Jiang Xiaoning, feeling somewhat distracted, wondered if Gu Chuan was avoiding her, but she pulled herself together to discuss a design proposal for Chen Wenwen's exhibition with Su Manlin and others. During the discussion, Jiang Xiaoning struggled to focus on details like creating a one-way mirror on the east-facing side for the night scenery. Later that day, Chen Wenwen called Jiang Xiaoning, apologizing for the interruption, and invited her to lunch to discuss the design proposal.

Amidst repeated thunder claps, Jiang Xiaoning's panic intensified as she huddled in a corner. Gu Chuan carefully ascended to the rooftop and finally spotted a trembling Jiang Xiaoning. A glass door separated them. With determination, Gu Chuan repeatedly crashed into the glass, eventually breaking through the barrier. He reached Jiang Xiaoning, touching her shoulder. As Jiang Xiaoning rested peacefully in the hospital bed, Gu Chuan was consumed by self-reproach. Xu Cheng Ran arrived, bringing a charging device for Gu Chuan, who insisted on staying by Jiang Xiaoning's side. Gu Chuan revealed that for the past decade, he had merely been "staying alive," forced to abandon all his hobbies and even Chen Wenwen for his mechanical heart. He explained his need to constantly control his emotions, unable to laugh freely or drink when sad, or touch anyone when angry, admitting the heart was failing and the pain it caused made every day feel endlessly long, leading him to consider ending it all.
He described Jiang Xiaoning as an "accident" who had disrupted his plans, stating that before her, he never anticipated the next day, but now he looked forward to going to work, seeing her, hearing her talk nonsense, and having her by his side every day. He confessed to being in a "dilemma." Chen Wenwen reminded him that he had pushed her away ten years ago and questioned if he intended to do the same to another girl.
Zhao Yan arrived at the hospital to visit Jiang Xiaoning, much to Xu Cheng Ran's delight. After listening to Zhao Yan's analysis, Jiang Xiaoning concluded that Gu Chuan was someone worth loving and resolved to work harder to close the distance between them, accepting any outcome. Gu Chuan then entered the room, interrupting their conversation. Zhao Yan seized the opportunity to leave, and to her surprise, Xu Cheng Ran did not pester her as he usually did, but instead walked her out gracefully.
Zhao Yan was left looking puzzled in the elevator. Later, Xu Cheng Ran returned to his father’s company and spotted the mysterious person who had attacked him previously. He overheard his father's assistant dealing with the man, who was now identified as Chen Ao by the assistant. The assistant revealed that Director Xu had recently given Chen Ao money as hush money, but he was back demanding more.
Chen Ao claimed that his brother had gone to prison for Director Xu and his associates, asserting that he was entitled to the money. The assistant reluctantly gave him more cash, sternly warning him not to return to the company. For Jiang Xiaoning’s safety, Gu Chuan insisted on driving her home himself, reversing their usual roles.
In the car, Jiang Xiaoning mentioned she had taken a photo of the person who attacked Xu Cheng Ran and was sending it to him. Upon seeing the photo, Gu Chuan immediately recognized him as Chen Yun, the truck driver who had caused his accident years ago, a fact confirmed by comparing the photo to an old newspaper clipping about the "712 vicious hit-and-run offender Chen Yun being sentenced today."
Gu Chuan promptly called Lawyer Huang, asking him to investigate the man's identity, expressing his shock as the truck driver was supposed to have died in prison. He sent the photo to Lawyer Huang for immediate investigation.
