After hanging up the phone, Tang Can suddenly took out her clothes from the closet and began packing them to throw away. She told Qi Mingyue and Li Jianjian that she would no longer run the delivery shop or pursue acting. She decided to go interview for a museum guide job the next day. From now on, she wanted a more stable job to take care of herself—considering that as her way of showing filial piety to her parents.
While Li Haichao was taking a break after finishing his work at the shop, Hong Ying came by and said she had learned to make dumplings and wanted him to try them. She was even very enthusiastic, feeding dumplings to him herself. Ling Heping entered and saw this scene, then teased them on purpose. At lunch, when Li Jianjian and the others went back home to eat, Ling Heping animatedly mimicked Hong Ying feeding dumplings to Li Haichao.
Li Jianjian teased him too, but Li Haichao said he and Hong Ying weren’t suitable and that just being friends was fine. Seeing that Li Haichao truly wasn’t interested in Hong Ying, Ling Xiao didn’t joke around anymore. Tang Can went to find Zhuang Bei and told him she had closed her delivery shop. However, she said she’d still finish the last errand his mother had asked her to do—just as a favor to his mom.
But she asked Zhuang Bei to make it clear to his mom that it would be the last time. Zhuang Bei didn’t understand why she suddenly decided to quit, and Tang Can explained her reasons. Before leaving, she even comforted Zhuang Bei, saying that Qi Mingyue hadn’t experienced love before, and although she rejected him, it didn’t mean there was anything wrong with him.
Ling Xiao’s birthday was coming up, and Chen Ting wanted to surprise him, so she returned to China with Qin Meiyang. When Ling Xiao and Li Jianjian got home and saw the two of them at the door, they were both shocked. Qin Meiyang could tell Ling Xiao wasn’t happy to see them—he only lit up when he saw Li Jianjian.
Li Jianjian instinctively removed Ling Xiao’s hand from her shoulder, but Ling Xiao wrapped his arm around her in front of them to show they were together. After sitting in Ling Xiao’s home for a bit, Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang left for the hotel. They said they’d book a restaurant for Ling Xiao’s birthday and invite Li Haichao and Ling Heping to celebrate together.
Ling Heping was especially worried after learning Chen Ting had returned, convinced she didn’t have good intentions. Li Haichao, however, thought Chen Ting might have changed from how she used to be. After Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang left, Ling Xiao couldn’t sleep and even started hallucinating again. Just then, Li Jianjian came over, saying she couldn’t sleep and wanted to sleep with him.
In truth, she guessed that Ling Xiao was in a bad mood because of Chen Ting’s arrival, so she came to comfort him. With Li Jianjian’s comfort, Ling Xiao gradually calmed down. He Mei visited He Lan’s husband in the hospital, then went to a restaurant with He Lan. She asked about He Lan’s recent situation. He Lan lamented that her life wasn’t as fortunate as He Mei’s.
They chatted about the past, and He Lan asked why He Mei hadn’t contacted them all these years. He Mei said she was afraid of being a burden. He Lan guessed that He Mei had remarried and brought up that if He Mei had married Li Haichao back then, everything would’ve been different. Not wanting to discuss it, He Mei changed the subject. After the meal, He Mei gave He Lan a bag of money.
As soon as He Mei left the restaurant, she got a call from one of her employees saying Dongdong had gone missing. The surveillance showed Dongdong running off chasing a dog. Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang went to Ling Xiao’s workplace and even brought gifts for his colleagues. Ling Xiao was in the middle of treating a patient.
Feng Xixi happened to be at the front desk and, upon hearing Chen Ting say she was Ling Xiao’s mother, came forward to greet her. After finishing the appointment, Ling Xiao found out Chen Ting was at the clinic. He was upset and said she should’ve told him beforehand. Chen Ting replied that she had called, but he was busy and didn’t answer. Ling Xiao didn’t want to argue and said he had already arranged to switch shifts with a colleague and would take them out in the afternoon.
