Gu Chuan was tormented by his recent decision, his mind replaying moments with Jiang Xiaoning. Memories of him expressing his feelings, of her joy, and their journey from first meeting to acquaintance now brought him pain. He recalled telling her, "I like you," and asking, "Can I be included in your future plans?" He had even promised to "buy your smile for today." The thought of Jiang Xiaoning's disappointment brought tears to his eyes.

Meanwhile, Zhao Yan was furious about Gu Chuan breaking up with Jiang Xiaoning. She confronted Xu Cheng Ran, demanding to know why, and lashed out, calling Gu Chuan a "damned friend" and threatening to "sort him out." Xu Cheng Ran desperately tried to explain that Gu Chuan had his reasons, but before he could elaborate, an "Insufficient Charge" alarm blared from his phone.

Ignoring Zhao Yan's glare, Xu Cheng Ran rushed to Gu Chuan's home, finding him collapsed on the sofa. He quickly moved Gu Chuan to the charging station, admonishing him, "Why are you doing this? You love her. Why do you have to torment each other?" Xu Cheng Ran was scared, thinking Gu Chuan was "gone" and questioning if he had a "death wish" by refusing to recharge.

He pleaded with Gu Chuan to consider his feelings and stop hurting him, before sighing and leaving the unresponsive Gu Chuan. Days later, Gu Chuan, still troubled, was unable to escape the illusion of Jiang Xiaoning everywhere. Xu Cheng Ran brought him a bowl of vegetable porridge, noting his poor self-care. Suddenly, Jiang Xiaoning called, frantic, saying that Ice Cream was dying and she was at the pet hospital. She urged Gu Chuan to come immediately.

At the hospital, the doctor explained that Ice Cream's "organs are failing" and suggested euthanasia. Jiang Xiaoning vehemently refused, expressing her deep love for Ice Cream and insisting that it might be using this time "to say goodbye to the world" or was "still holding on" because it didn't want to leave. Gu Chuan initially agreed to the euthanasia, causing Jiang Xiaoning to demand, "Who are you to decide?"

She argued that Ice Cream had the right to its own choice, while Gu Chuan asserted that it had no choice and couldn't express its suffering. Gu Chuan, seeing Jiang Xiaoning’s distress, offered to talk to the doctor for a "better option" and comforted Ice Cream, promising to stay by its side and ensure no one would hurt it.

He recalled a happier time when they named Ice Cream, picking the name because they found the cat while eating ice cream, and Jiang Xiaoning playfully corrected him that Ice Cream was a tomcat, not a girl. Later, as Jiang Xiaoning dozed off from exhaustion, Gu Chuan gently draped his jacket over her. When she awoke, her heart sank upon seeing the signed euthanasia consent form bearing Gu Chuan's signature. Distraught, she desperately called him, but he didn't answer.

After Gu Chuan's text, "Want to come and have a look at Ice Cream?" , Jiang Xiaoning, like a zombie, sprang from her bed and rushed to the pet cemetery. There, she confronted Gu Chuan, verbally submitting her resignation since she hadn't prepared a formal letter. Gu Chuan calmly told her she "should continue to work there."

Jiang Xiaoning poured out her heart, expressing that she had gathered all her courage to be with him, disregarding others' opinions, but realized she was wrong. She declared that a "mechanical heart is cold," and no matter how much warmth she offered, it was useless. While she initially believed their breakup was just a momentary impulse and he would come back, "Ice Cream's situation" had utterly disappointed her, revealing his perceived lack of care for others' feelings.

Gu Chuan coldly admitted, "That's me." Jiang Xiaoning suggested they "hit the brakes on our relationship," asking if there was "still hope," before turning her back on him and walking away. Gu Chuan replayed the doctor's words in his mind, explaining that all of Ice Cream's "organs are inflamed" and it was "suffering." He remembered agreeing to euthanasia, but at the last moment, as the doctor prepared the injection, he had whispered, "Wait."

