Before long, Qi Mingyue and Li Jianjian returned together. Jin Yuxiang asked Qi Mingyue whether she had really been studying. Seeing the situation had reached this point, Qi Mingyue no longer concealed the truth—she told Jin Yuxiang that she never intended to take the civil service exam. She wanted to become a journalist and work in Beijing for two years, that would be enough.

But Jin Yuxiang scoffed at her, saying Beijing was full of talent and wondered why such a good opportunity would ever be given to someone like Qi Mingyue. Since childhood, Jin Yuxiang had constantly belittled Qi Mingyue. Qi Mingyue had always swallowed her anger and tolerated it. Under Jin Yuxiang’s suppression, she lost her confidence. But now, she didn’t want to tolerate it any longer. Jin Yuxiang continued to mock and deny Qi Mingyue.

Qi Mingyue accused Jin Yuxiang of always negating her. Jin Yuxiang insisted everything she did was for Qi Mingyue’s own good—that it was out of care. Qi Mingyue replied that she didn’t need that kind of care. Their argument escalated. Jin Yuxiang even blamed Li Jianjian and Tang Can for leading Qi Mingyue astray, making her a person who lies and talks back to her elders.

Qi Mingyue defended both of them and told Jin Yuxiang that she had always been like this since she was young. Jin Yuxiang wanted a well-behaved daughter, so she secretly did many things behind Jin Yuxiang’s back that Jin would consider "bad." Even failing the college entrance exam was deliberate—because she knew if she scored high enough, Jin Yuxiang would force her to attend a political law university. So she chose the dumbest way to pursue her desired major.

She told Jin Yuxiang that she was determined to become a journalist and must go to Beijing. She had to go out and explore the world, to see how far she could go with her own efforts. From now on, she would no longer follow Jin Yuxiang’s words. After hearing this, Jin Yuxiang was both shocked and furious and stormed off. Li Jianjian hurried after her.

Jin Yuxiang asked if she had known all along that Qi Mingyue had intentionally left her answer sheet incomplete. Li Jianjian quickly denied it, saying this was her first time hearing about it. Jin Yuxiang was extremely disappointed in Qi Mingyue. She felt she had devoted herself wholeheartedly to this family only to get this in return.

She told Li Jianjian to pass on a message to Qi Mingyue: she was not buying the apartment anymore, and she wouldn’t care about Qi Mingyue’s plan to go to Beijing either. After sending Jin Yuxiang off, Li Jianjian returned and relayed the message. Upon hearing it, Qi Mingyue took out her laptop and sent in a report she had already prepared to her superior.

Her boss had promised long ago that as long as she submitted the report, she would be the first to be taken along. Qi Mingyue told Li Jianjian and Tang Can to keep her room ready. She would still pay rent on time in the future. That evening, Li Jianjian was eating barbecue and watching a soccer match at Ling Xiao’s place. They chatted about Qi Mingyue. Zhuang Bei happened to be there too.

Li Jianjian encouraged Zhuang Bei to take this opportunity to be more proactive with Qi Mingyue. But Zhuang Bei said that chapter had already closed for him—he was just there for the game. Not long after, Tang Can came to join them for the barbecue. Seeing Zhuang Bei, she said the same thing to him as Li Jianjian did, and even added that Qi Mingyue instinctively resisted people she liked. Zhuang Bei seemed a bit helpless.

After the game, Zhuang Bei bumped into a gloomy Tang Can downstairs. Tang Can was upset because Jin Yuxiang didn’t like her. She vented to Zhuang Bei, and eventually started crying. Seeing her in a bad mood, Zhuang Bei tried all kinds of ways to cheer her up. While Li Jianjian was at the studio, she received a video from Xiao Zhu, a shop assistant.

When she opened it, she saw He Mei had brought Dongdong to the noodle shop to eat with Li Haichao. Li Haichao even showed He Mei a photo of He Ziqiu from high school. He Mei told Li Haichao that after thinking it over, she realized he was right—being cared about felt much better than being ignored.

But she didn’t know how to be good to He Ziqiu, since they hadn’t been in touch for so many years and she didn’t know what he liked anymore. Li Haichao mentioned that He Ziqiu loved buying things for the household. He even joked that back then, He Ziqiu once said he wanted to marry Li Jianjian just so he could be on the same household registry. After receiving the video, Li Jianjian even showed it to He Ziqiu.

Chen Ting suddenly decided to move back to China permanently and even planned to rent an apartment in Ling Xiao’s complex. Qin Meiyang couldn’t talk her out of it, so she called Ling Xiao and asked him to come home. After Ling Xiao returned, Chen Ting’s tone softened a bit.

She said she had discussed it with Ling Xiao’s uncle: if she stayed in Singapore and something happened to her as she got older, Ling Xiao and the others would have to travel all the way to Singapore. So it was better to return and settle down in China now. Ling Xiao pointed out that Qin Meiyang was about to start her final year of high school. The textbooks in China were quite different from Singapore’s.

If they settled down now, what about Qin Meiyang? He suggested waiting until after her college entrance exams. But Chen Ting insisted on moving now. Seeing Ling Xiao couldn’t convince her, Qin Meiyang got upset and said she’d be returning to Singapore over the weekend anyway. Ling Xiao realized Chen Ting had long planned to move back—her recent shopping and friend visits in Singapore were actually farewells.
