While hunting, Li Chuyang encountered an old hunter who praised his archery but noted his inexperience, suggesting a more fruitful hunting ground over a hill. Eager for a challenge, Li Chuyang agreed and left a note for Donghua before departing. Soon after, a frantic Donghua reported to An Jingzhao that Li Chuyang had disappeared near the West Mountain.
An Jingzhao deduced that Li Chuyang had ventured into Zhou Wei’s territory, connecting the disappearance to a birthday invitation he had just received from Zhou Wei. He resolved to go, but Li Chuyue insisted on accompanying him, even threatening Donghua to secure her passage. She argued that An Jingzhao needed her to maintain his public image as a frail man and that she would be an asset. An Jingzhao reluctantly relented.
Upon their arrival at Black Eagle Hall, An Jingzhao, appearing unwell, was greeted by Zhou Wei. Bai Zhi acted possessively towards An Jingzhao but was admonished by Zhou Wei. After An Jingzhao presented birthday gifts, Zhou Wei offered to help him to his seat, but Li Chuyue intervened, playfully stating she would be jealous. Surveying the hall's decor, Li Chuyue spotted Li Chuyang’s bracelet on a display.
Realizing the flowers and wine were laced with a weakening poison, she knew they had to act fast. She secretly instructed Donghua to follow a servant to find Li Chuyang and to signal with a cuckoo call. During a dance performance, Li Chuyue created a diversion by loudly criticizing the dancers and intentionally spilling wine on An Jingzhao.
Bai Zhi offered to help him change, but An Jingzhao insisted his messy state was indecent and, declining other offers of help, left with Li Chuyue to change clothes. While searching a restricted area, An Jingzhao and Li Chuyue were nearly discovered by a guard. They feigned an intimate moment to distract him, allowing An Jingzhao to subdue him. They found Li Chuyang, who explained he had tricked a guard into wearing his bracelet, knowing Li Chuyue would recognize it.
As they escaped, they were ambushed by assassins. Donghua arrived to cover their retreat, urging the others to flee. Bai Zhi attempted to aid An Jingzhao, but Zhou Wei stopped her, claiming Li Chuyue was her true rival. When Bai Zhi lunged at Li Chuyue, An Jingzhao deflected the attack and warned her away before escaping in a carriage with his wife. After their escape, Li Chuyang apologized for being misled.
An Jingzhao confirmed his escape plan had worked but suspected Zhou Wei had other schemes. He then revealed he knew the banquet wine was poisoned, which is why he never drank it, and praised Li Chuyue's quick thinking. With a thunderstorm approaching, An Jingzhao insisted Li Chuyue and her brother return home, explaining that she was now known as his weakness and her presence would put them all in danger.
He playfully referenced their feigned intimacy at the hall, causing a flustered Li Chuyue to warn him not to cross a line before they were married. He reassured her, explaining he was staying behind to protect her, as Zhou Wei might try to abduct her and he was "too lazy" to stage another rescue. Touched, she called him a gentleman.
At Black Eagle Hall, a furious Zhou Wei ordered An Jingzhao killed by any means, noting that An Jingzhao's captive father, Lord An Chenghu, remained useful leverage. Meanwhile, An Jingzhao's mother declared they must rescue Lord An Chenghu before Zhou Wei could use him against them. In Lord An's room, Zhou Wei claimed a new medicine was causing him to lose control of his inner force during nightmares, leading to self-harm.
As "proof," Zhou Wei showed an injury on his own arm and proceeded to lock the Lord’s hands and feet for his "safety." After Zhou Wei left, An Jingzhao, who had been hiding, emerged but found the chains too strong to break. Convinced An Jingzhao was in danger, Li Chuyue brandished a sword and forced Donghua to take her and Li Chuyang to the back mountain, bringing a meteorite for protection.
There, An Jingzhao was confronted by masked guards led by his former subordinate, Li Qing, who had orders from Zhou Wei to capture him dead or alive. An Jingzhao accused Li Qing of betrayal, but Li Qing replied that a wise man submits to circumstances. As Li Chuyue’s group arrived, An Jingzhao was cornered at a cliff edge and shot by Li Qing, causing him to fall.
Below the cliff, a relieved Li Chuyang credited An Jingzhao with protecting them all during the fall. Seeing An Jingzhao wounded, a crying Li Chuyue reminded him of his promise to marry her and begged him not to die. Testing her, An Jingzhao asked if she truly liked him. She tearfully confessed her long-held affection, and he promised to marry her.
However, once he was sitting up, she playfully claimed she had only said it because she thought he was dying. It was then revealed that the arrow had been stopped by his Gold Silk Soft Armour, though his arm was still bleeding from the impact. Donghua applied medicine as the sky darkened. An Jingzhao admitted he had exaggerated his injury to elicit her confession, and when he asked if her feelings were real, she quietly affirmed they were.
