Miss Crow with Mr. Lizard Episode 18 Recap
> Miss Crow with Mr. Lizard Recap
Picking up from the previous episode, Gu Chuan's lawyer, Huang, investigated the mysterious man captured in Xu Cheng Ran's photo. The man was identified as Chen Ao, the twin brother of Chen Yun, the truck driver who had caused Gu Chuan's accident. The lawyer revealed that Chen Yun had been found guilty of hit-and-run, causing two deaths and one critical injury, and was sentenced to ten years in prison.
However, Chen Yun had fled the scene after hitting Gu Chuan's car but was soon arrested and later died of illness in prison. Both brothers had criminal records involving robbery and burglary. Despite Chen Ao seemingly having no direct connection to his accident, Gu Chuan felt he could not allow Chen Ao to harm Xu Cheng Ran. He obtained Chen Ao's record, address, and basic information from the lawyer, emphasizing that the information should not be shared.
Gu Chuan also inquired about the progress of his foundation, to which Lawyer Huang replied that there were still procedures to follow. Meanwhile, at the Reindeer Group's Chairman's office, Tang Xu expressed concern to Xu's father about suspicious figures in the original account, fearing their cooperating company might discover the discrepancies. Xu's father dismissed his worries, stating that great undertakings require unwavering will, great opportunity, and strong endurance, and that anything that hasn't happened yet is not a problem.
Soon after, Xu Cheng Ran arrived. Tang Xu quietly left. Xu Cheng Ran then sarcastically questioned his father about the "earth-shattering conspiracy" they were brewing. He criticized his father for neglecting the family business while he focused on his own small studios, and pondered aloud whether the company would be given to him or to his father’s godson in the future.
Xu Cheng Ran then showed his father a photo of a man, asserting it was his assailant, but his father claimed not to recognize him. Xu Cheng Ran also conveyed a message from his mother, who was returning next month and wanted to know if his father had any social engagements they needed to "put up an act" for; otherwise, she would head straight to Hainan for a vacation. Xu's father found his ex-wife's "little wit" amusing.
After Xu Cheng Ran left, Xu's father made a call to his assistant, revealing that the person in question had gambled and lost again, coming to the company for money, but had been sent away. He warned the assistant that Xu Cheng Ran had taken a photo of them together and advised them to be more cautious, as things could "run into trouble" if they continued like this.
The next morning, Gu Chuan surprised Jiang Xiaoning by picking her up for work, explaining he was "taking care of a patient." Although Jiang Xiaoning insisted she was fine, Gu Chuan insisted on driving, even stopping to buy her a fruit tea. When the shop's network was down and they could only accept cash, Gu Chuan paid with a handful of coins, then jokingly offered to "buy her smile for today," and for "tomorrow," encouraging her to smile more often.
Later at the office, his colleagues noticed his improved mood, to which Gu Chuan happily replied that someone had "bought his smile." Later, Chen Wenwen apologized to Jiang Xiaoning via text for a previous incident and asked to meet at a coffee shop. There, Chen Wenwen presented Jiang Xiaoning with a "souvenir"—an album containing photos Gu Chuan had taken for National Geographic ten years ago, along with some pictures from his youth.
She explained that she felt Jiang Xiaoning should have them to "know more about his past," insisting that Jiang Xiaoning was the most qualified person to keep them. Chen Wenwen revealed she was leaving for Australia the next day to photograph endangered animals affected by wildfires, unsure when she would return. She expressed that meeting Jiang Xiaoning had been her greatest gain and had helped her "re-know Gu Chuan," urging Jiang Xiaoning to take good care of him.
Jiang Xiaoning wondered if Chen Wenwen was leaving because of her, but Chen Wenwen dismissed the idea, stating that while Gu Chuan was stubborn, only Jiang Xiaoning could change him because they both possessed a "passionate heart." She genuinely wished them happiness. That evening, Jiang Xiaoning and Gu Chuan had a late-night meal. Jiang Xiaoning, on Gu Chuan's inquiry, shared her philosophy of optimism.
