Go Go Squid! Episode 26 Recap
> Go Go Squid! Recap
Outside the intensive care unit for liver transplants, Zheng Hui eagerly awaited Tong Nian, informing her that the surgery was very successful, thanks to her father. He explained that his mother, being older, would require a longer recovery period of over ten hours more than typical patients. As a gesture of gratitude, Zheng Hui offered to take Tong Nian out to eat. After Tong Nian had left Mi Shaofei's housewarming party, Han Shangyan followed her to the hospital.
Upon seeing Tong Nian, he noticed Zheng Hui, whom he considered a "kid," standing close to her and seemingly about to confess his feelings. A wave of jealousy washed over Han Shangyan, prompting him to physically separate Zheng Hui from Tong Nian. Zheng Hui, having met Han Shangyan before, initially addressed him as "Tong Nian's brother."
Tong Nian quickly clarified that Han Shangyan was not her brother, leading Zheng Hui to mistakenly call him "Tong Nian's Uncle," much to Han Shangyan's annoyance. Despite his irritation, Han Shangyan maintained his composure. When Zheng Hui offered to treat them to dinner, Han Shangyan deliberately ordered a selection of expensive dishes, causing Zheng Hui to swallow hard.
As the food arrived, Tong Nian tried to find an excuse for Han Shangyan to leave, but he was resolute, determined not to leave with a rival present. Left with no other option, Tong Nian encouraged Zheng Hui to return to the hospital to look after his mother. As Zheng Hui departed, Han Shangyan playfully suggested he pay the bill.
Seeing Zheng Hui's anxious and trembling hands, Han Shangyan quickly revealed it was a joke before Zheng Hui could reach for his wallet. Once Zheng Hui left, Tong Nian explained that Zheng Hui was from a single-parent family and described his circumstances as pitiful. Han Shangyan then calmly recounted his own difficult childhood: his parents died early, he was raised by a stepmother who had recently remarried, leaving him and his grandpa as the only remaining family members.
He spoke of his struggles after returning to China ten years prior, living in a basement with Wang Hao and founding a club, only to see it dissolve before they could achieve their dreams. He questioned if his own life wasn't equally, if not more, pitiful. Seeing Tong Nian's growing sympathy, Han Shangyan inwardly praised his own ability to sway her emotions, deeming her adorable and soft-hearted. Tong Nian reassured him, promising her unwavering support for him and K&K.
Later that evening, in her dorm, Tong Nian reminisced about her recent walk with Han Shangyan, where they danced to street music and shared sweet gazes, feeling as though a dream had come true. Meanwhile, Yaya also reflected on her interaction with Mi Shaofei while helping him tidy his new place. Mi Shaofei had asked her to call him "Mi Shaofei" or "Xiaomi," and he later walked her back to her university dormitory.
Both girls, smitten with their respective romantic interests, teased each other and happily took a photo together. Back home, unable to spend time with Tong Nian, Han Shangyan doted on his cat instead. When his grandpa began his usual chattering, Han Shangyan, surprisingly in good spirits, showed unusual affection, offering to buy him new Peking opera CDs and a new phone, asking his grandpa to make a list of anything he desired.
He emphasized their bond, saying that as the last two members of the Han family, they should get along well. He then took his cat to the K&K club. Later, Han Shangyan discussed SP's strategy with 97. SP had promoted Fu Ying, the skilled captain of their second team, to Team One to fill Mi Shaofei's spot. Fu Ying's abilities were comparable to K&K's Shen Zhe, significantly boosting SP's strength as they now aimed to win two medals in competitions.
The next day, Wang Hao decided it would be best for his daughter, Little Ai, to live with her mother, Su Cheng, who could better guide her through her formative years. However, Little Ai, harboring deep misunderstandings and resentment towards Su Cheng, rejected Wang Hao's explanations. She was particularly resentful of her mother, blaming her for the urticaria Little Ai had inherited and even for her own need to use a hearing aid.
Consequently, Little Ai ran away from home again, seeking refuge in Tong Nian's dormitory at Jiaodong University. Both Wang Hao and Han Shangyan learned of Little Ai's whereabouts and rushed to the university. After Tong Nian secured permission from the dorm supervisor for them to enter the postgraduate students' dormitory, Wang Hao went in to talk with Little Ai.
Han Shangyan and Tong Nian waited outside, where Tong Nian casually remarked on her future as a competent mother, to which Han Shangyan brazenly agreed. Initially, Han Shangyan believed Wang Hao, as a former team captain, could resolve the situation. However, Little Ai's furious shouts revealed her deep-seated pain: she felt unwanted by her mother from birth and believed her father hadn't even known of her existence.
She felt her presence had only brought regret to Su Cheng and sorrow to Wang Hao, and that she shouldn't exist at all. When Han Shangyan and Tong Nian entered to comfort her, Little Ai, in a fit of despair, had already smashed her hearing aid. Tong Nian suggested it would be best for Little Ai to stay with her for a few days to calm down, and Wang Hao agreed to return after repairing the hearing aid.
Outside the dormitory, Wang Hao confided in Han Shangyan, expressing his vulnerability and deep love for his daughter. This conversation gave Han Shangyan, who had no personal experience with marriage or parenthood, a new perspective on Wang Hao. Wang Hao admitted to many regrets in his life but insisted he never regretted having Little Ai. Suspecting Little Ai had a backup hearing aid, Han Shangyan devised a plan.
He instructed Tong Nian to lure Little Ai downstairs, then wrote a message on his phone explaining that he was an old friend of her parents and wished to discuss their story. He promised to take her to get a new hearing aid if she would listen. As he had guessed, when he asked about a backup, Little Ai admitted she had one in her backpack. Tong Nian then went to retrieve it while Han Shangyan prepared to talk with Little Ai.
