Qi Mingyue, her mother Jin Yuxiang, Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and He Ziqiu have dinner together. During the meal, Jin Yuxiang, who admires Ling Xiao's academic excellence, expresses her desire for Qi Mingyue to become a lawyer, a path Qi Mingyue is reluctant to take. Li Jianjian, who teaches herself wood carving from online videos, describes her unique learning method, which Jin Yuxiang finds remarkable. Li Jianjian appreciates Li Haichao's tolerant parenting style, contrasting it with Jin Yuxiang's controlling nature.
Jin Yuxiang also notices Qi Mingyue's developing feelings for He Ziqiu, urging her to focus on her studies and deny her romantic interest. Later, Zhao Huaguang, He Ziqiu's biological father, attempts to forge a relationship with his son by sending gifts and Western food to He Ziqiu's classmates at school. This act inadvertently reveals to He Ziqiu's classmates that Li Haichao is not his biological father, with some classmates praising Zhao Huaguang's wealth.
Furious, He Ziqiu retrieves all the gifts, confronts Zhao Huaguang, throws them back at him, and vehemently tells him to stop bothering him, stating he does not want to owe him anything or have him bribe his friends. Zhuang Bei, learning of the incident, advises He Ziqiu to inform Li Haichao about Zhao Huaguang to prepare him. Meanwhile, Li Jianjian experiences a painful toothache and must undergo a tooth extraction.
She is terrified of the dentist, treating the appointment like an execution and making excuses to delay. Ling Xiao accompanies her to the dental clinic, constantly comforting her and tightly holding her hand throughout the procedure. After the extraction, a still-scared Li Jianjian expresses a wish for Ling Xiao to become a dentist in the future. Qi Mingyue, having witnessed He Ziqiu's encounter with Zhao Huaguang, later visits Li Jianjian's home (either to deliver textbooks or just to play).
She asks Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao about He Ziqiu's situation, only to discover they are unaware. Qi Mingyue then reveals what she saw. When He Ziqiu returns, Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao question him, prompting He Ziqiu to angrily scold Qi Mingyue for meddling and exposing his secret. Feeling wronged, Qi Mingyue leaves upset. Li Jianjian attempts to follow and console her, but Ling Xiao intervenes, telling Li Jianjian to rest and going to comfort Qi Mingyue himself.
Ling Xiao reassures Qi Mingyue that she did nothing wrong and should not feel guilty because of He Ziqiu's anger. He praises Qi Mingyue and advises her not to immediately doubt herself in similar situations, which helps her to feel better and gain a sense of clarity. Ling Xiao later discusses the matter with He Ziqiu but does not press him further when He Ziqiu insists on not informing Li Haichao about Zhao Huaguang.
However, the next day, Zhao Huaguang seeks out Li Haichao, first at his noodle shop and then visiting his home. Li Haichao, realizing Zhao Huaguang's intent, calls Ling Heping, who works as a police officer, to come home early and lend support. Zhao Huaguang boasts about his excellent financial conditions and argues that since Li Haichao and He Mei were never married, Li Haichao has no legal relationship with He Ziqiu.
He declares his intention to reclaim his son and offers Li Haichao one million yuan as compensation. Infuriated, Li Haichao and Ling Heping mockingly discuss the impracticality of carrying one million yuan, demonstrating their disregard for the money, and unequivocally throw Zhao Huaguang out of the house. As Zhao Huaguang curses and leaves, he encounters He Ziqiu, Li Jianjian, and Ling Xiao returning home from school.
Seeing his biological father still harassing Li Haichao at their home, a furious He Ziqiu throws his schoolbag at Zhao Huaguang. Ling Xiao and Li Jianjian quickly pull He Ziqiu away to prevent further entanglement. Back home, Li Haichao confronts He Ziqiu about concealing Zhao Huaguang's visits. He Ziqiu promptly apologizes.
Li Haichao expresses concern that Zhao Huaguang's interference could affect He Ziqiu's studies, emphasizing that while they have grown, they are not yet adults capable of handling such complex problems. Ling Heping advises that if Zhao Huaguang harasses them again, they should call the police. After dinner, Li Haichao goes to He Ziqiu's room to comfort him.
Li Haichao acknowledges that he understands He Ziqiu's deep-seated feelings of indebtedness to the Li family, which often leads him to tolerate and accommodate Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao. Li Haichao reminds He Ziqiu that after his wife died in childbirth, Li Jianjian always dreamed of having a brother, and He Ziqiu's presence fulfilled that wish for her. Li Haichao reassures He Ziqiu that no matter what happens, he will always be there for him. He Ziqiu's mood improves, and Li Haichao leaves him to his homework.
