Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao sat on the living room sofa, sharing a romantic moment, with Ling Xiao explicitly stating his plans to marry Li Jianjian in the future. Li Jianjian leaned against him, her face filled with anticipation for their future together. Meanwhile, Qi Mingyue's mother, Jin Yuxiang, visited Qi Mingyue's residence to retrieve the household register and unexpectedly discovered that Qi Mingyue had not been studying for the civil servant examination.

Jin Yuxiang furiously called Qi Mingyue, demanding she return home. Tang Can messaged Li Jianjian about Jin Yuxiang's visit. Li Jianjian, saying she was going home to get clothes, returned almost simultaneously with Qi Mingyue. Jin Yuxiang, having reached her limit, severely reprimanded Qi Mingyue, accusing her of verbally agreeing to pursue a civil servant career while secretly neglecting the studies. Seeing that her mother knew the truth, Qi Mingyue decided to be frank.

She confessed that she had no intention of becoming a civil servant and instead wanted to be a journalist in Beijing for two years. Jin Yuxiang was disdainful, arguing that Beijing was teeming with talent and that such a good opportunity would not be given to Qi Mingyue. She believed Qi Mingyue would not advance even if she went to Beijing and returned.

Jin Yuxiang had always criticized Qi Mingyue since childhood, making her lose confidence, but Qi Mingyue was no longer willing to endure it. Jin Yuxiang continued to mock and invalidate Qi Mingyue, believing she was acting for Qi Mingyue's own good and showing care. Qi Mingyue rejected this kind of care, leading to a heated argument. Jin Yuxiang even blamed Li Jianjian and Tang Can for "corrupting" Qi Mingyue, making her a liar and someone who talked back to adults.

Qi Mingyue defended her friends, revealing that she had always been this way, and had secretly done many things Jin Yuxiang would deem "bad." She even admitted to intentionally underperforming on her Gaokao, knowing that if her scores were high enough, Jin Yuxiang would force her to attend the China University of Political Science and Law. Instead, she chose the "most foolish method" to pursue her desired major.

Qi Mingyue declared her determination to become a journalist, go to Beijing, explore the world, and see what she could achieve on her own, vowing never to listen to Jin Yuxiang again. Jin Yuxiang was shocked and enraged by Qi Mingyue's words and stormed out. Li Jianjian followed Jin Yuxiang, who asked if Li Jianjian had known about Qi Mingyue's intentional omission of answers on her exam sheet. Li Jianjian denied it, stating she had just learned the truth.

Jin Yuxiang was deeply disappointed, feeling that her diligent efforts in managing the household had led to this outcome. She asked Li Jianjian to inform Qi Mingyue that she would no longer buy her a house and would not support her move to Beijing.

After Li Jianjian conveyed the message, Qi Mingyue calmly took out her computer from her bag and sent a pre-written application report to her leader, who had already agreed to take her on first if she applied. Qi Mingyue then asked Li Jianjian and Tang Can to keep her room for her, assuring them she would continue to pay rent on time.

That evening, Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and Zhuang Bei enjoyed BBQ and watched a game at Ling Xiao's home. Li Jianjian encouraged Zhuang Bei to be more proactive with Qi Mingyue, but Zhuang Bei stated that matter was "over" and he was only there for the game. Soon after, Tang Can arrived to join them for BBQ. Upon seeing Zhuang Bei, she echoed Li Jianjian's advice, adding that Qi Mingyue tends to resist people she likes internally.

Zhuang Bei appeared somewhat helpless. He Ziqiu, who was also present, joked that Tang Can was treating everyone as females due to her uninhibited eating. After the game, Zhuang Bei found a dejected Tang Can downstairs, who was upset by Jin Yuxiang's disapproval of her. Tang Can vented her frustrations and began to cry, lamenting her situation and her years of unsuccessful attempts to become a female lead. Zhuang Bei sat beside her, trying to comfort and cheer her up.

Separately, Li Jianjian received a video from Xiaozhu, a shop clerk. Upon opening it, she saw He Mei and her son Dongdong eating noodles with Li Haichao at the noodle shop. Li Haichao showed He Mei He Ziqiu's high school photos. He Mei told Li Haichao that after some thought, she agreed with him that being cared for felt much better than being ignored.

However, she expressed uncertainty about how to treat He Ziqiu well, having been out of contact with him for so many years and unaware of his preferences. Li Haichao mentioned He Ziqiu's fondness for buying things for the family and jokingly recalled how He Ziqiu once wanted to marry Li Jianjian just to be on the same household register as the Li family. Li Jianjian later showed this video to He Ziqiu.

In another development, Chen Ting suddenly decided to return to China permanently and intended to rent an apartment in Ling Xiao's community. Qin Meiyang, unable to dissuade her, immediately called Ling Xiao to ask him to return. Ling Xiao arrived, and Chen Ting's attitude softened considerably.

She explained that she had discussed it with Ling Xiao's uncle and believed it would be better to settle in China now, as Ling Xiao would otherwise have to travel to Singapore if anything happened to her when she got older. They had also looked at houses, with Chen Ting liking one, and a real estate agent mentioning a better price for a yearly payment.

Qin Meiyang, however, sat nearby with a gloomy expression, opposing her mother's decision to settle in China. Ling Xiao countered that Qin Meiyang was about to enter her senior year of high school, and the significant differences between Chinese and Singaporean curricula would negatively impact her studies. He suggested waiting until Qin Meiyang finished her Gaokao before moving back permanently.

Chen Ting insisted on moving now, using the excuse that she grew up in China and was familiar with the environment, planning a long-term stay. When Ling Xiao failed to persuade Chen Ting, Qin Meiyang threw a tantrum, declaring she would return to Singapore on the weekend anyway. Ling Xiao realized that Chen Ting had planned this return long ago, which explained her recent activities of buying things and meeting friends in Singapore – these were her farewells.

Chen Ting maintained her determination to stay in China, despite Qin Meiyang and Ling Xiao's strong disapproval. Chen Ting reiterated her reasoning about old age and ease of care for Ling Xiao if she resided in China. For Qin Meiyang's studies, Chen Ting countered that modern transportation was highly developed, and Qin Meiyang flying back to Singapore would not take much time.
