After a distressing night where Shen Qingyuan, triggered by a power outage, hid under his bed, a concerned Tang Xin joined him. She embraced him, wanting to offer strength but dared not look at his face, fearing he might be crying. Shen Qingyuan, however, took her hand and placed it on his eyes to show her he was tearless. His face was burning as he leaned in and kissed her, asking if she was frightened.
While the sensation was strange to Tang Xin, she did not resist or feel any repulsion. Meanwhile, Du Lingfeng, though actively avoiding Shi Xiaoci, was unsettled. His father's words, "No one knows which will come first, tomorrow or an accident," resonated deeply. His father had relinquished their bet and freed Du Lingfeng from the obligation of inheriting the company, encouraging him to forge his own path.
Determined to live without regrets, Du Lingfeng nonetheless clung to the mistaken belief that Shi Xiaoci's affections were solely for Shen Qingyuan. Waking in Shen Qingyuan's arms with their fingers intertwined, Tang Xin felt a new closeness and kissed his cheek before heading to the hospital canteen for his breakfast. There, she met Dr. Ding and explained the previous night's events.
Tang Xin shared a personal breakthrough: when Shen Qingyuan had grabbed her during his panic attack, she hadn't felt scared. Dr. Ding was pleased, viewing this as a sign of Tang Xin's psychological growth from a "protected" person to a "protector." When Tang Xin asked about forcing Shen Qingyuan to confront his memories, Dr. Ding warned it was risky and could backfire, advising patience and suggesting Shen Qingyuan might heal spontaneously through a similar psychological transformation.
Later, Tang Xin learned from a hospital doctor that Shen Qingyuan was admitted in January 2015 after a car accident in Yongcheng. She realized this was the day of their last date. She tearfully recounted to Dr. Ding how they had gone to the mountains, where Shen Qingyuan promised her a surprise. They were ambushed by two robbers who, finding no cash, held Tang Xin hostage and demanded Shen Qingyuan get money. Frightened, Tang Xin had urged him to go.
He promised to return immediately, but she never saw him again, only learning from the school that he had withdrawn for health reasons. Dr. Ding theorized Shen Qingyuan's PTSD and amnesia might stem from guilt over failing to protect her, or perhaps because he never went for the money at all. Tang Xin vehemently rejected the latter possibility, certain he was on his way to get cash when the accident occurred.
As Shen Qingyuan prepared for rehabilitation, he showed Tang Xin his pocket watch, explaining that although it had stopped, it was the only timepiece he cared about since his accident. Playfully, he then demanded she "repay" him for the 61 days since her confession with morning and goodnight kisses, calculating a total of 122. Amused by his shamelessness, Tang Xin quickly left.
Shortly after, a doctor insisted Shen Qingyuan go to his rehabilitation session alone, believing Tang Xin's presence would hinder his progress. Shi Xiaoci called Tang Xin, distressed that Du Lingfeng was ignoring her. Tang Xin found Du Lingfeng in a secluded spot and confronted him for blocking Shi Xiaoci. He wrongly assumed her calls were about Shen Qingyuan and declared he was cutting ties.
Tang Xin revealed that Shi Xiaoci actually liked him, but Du Lingfeng dismissed it as a ploy for Tang Xin to get rid of a rival for Shen Qingyuan's affection. Before Tang Xin could explain further without betraying Shi Xiaoci's past, she received a distressed call from Shen Qingyuan and rushed back to the hospital. She found him trying to leave to find her, earning a scolding from the medical staff.
Filled with remorse, Tang Xin promised to stay by his side. Shen Qingyuan chided her for leaving without a word and dodging his affections. After she explained she was helping with Du Lingfeng, he decided to intervene. As "punishment" for her violating their "dating protocol," he declared she must attend all his rehab sessions, where he repeatedly demanded kisses for motivation.
During this, a call from Jiang Yitian inadvertently exposed Shen Qingyuan's "kiss-stealing" tactics, which he humorously rebranded as "rightful demands." Shen Qingyuan then summoned Du Lingfeng to the hospital. Annoyed, Du Lingfeng stated he was in no mood to discuss partnerships. Shen Qingyuan insisted he listen to a voice message from Shi Xiaoci, stating that "facing a problem is more manly than escaping."
In the message, Shi Xiaoci confessed her feelings for Du Lingfeng but explained her hesitation: she was unsure if he liked the real her or an idealized version. She described herself as sometimes "mean, aggressive, and unreasonable," with a strong sensitivity to gender equality. She expressed her desire for a partnership based on fairness and mutual respect, not one where she was treated like a "fragile vase," and apologized for her previous actions.
