The drama begins when Du Juan discovers a trending Weibo post – Li Jianjian's submission to Treehole – which Zhou Miao immediately shares to his Moments, claiming Li Jianjian is two-timing. He Ziqiu, while eating hotpot, also sees an online article about Li Jianjian's emotional entanglement with her two brothers, as do Zhuang Bei and others, causing the dinner atmosphere to turn tense.
Upon seeing the online article/Weibo post, Li Jianjian is at a loss, while He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao realize that they both like Li Jianjian. Upon returning home, Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu confront Li Jianjian. Their argument quickly escalates.
Ling Xiao contends that because he and Li Jianjian had a childhood engagement, it's natural for them to be in a relationship, and even though Li Jianjian and He Ziqiu grew up together without blood ties, they are like biological siblings. He Ziqiu retorts that Li Haichao raised Ling Xiao like a biological son, making him no different from a biological sibling.
He Ziqiu questions Chen Ting's potential approval of Ling Xiao and Li Jianjian's relationship, but Ling Xiao asserts he only needs the person involved's consent. He Ziqiu, unaware they are already dating, insists Li Jianjian only views them as brothers. Feeling guilty, Li Jianjian stays quiet as Ling Xiao pulls her close, declaring they are already together.
He Ziqiu initially laughs but is devastated when Li Jianjian confirms their relationship by not pushing Ling Xiao away and nodding, struggling to understand why she chose Ling Xiao over him, as they are both her brothers. Li Jianjian feels complicated and down all night, while He Ziqiu lies awake. The next morning, He Ziqiu wakes up early and prepares breakfast as usual, placing it on the table.
Li Jianjian, Qi Mingyue, and Tang Can assume he won't make breakfast and plan to eat out, but find it ready. He Ziqiu's expression is unnatural, and Li Jianjian is awkward. He Ziqiu leaves for work without eating, claiming he isn't angry when Li Jianjian tries to stop him and asks him not to be. As He Ziqiu opens the door, Ling Xiao emerges.
While He Ziqiu's attitude towards Li Jianjian remains normal, he sarcastically addresses Ling Xiao as Li Jianjian's boyfriend, showing strong dislike for him. Tang Can, meanwhile, controls her sadness after Zhuang Bei admits he has someone he likes and leaves; she cries in the bathroom. At the studio, Li Jianjian receives a call from a high school classmate about the Weibo post and quickly denies it, making an excuse to hang up.
Du Juan sympathizes with Li Jianjian, saying she'd also find it hard to choose. Zhou Miao suggests Li Jianjian choose He Ziqiu, claiming he is wealthier. Just then, Du Juan receives notification that the guaranteed authorization fee has arrived, exciting everyone. Li Jianjian, needing money urgently, asks Du Juan to transfer her share. Zhou Miao suggests using some money for promotion, but Li Jianjian warns him that if he brings it up again, she will fire him, silencing him.
Meanwhile, Feng Xixi, having seen the Weibo post and guessed it was Li Jianjian's, gossips to Ling Xiao, finding their story fascinating. Ling Xiao, however, is angry, considering the experience painful, and Feng Xixi regrets her words. Qi Mingyue and Zhuang Bei meet at He Ziqiu's dessert shop for a legal consultation.
They both find it incredible that He Ziqiu has shown no significant shock or resentment after learning Li Jianjian chose Ling Xiao, instead calmly continuing to run his shop. Separately, while Ling Xiao rests, Chen Ting calls him asking for the address of a pineapple tarts shop near his university. Feeling uneasy, Ling Xiao calls Qin Meiyang, who reports that Chen Ting is slightly more normal lately, having hosted friends for dinner and gone shopping.
Ling Xiao is somewhat relieved but warns Qin Meiyang not to anger Chen Ting. Meanwhile, Luo Hong tells He Mei over tea that He Ziqiu does not resent her and encourages He Mei to acknowledge him. He Mei refuses, feeling she doesn't have the right. During their conversation, the kindergarten teacher calls He Mei, informing her that her son, Dongdong, has bitten another child again. He Mei rushes to the kindergarten.
The teacher suggests transferring Dongdong to a special school, stating it would be better for him, and reveals that Dongdong has Autism. He Mei initially believes her son is usually well-behaved unless provoked and is troubled by his intellectual disability. In the evening, Ling Xiao picks up Li Jianjian from work and takes her to her school to see a tree she planted.
Li Jianjian leans against the tree, which has become the school's wishing tree due to its excellent growth. Ling Xiao writes a wish on a piece of paper and sticks it on the tree. As they walk and chat, Li Jianjian asks if Ling Xiao had a girlfriend or close female friends in college; he denies a girlfriend but mentions a good friend who helped him a lot.
Ling Xiao, knowing everything about Li Jianjian's time in school, playfully asks her height. Li Jianjian first says 1. 62 meters, but when Ling Xiao disbelieves her, she admits to 1. 60 meters. Ling Xiao then embraces her and kisses her under the tree. After the kiss, they go to a restaurant to eat noodles. Ling Xiao jokes that Li Jianjian is too short, and kissing her makes his neck tired.
He then proposes that Li Jianjian keep her distance from He Ziqiu in the future, which she agrees to. However, Li Jianjian also suggests they should maintain distance in front of He Ziqiu to avoid upsetting him. Ling Xiao strongly disagrees, scolding her for being a "good person" and overly sympathetic.
He even gets angry, asking if she wants to reconsider, believing she chose him out of pity, and surprisingly plans to buy an engagement ring, which shocks Li Jianjian, who feels their relationship is too new for marriage. Growing increasingly furious, Ling Xiao accuses Li Jianjian of not wanting to be in a relationship and abruptly leaves the restaurant. Li Jianjian, unable to comprehend his sudden anger, chases after him, emphasizing that she likes him and wouldn't have accepted him if she didn't.
