoning's online research useless. She further explained that after ten years with a mechanical heart, switching to a biological heart would result in a "very low" survival rate.
