Love Better Than Immortality Episode 1 Recap
> Love Better Than Immortality Recap
In 2169, humanity has achieved immortality, but love has been reduced to physiological stimulation via a VR helmet. A young woman named Hua Xiaolei rejects this superficial existence and gives up her immortality for a chance at true love, facilitated by the Tianlei System. Before being transported to a new world, she lists her requirements for her "Mr. Right": handsome, faithful, powerful, and doting, in a story full of twists and sweet moments.
The system assigns her the romance theme, "When Will the Spring Flowers and Autumn Moon End?" , and tells her that the first man she sees will be her destiny. Upon waking, Hua Xiaolei sees a handsome man and, remembering the system's rule, joyfully calls him "Darling." The man, Xiao Bai, son of the Wulin Alliance Leader, immediately presses his sword to her neck. Far from being scared, Hua Xiaolei finds the thrilling start appealing.
Xiao Bai is at the Medical Sage's residence seeking an immortality fruit for his father, only to find the Sage murdered and Hua Xiaolei the only one at the scene. One of Xiao Bai's followers, Feng Zhangmen, accuses her of the crime and moves to kill her. Just then, a man in black, Fu Lou, the Master of Chuanqi Valley, throws bamboo leaves to deflect the sword, saving Hua Xiaolei.
Fu Lou, who is also seeking the fruit for his ailing wife, escapes with Xiao Bai in pursuit. Observing Hua Xiaolei's hands, Xiao Bai deduces she is not a martial artist and thus unlikely to be the murderer. Xiao Bai takes her back to Fengming Manor. In the Medical Sage’s belongings, he finds a medical record for a woman named "Chunhua," who was apparently resurrected by the immortality fruit.
Hua Xiaolei assumes this identity, and despite finding the name "rustic," she embraces the amnesia as an "interesting setting" and begins to call herself Chunhua. Meanwhile, a report reaches Shangguan Qiuyue, the lord of the villainous Thousand Moon Cave. His subordinate, Chief Ye, informs him that Hua Xiaolei—who had previously betrayed Qiuyue and died—has been resurrected, lost her memory, and is now with Xiao Bai.
Qiuyue dismisses the immortality fruit as a hoax but is amused that his former subordinate is now with his rival. At Fengming Manor, Chunhua relentlessly flirts with the stoic Xiao Bai, who remains utterly unresponsive. He assigns a handmaiden, Lüxiu, to both protect and monitor her. During dinner, Lüxiu explains that Shangguan Qiuyue is the chief of the evil Thousand Moon Cave and an enemy of the orthodox martial arts world.
Misunderstanding her "Chunhua and Qiuyue" theme, Chunhua briefly wonders if Qiuyue is a powerful relative, but Lüxiu clarifies the deep animosity between them. Lüxiu adds that Qiuyue is rumored to be hideously ugly and kills anyone who sees his true face. Later, Lüxiu takes Chunhua into the mountains to forage. Chunhua feigns exhaustion to get out of walking.
When Lüxiu expresses surprise that she cannot use lightness skill, a basic martial art at Fengming Manor, Chunhua playfully teases her about having feelings for Xiao Bai. Lüxiu denies it, revealing that Xiao Bai has been engaged since childhood to a woman named Hua Xiaolei, who mysteriously died before their wedding. Overjoyed that Xiao Bai is technically single, Chunhua remains blissfully unaware that she is the deceased fiancée. Lüxiu leaves Chunhua to rest, telling her not to wander off.
Chunhua immediately explores a nearby bamboo grove, where she finds a handsome, long-haired man in white relaxing on a rope. Suddenly, a green snake appears on Chunhua and tries to bite her, but the man swiftly saves her, and the snake transforms into a vine. When she offers a reward, he playfully insists that only she can repay him—by marrying him. To fend him off, Chunhua claims to be Xiao Bai's future wife.
Just then, a woman in purple from Thousand Moon Cave arrives and recognizes her. Panicked, Chunhua improvises, declaring herself to be Shangguan Chunhua, the older sister of Shangguan Qiuyue. To her horror, the man in white reveals that he is Shangguan Qiuyue. Feigning amnesia, Chunhua listens as Qiuyue explains that she is indeed his younger sister, Chunhua. He claims she was injured and lost her memory while on a mission to steal a secret manual from Fengming Manor for him.
To prove their connection, he uses a dart to expose a pink, flower-bud-shaped birthmark on her shoulder, the reason for her name. Convinced, Chunhua is left puzzled as to why the real Shangguan Qiuyue is so handsome when he was described as an ugly monster.
