Xiyan Kingdom launched a war against Haoling. General Chishui Fenglong led the troops with valor and had already captured two cities. This news sparked wide public interest and discussion. In the medical clinic, Xiao Yao sensed something unusual in the doctors’ demeanor and returned home to ask her grandfather and Tushan Jing. Her grandfather, however, stopped Tushan Jing from answering and advised Xiao Yao to ask Xiyan Cang Xuan directly for the most accurate information.

Upon learning of the war, Haoling Yi was overwhelmed by memories of her past with Xiyan Cang Xuan, feeling deep sorrow. The King of Haoling gently comforted her, saying that the conflict was between himself and Cang Xuan and had nothing to do with her. He emphasized that Cang Xuan was still her older brother. However, Haoling Yi found it hard to accept.

Through tears, she said that since Cang Xuan had been so heartless, she no longer wished to acknowledge him as her brother. The King of Haoling patiently explained that Cang Xuan was not only his disciple but also the ruler of Xiyan. If he were to let personal feelings override his duty to the nation, that would be unacceptable. Though still heartbroken, Haoling Yi asked why her sister Xiao Yao did not try to stop Cang Xuan.

The King of Haoling did not answer directly but simply allowed her to cry in his arms. —At dinner, Xiao Yao once again questioned Xiyan Cang Xuan about the reasons behind the events. Left with no choice, he revealed everything. Shocked by the truth, Xiao Yao was filled with pain and disappointment. In anger, she threw her cup at Cang Xuan and ran out of the room.

He chased after her, but her grandfather stopped Tushan Jing, who also wanted to give chase, and invited him to play chess instead. Though worried about Xiao Yao, Tushan Jing gradually realized from her grandfather’s words that this was something Xiao Yao and Cang Xuan needed to face on their own. He decided to respect their choice. Xiao Yao slammed the door in anger, shutting Cang Xuan out.

He anxiously explained the past grievances: years ago, her aunt discovered Chi Chen’s conspiracy and cut off her finger to swear an oath, begging the King of Haoling to save their father. But he refused, and Haoling had even participated in the battle that led to the deaths of her father and aunt. Xiao Yao was heartbroken and in unbearable pain. Cang Xuan continued, expressing his inner conflict.

Though filled with resentment toward the King of Haoling, he also understood the helplessness of a ruler torn between duty and emotion. Thus, he decided to attack Haoling, believing that the King of Haoling would understand his decision. Though Xiao Yao came to understand Cang Xuan’s stance, the pain in her heart remained. She accused Cang Xuan of being just like her father and mother—choosing the right thing but ignoring her feelings.

In the end, she demanded that Cang Xuan leave and declared that Xiaoyueding would never welcome him again. Heartbroken, Cang Xuan begged for forgiveness but received no response. The next morning, after standing outside all night, Xiyan Cang Xuan was summoned to court. Although he learned that the war was going well, he ordered the troops to slow their march to provide aid to the Haoling people affected by the rainy season.

This decision reflected the complexity and contradiction within his heart. —Meanwhile, Chenrong Xinyue noticed the wound on Xiyan Cang Xuan’s forehead and questioned her maid about its origin. The maid insisted it was sustained in the study. Though Xinyue remained suspicious, she had no choice but to warn the maid and let her go. Afterward, the maid requested to resign, stating that she knew too many secrets and only death could preserve them.

Cang Xuan, puzzled, asked whether he had mistreated her. She shook her head and confessed that she had fallen in love with him. She feared that staying in the Zijing Palace would cause her to be consumed by desire and jealousy, losing herself. Deeply moved and regretful, Cang Xuan suggested she travel the Great Wilderness and gather news from across the realm. She gladly accepted.

He toasted her farewell, wishing her a safe journey and that she might one day find someone she truly loved. Amid the ongoing war between Xiyan and Haoling, Xiyan held the upper hand. Tushan Jing worried that the Gu poison on Xiang Liu might endanger Xiao Yao, so he left a message urging him to remove it. When they met, Xiang Liu said he could not undo it himself.

On the street, Xiao Yao mistook someone for Xiang Liu and chased after them, only to realize it was the wrong person. Xiang Liu then changed his face several times, displaying many different appearances, astonishing Jiu Yao.