She explained her "mind control" technique, where she approaches every daily activity with positivity, ensuring constant happiness. She admitted that while she had faced much bad luck and many unpleasant experiences since childhood, she had learned to cope, believing that every day is new and every moment is unrepeatable. Gu Chuan listened intently.
Later, in the taxi on the way home, Gu Chuan listened as the driver shared insights about his own seven-year marriage, emphasizing that men should always give and and strive to understand their partners to maintain a healthy relationship. Gu Chuan then subtly asked Jiang Xiaoning about her approaching birthday, having seen it on her ID when preparing her boarding pass.
Jiang Xiaoning, however, preferred not to dwell on birthdays, stating that every day was just a normal day and that living happily each day was what truly mattered. Upon returning home, Jiang Xiaoning looked at her calendar, where her birthday was marked, and tears welled up as she thought of her parents.
Gu Chuan then sent her a message with a photo of an ice cream, stating: "Ice-cream also wants Jiang Xiao Ning to spend her every waking moment happily," which served as a comforting gesture and helped dry her tears, giving her strength. Meanwhile, Zhao Yan arrived at a coffee shop, where Xu Cheng Ran was engaged in an exaggerated display of affection with an actress he'd hired to pose as his girlfriend.
Zhao Yan saw through their act, sarcastically asking the actress if she was "studying acting." She then provocatively kissed Xu Cheng Ran, prompting him to quickly send the actress away. Zhao Yan chastised Xu Cheng Ran for his antics, telling him to stop involving innocent girls in his "performance." Soon after, Xu Cheng Ran received an urgent call informing him that his father had collapsed and was hospitalized.
Zhao Yan offered to drive him, and on the way, Xu Cheng Ran furiously blamed his assistant for not preventing his father from drinking too much. At the hospital, Zhao Yan advised him to calm down, reminding him they were in a hospital and that his agitated emotions could harm his father. She also pointed out that his concern for his father was evident, despite his denials.
Later, Jiang Xiaoning received a frantic call from her aunt, who reported that her elderly grandmother, suffering from memory loss, was missing again. Gu Chuan, who was with Jiang Xiaoning, immediately called Xu Cheng Ran, who was still with Zhao Yan. The five of them—Gu Chuan, Jiang Xiaoning, Xu Cheng Ran, Zhao Yan, and Jiang Xiaoning's aunt—launched a search, but found no trace of Grandma.
Back at the house, Jiang Xiaoning's aunt noticed that the photo of Jiang Xiaoning's parents was missing from its frame, leading her to realize that Grandma must have gone to the cemetery. Jiang Xiaoning and Gu Chuan rushed to the cemetery, where they found Grandma. Grandma tearfully explained that she had hidden the photo and written the cemetery address on its back because she was afraid of forgetting her son and daughter-in-law.
Jiang Xiaoning embraced her, assuring her that it was okay and she didn't blame her. Back at home, Grandma mistook Gu Chuan for her son, Guang Da, asking why his wife wasn't with him. Jiang Xiaoning gently corrected her, explaining that Gu Chuan was her boss, and at most, her "uncle master." Grandma then asked who Zhao Yan was, and Jiang Xiaoning playfully said she was "Yan Yan's boyfriend," referring to Xu Cheng Ran.
Zhao Yan quickly retorted that Xu Cheng Ran was not her boyfriend but "more like a baron's foolish son." Jiang Xiaoning's aunt, having prepared a lavish feast, suddenly announced that it was Jiang Xiaoning's birthday and produced a cake, which she hadn't bought in ten years. She urged Jiang Xiaoning to move past the decade-old car accident and embrace her new life, expressing gratitude for her survival. As everyone sang "Happy Birthday," Jiang Xiaoning subtly noticed that Gu Chuan's singing voice sounded both different and strangely familiar to her.
