An Chenghu, the Lord of Yunwei Villa, plans to convene a martial arts assembly where he demands his son, An Jingling, publicly confess his wrongdoings. Terrified, Jingling begs his father and his older brother, An Jingzhao, for mercy. An Jingzhao attempts to intercede, but a furious An Chenghu orders Jingling to be confined. While imprisoned, An Jingling orchestrates an escape by having a subordinate create a distraction.
Once free, Jingling ambushes and fatally wounds Master Xuanfeng, then sends a messenger to lure An Jingzhao to the scene. An Jingzhao arrives to find Master Xuanfeng dead from a wound consistent with the Profound Earth Sutra, a technique of the Art of Starshift. An Jingling immediately appears and accuses An Jingzhao of the murder. When An Chenghu arrives, he vehemently defends An Jingzhao and exposes An Jingling as the true culprit who has been secretly practicing the forbidden arts.
An Jingling cunningly retaliates by claiming the Art of Starshift manual is in An Jingzhao's room. When the manual is discovered there, An Chenghu collapses from heartbreak and is carried away. An Jingzhao is framed for the murder and sentenced to be whipped at noon before being imprisoned for life on Shihu Mountain. As he is taken away, he denounces his brother as an animal.
As Zhu Maoqing prepares to administer the punishment with the Shenyuan Whip—a powerful weapon capable of destroying a person's internal energy—Bai Zhi intervenes, trying to rescue An Jingzhao. He refuses to flee, unwilling to implicate his villa and believing Chuyue has already left him with nothing to live for. Unexpectedly, Chuyue appears and rushes to his side, refusing to abandon him. To protect her, An Jingzhao shields her with his body and takes the full force of the blow.
Moments later, Donghua and his men arrive to rescue the severely injured An Jingzhao and Chuyue. After their escape, Bai Zhi confirms that the whip has almost entirely depleted An Jingzhao's internal energy, rendering the usual remedy of Spirit Pearl Grass useless. Chuyue suggests they seek out Elder Yueming, believing he may know how to counter the Art of Starshift.
Meanwhile, Bai Zhi has a heartfelt conversation with Chuyue, acknowledging that she and An Jingzhao are truly in love and resolving to step aside and find a reciprocal love of her own. In the power vacuum, An Jingling confronts his ailing father and forces the reluctant An Chenghu to name him the new Young Lord.
Elsewhere, Chuyue confesses to a recovering An Jingzhao, explaining her past coldness was a misguided attempt to protect him from a harmful "backlash" she believed was caused by their inter-world relationship. Elder Yueming then appears, demanding the return of his sword. After An Jingzhao agrees, Chuyue pleads with the elder to cure him. Elder Yueming reveals that only a special orchid from Luofu Mountain can help and agrees to take them to a safe place.
Before leaving, An Jingzhao dispatches his guard, Li Qing, to secretly protect his father and grandmother at the villa. Elder Yueming returns with the vital orchid but explains its extreme coldness requires it to be warmed by body temperature. As internal force would destroy its properties, only Chuyue, who has none, can perform the task. However, the process will infuse her with cold energy, shortening her lifespan to as little as one year.
Chuyue bravely accepts the sacrifice, declaring that An Jingzhao’s life is worth any cost. Shortly after, Chuyue's brother, Li Chuyang, discovers the truth about their world-crossing: it only causes cracks on their respective meteorites, limiting the number of traversals but not causing any physical harm or "backlash." An Jingzhao, now awake, reveals he overheard their conversation. While relieved, he playfully feigns stubbornness, stating his anger over Chuyue's hurtful words will not easily dissipate.
Later, Chuyue learns Elder Yueming's tragic story: his wife, Yunyun, was killed by their sect leader with the Art of Starshift, which is why he hid the technique. He had accidentally traveled to Chuyue's modern world over twenty years ago and has been trying to return to his own world to be near his wife's memory. To thank him, Chuyue cooks spicy hot pot, a dish from her world.
Delighted, the elder rewards her with a bottle of potent medicinal pills. Chuyue then uses playful flattery to coax An Jingzhao into forgiving her, but he remains affectionately stubborn, reminding her he won't easily forget her words before she leaves him to rest.
