A man talks on the phone, mentioning that once he finishes his sunset photography homework, he will pick up his loved one. He plans for them to meet his parents together, despite the other person not feeling ready or having gifts. He asks she to hold on as he finishes a time-lapse shoot. In a moving car, a little girl, Ning Ning, and her parents are discussing their trip to Grandma's house and the gifts they are bringing.
Suddenly, a large truck appears. The truck driver, who had been focused on their car, pulls the handbrake and rushes forward, crashing into their vehicle and then reverses. Gu Chuan, driving a jeep behind them, witnesses the horrific accident. He immediately stops his car and rushes out to help. Seeing Gu Chuan, the truck driver accelerates again, pushing both Gu Chuan's jeep and the family's car off the road and over a cliff.
When Gu Chuan regains consciousness, he hears Ning Ning's desperate pleas. Trapped and unable to see her parents, who lie unconscious, she cries out for help. Gu Chuan extends his hand to comfort her, but she soon notices his hand growing cold. Her cries for "Big Brother" go unanswered as his consciousness fades, leaving only her helpless voice and the distant wail of sirens echoing across the vast landscape.
Jiang Xiaoning is working at a sweet shop that is on the verge of closing, making it her twenty-seventh job. She laments her bad luck, noting how all her previous employers either failed, faced accidents, or inherited fortunes and left. Her current boss, however, has a conscience and offers her a severance package. As she stands sadly at the counter, a man in a black suit requests a milky toast, the shop's specialty.
Despite Jiang Xiaoning explaining that all items are free due to the closure, he insists on paying, leaving a large sum, and quickly departs. Jiang Xiaoning chases after him, only catching a vague glimpse of his face, but the gesture gives her a small spark of warmth and hope in her otherwise unlucky streak.
At Chuan Design Studios, employees are bustling to finalize the Hao Jing Hua Yuan renovation proposal and demonstration video, which must be presented to Mr. Gu that day. Meanwhile, Gu Chuan is at a cemetery, looking at plots for himself. The salesperson tries to sell him on the prime location and various options, but grows visibly nervous when Gu Chuan reveals the plot is for his own use.
The salesperson explains that cemetery plots are for the deceased and require documentation like death certificates, which Gu Chuan calmly states will be ready soon. Gu Chuan also indicates he intends to design his own plot. During this, Xu Cheng Ran, a close friend and investor, calls Gu Chuan, asking him to attend a dinner meeting with Mr. He, the client for the Hi Resorts project, to discuss the Jin An Award.
Gu Chuan, typically averse to social engagements, agrees due to the project's importance for the award. Xu Cheng Ran expresses concern about Gu Chuan's long-standing plan to "depart the world" after winning the three major architectural awards, something he has never abandoned. He also mentions that Su Manlin, Gu Chuan's assistant, is looking for a new assistant for him, a decision Xu Cheng Ran now fully supports, hoping the new hire can help keep an eye on Gu Chuan.
Back home, Jiang Xiaoning is greeted by her aunt and grandma. Despite finding a water bill notice, she tries to maintain an optimistic outlook. Her family's warm and supportive atmosphere helps ease her worries, as they joke about her streak of bad luck and how even the "God of Fortune" seems unable to find their address.
Jiang Xiaoning reassures them that she will find another job soon and promises to buy them anything they want with money from her designated driver side-job. Later, Gu Chuan and Xu Cheng Ran are discussing Gu Chuan's unusual life plan. Xu Cheng Ran, deeply concerned, reiterates his desire for Gu Chuan to abandon his plan to pass away after achieving his architectural goals. As they return to the office, Su Manlin approaches.
Xu Cheng Ran pulls Gu Chuan aside, urgently demanding that Su Manlin find Gu Chuan an assistant, specifically someone who can watch over him twenty-four hours a day to prevent him from enacting his "nonsense plan." Su Manlin is taken aback by the intensity of his request but agrees to prioritize the search, emphasizing its importance regardless of cost. That evening, Xu Cheng Ran, Su Manlin, and Mr. He, the client representative, are at a dinner.
Mr. He makes inappropriate advances toward Su Manlin, despite Xu Cheng Ran's attempts to intervene and drink on her behalf. When Xu Cheng Ran steps out to greet Gu Chuan, who has just arrived, Su Manlin, feeling unwell, heads to the ladies' restroom. Mr. He follows her, attempting to harass her further. Jiang Xiaoning, working her designated driver job, happens to be in the restroom and intervenes, protecting Su Manlin.
She then helps Su Manlin back to their private room, ensures she is safe, and gives her a business card, emphasizing the safety and convenience of a female driver and instructing Su Manlin to call if she needs anything. Su Manlin clutches the card tightly in her hand. As Jiang Xiaoning exits the private room, she is confronted by an angry Mr. He. Undeterred by his verbal threats, Jiang Xiaoning boldly tells him off before turning to leave dazedly.
As she turns, she bumps into Gu Chuan. Gu Chuan finds her strikingly familiar but cannot place her. He and Xu Cheng Ran return to the private room, where Mr. He continues to focus solely on drinking, ignoring business discussions. When Su Manlin appears on the verge of collapse from too much alcohol, Gu Chuan intervenes, ignoring Xu Cheng Ran's desperate pleas not to drink.
As Gu Chuan takes a sip of alcohol, his demeanor changes, his phone screen goes black, and his smartwatch shows a rapidly increasing heart rate. Xu Cheng Ran, aware of Gu Chuan's secret, insists on taking him home to prevent further escalation. However, a defiant Gu Chuan insists on shaking Mr. He's hand. The moment their palms meet, Mr. He is instantly electrocuted and collapses onto the sofa.
Seeing no other choice, Xu Cheng Ran quickly takes the unconscious Mr. He out. Outside, a group of designated drivers waits. Xu Cheng Ran secures a male driver for Mr. He. Jiang Xiaoning then takes Gu Chuan's hand directly to lead him to her car. Gu Chuan is astonished that she feels no shock, her unaffected state fueling his curiosity. He decides to ride with Jiang Xiaoning, taking Su Manlin along.
During the ride, Jiang Xiaoning recognizes Gu Chuan from the sweet shop that morning. Their conversation is interrupted when a large truck passes, causing Jiang Xiaoning to abruptly pull over, her face showing signs of distress. When Gu Chuan questions her, she explains it's a psychological trauma from a car accident. As another truck passes, she instinctively grabs Gu Chuan's shoulder, and her heart rate spikes.
Gu Chuan inadvertently leans against the car's hood, and the car's lights flicker off, then the engine dies. Gu Chuan realizes his condition caused the car to lose power and reassures Jiang Xiaoning it's not her fault. They call a tow truck. Gu Chuan entrusts Su Manlin to Jiang Xiaoning, asking her to ensure Su Manlin gets home safely to Jia Lin Hua Yuan, and then leaves himself. Upon returning home, Gu Chuan enters a mysterious room, where he lies down in a device resembling a charging capsule. Mechanical sounds hum as he seemingly begins to charge.