He also recalled Ice Cream's soft fur and its affection for him. Gu Chuan had taken Ice Cream to Jiang Xiaoning's old house for a final peaceful moment before it passed. Now, looking at the flowing water, the memory of Jiang Xiaoning's farewell intensified his pain. Xu Cheng Ran found Gu Chuan mumbling Jiang Xiaoning's name in his sleep, urging him to "wake up."

After rousing him, Xu Cheng Ran told Gu Chuan, "If you don't want her to go, get her back. Jiang Xiaoning is a reasonable person. If you tell her everything, she'll forgive you." He expressed concern over Gu Chuan's fluctuating heart data, which was more drastic than ever, and offered to move in, but Gu Chuan insisted he was fine and told Xu Cheng Ran to return to the office.

Gu Chuan casually inquired about Jiang Xiaoning's whereabouts, but Xu Cheng Ran replied that even Zhao Yan didn't know and suggested Gu Chuan call her himself if he was truly worried. Gu Chuan dismissed it, saying he was "just asking," but inwardly, he knew he had to "get used to the days without her." Meanwhile, Director Xu summoned Tang Xu, intending for him to use a dormant branch company for money laundering, stating that leaving it idle was "too obvious."

He requested Tang Xu to handle another transaction soon. Tang Xu expressed apprehension, pointing out the small scale of the branch office and the close proximity of transaction dates, fearing an audit. He then seized the opportunity to beg Director Xu for more trust, asserting his capabilities beyond just money laundering and his ambition to make the branch company prosper if given more authority.

However, Director Xu sternly rebuked him, telling him to "find your own position" and reminding him that "the group's affairs" were none of his concern. He then dismissively ordered Tang Xu to "Get lost!" Zhao Yan arrived at Jiang Xiaoning's house, finding her distraught but still holding onto hope for contact from Gu Chuan. Zhao Yan, remembering Gu Chuan's coldness, passionately defended Jiang Xiaoning, calling Gu Chuan a "scumbag" for how he handled their breakup.

She couldn't fathom why Jiang Xiaoning, despite being "dumped in public," seemed to be in denial. Jiang Xiaoning, however, asserted that she didn't blame Gu Chuan for their relationship ending, only for his actions regarding Ice Cream. She believed she might seem "a fool in love," but she knew his character and didn't think he intentionally meant to hurt her.

Jiang Xiaoning decided not to return to work, citing the awkwardness of a "workplace romance" post-breakup and her inability to face Gu Chuan. But Zhao Yan became infuriated, finding Jiang Xiaoning's "sensible" attitude frustrating and unfair. She vehemently insisted Jiang Xiaoning return to work, urging her not to let the breakup defeat her or give Gu Chuan satisfaction, even threatening to break their friendship if she refused.

Later, Tang Xu visited his father, Tang Zheng Cheng, who was cleaning out a storeroom. Tang Zheng Cheng unearthed old trophies, honorary credentials, and a photograph of a young Tang Xu and Jiang Xiaoning. Tang Zheng Cheng wistfully recounted how Tang Xu was "a really good kid" who never caused his parents worry, and how attending his parent-teacher conferences was their happiest moment.

He then tearfully apologized to Tang Xu, admitting he had "ruined" his son's "better future prospect" and lamenting the difficulties Tang Xu must have faced "living under someone else's roof." Moved by his father's words, Tang Xu agreed to stay for dinner. Chen Wenwen returned from abroad and immediately contacted Jiang Xiaoning. Jiang Xiaoning confessed that her relationship with Gu Chuan had ended and that she had resigned.

Chen Wenwen, like Zhao Yan, urged Jiang Xiaoning not to be "silly" by shouldering the burden of the breakup alone. She encouraged Jiang Xiaoning to face the consequences with courage and insisted that resigning was "not advisable" unless Gu Chuan had fired her.

Chen Wenwen argued that a "breakup simply means a different way to get along with each other," and since Gu Chuan was continuing his life and going to work, Jiang Xiaoning should do the same and not wallow in despair.
